Game Overview
I hope you haven’t grown tired of fishing-themed slot machines because slot developers sure have not gotten tired of making them! Lucky Fishing Megaways by Pragmatic Play doesn’t really add anything new to an already overcrowded genre, but it does feature some reasonably impressive hits on its paytable. The game offers the familiar 117,649 maximum payways, a 96.55% RTP, and a maximum win of 5,000x the current stake.
The feature set offers a few unique elements, such as the fishing boat, a double-wide symbol that can only appear on the top horizontal reel. Whenever the entirety of the boat appears in view, it will transform all of the symbols directly underneath it into full-height stacks of wilds. The scatter symbol can appear at multiple heights, which gives the possibility to hit as many as nine on a single spin. If you’re impatient and don’t want to trigger the main feature organically, then you can take advantage of the bonus buy option, given that it is available in your jurisdiction, of course.
I’m pleased to say that you don’t need to drag yourself up at the crack of dawn to enjoy our free demo slot of Lucky Fishing Megaways! It’s available to play below – any time you please:
Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
I’m honestly not sure what the fascination with fishing has been this year! It’s not just slot machines either – Slingo has got in on the action recently with their Deadliest Catch game, an adaptation of the popular television docu-series. The craze seemed to begin with the Fishin’ Frenzy slot machines; that franchise is still going strong, as seen in our recent review of Fishin’ Frenzy Power Four. Pragmatic Play was one of the first developers to start a competing series with their Big Bass Bonanza games, and things have snowballed to insane levels ever since then! I guess the games must be doing well for PP; otherwise, there would be no reason for them to keep creating new fishing franchises, would there?
Megaways games have a slight issue regarding their paytables, as the huge number of payways forces developers to offer ever-smaller returns. Lucky Fishing Megaways only features a single genuinely high-paying symbol – the Purple Fish – which has a return of 20x the current bet for a full payway of six of a kind. The Yellow Fish pays 5x the bet for all six symbols, whilst the Green and Blue Fish will award 2.5x or 2x, respectively, for a complete payway. After this, you are straight on to the royals, with the Ace valued at 1.5x, the King at 1.25x, a Queen at 1x, the Jack worth 0.9x, with the Ten and Nine completing the section with payouts of 0.8x and 0.6x, respectively.
The wager selection system uses the same three-control setup as other Pragmatic Play machines with bet, coin value, and total bet settings. These options give a good range of control over how much you wish to spend on each round, resulting in minimum/maximum wagers of €0.20 and €100.00 per spin, respectively.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game setup utilises six reels, the first and last of which can divide into seven rows, while the middle four are restricted to just six. The additional horizontal row at the top of the reel set adds the extra row back into the centre reels, creating a maximum total of 117,649 payways per round.
The tumble feature included in Lucky Fishing Megaways means that after every spin, all winning combinations will be removed from the reel set to allow new symbols to fall in from the top of the screen. This system will enable you to win several times from a single base game spin.
Fishing Boat Feature
This double-width symbol only appears on the horizontal row above reels two through five and has no payout attached to it on the paytable. Instead, whenever the fishing boat appears as a full two-position wide symbol, it will trigger the fishing boat feature. This will transform all positions directly underneath the fishing boat into wilds. Just so you know, the fishing boat feature won’t activate if only half of the boat is visible on the top row.
Lucky Fishing Megaways Slot Bonus Features
The scatter symbol is represented by a picture of a treasure chest overflowing with gold and can appear at any height possible on the reel where it lands. This gives the ability to hit many more scatters than would usually be possible. The number of free spins awarded by the scatters is determined by the number of triggering symbols:
- Four Scatters: 10 Free Spins
- Five Scatters: 14 Free Spins
- Six Scatters: 18 Free Spins
- Seven Scatters: 22 Free Spins
- Eight Scatters: 26 Free Spins
- Nine Scatters: 30 Free Spins
Free Spins
Before the bonus round begins, the game will offer you the chance to gamble your free spins for the opportunity to win a longer bonus round. Gambling from 10 to 14 free spins has the lowest odds at 62.81% while gambling from 18 to 22 has the best chance of succeeding at 75.02%. Note that if the triggering combination includes eight or more scatter symbols, the gamble option will not be available.
In this mode, all wins start with a 1x multiplier, increasing by a further 1x each time a winning combination lands on the reels. This multiplier does not reset between free spins, so it can grow extremely large by the time you reach the end of the bonus round.
Hitting three or more scatter symbols whilst the feature is in play will add four free spins to your remaining counter. The fishing boat feature can still activate during free spins.
Bonus Buy
If permitted in your jurisdiction, you can immediately access the free spins round through the bonus buy option. Activating this feature will cost you 100x the current bet.
Pros
- Popular mechanics seen in previous releases.
- High RTP if you are playing with the max value.
Cons
- Low max win for a Megaways
- Clone of a previous game.
Lucky Fishing Megaways Slot Review Final Thoughts
I feel confident that I have played another Pragmatic Play machine that was largely identical to this game, other than the theme used. I believe it was Power of Thor Megaways. Anyway, It’s a fun setup with plenty of potential for big wins, but the 5,000x winnings cap seems extremely low for a Megaways slot with an ascending multiplier. That’s not a problem usually, but it soon becomes one the moment you run into it!
