I don’t know what it is about the name Larry, but it seems to be the go-to name whenever a hapless character is needed in TV, film, or video games! For example, I suspect that most men of a certain age will remember the amazing Leisure Suit Larry computer games – why has that never been made into an online slot, by the way?! Alas, we’ll be getting to know a different Larry today! Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 2 is a quirky fishing-themed online slot from IGT that utilises 40 fixed paylines. I’m sorry to say that the RTP is alarmingly low at just 92.84%, whilst the stated maximum win of 41,666x your bet seems laughably unrealistic as well. I wanted to keep an open mind whilst writing this review, but those statistics sure make for a poor start.
On the plus side, there are quite a few special features to discuss. The game includes several jackpot prizes, which can be won by hitting three or more jackpot symbols on adjacent reels. These aren’t progressive jackpots, but they do pay up to 50,000x coins, translating to 833x the total bet. The third reel has a multiplier feature which can boost the value of your win by 3x or 5x whenever the special multiplier overlay appears as part of a winning combination. There are two sets of bonus scatters on the reels, one for the free spins feature and another for the “buoy bonus”. The latter has three modes, so you’ll need to play this machine for quite a while if you want to see everything it has to offer!

Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 2 Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Fishing-themed slots have become something of a craze this year – our game library is bursting at the seams with them right now. Even if you don’t care much for fishing, you have to give the developers some props for the ridiculous names they have given some of these slots! Have you tried The Rodfather Megaways? Or how about Keepin’ It Reel? This machine has a very different style from other fishing games, which is probably a good thing as I can’t imagine many players would be hugely excited to try yet another Fishin’ Frenzy or Big Bass Bonanza slot.
The paytable is dominated by the two wild symbols, both of which feature the game logo. The yellow variant is the higher paying of the two, awarding 133.33x the current bet for all five symbols compared to 16.66x for the blue variant. There are four “high-paying” regular symbols: the boat and the buoy will each pay you 6.66x your bet for a full payline of five of a kind, whilst the house and lighthouse pay slightly less at 5x for all five symbols. These prizes can be multiplied by 3x or 5x if the winning pay line includes the special multiplier symbol on the third reel. The low-paying section of the paytable consists of six royals with payouts ranging from 1.66x to 2.5x your bet, which seems a little unfair considering that there are only four high-paying symbols!
Selecting your bet is performed using a coin value selector with options ranging from €0.01 to €1.00. This results in minimum/maximum overall wagers of €0.60 and €60.00, respectively. Some players may be disappointed if this is the betting range that casinos opt to use, as even playing at the minimum stake would still require a reasonably sized bankroll.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game of Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 2 uses a 5×4 playfield with 60 fixed paylines. That’s a relatively large number of lines compared to other slot machines that use a reel set of this size, making it much easier to hit a winning payline. All symbols require at least three matching symbols starting from the left to create a winning combination.
Jackpot Feature
During the base game, any symbol can appear with the text “JACKPOT” written on top of it. If three or more of these symbols land on adjacent reels anywhere on the grid, the game will award one of three jackpot prizes:
- Five Jackpot Symbols: 50,000 Coin “Mother Lode” Jackpot
- Four Jackpot Symbols: 10,000 Coin “Full Trap” Jackpot
- Three Jackpot Symbols: 2,500 Coin “Light Trap” Jackpot
Multiplier Feature
A 3x or 5x overlay can appear on top of any regular symbol during the base game and the free spins feature. Unlike the jackpot overlay, the multiplier overlay can only appear on the third reel. The corresponding multiplier will only be applied to payline wins, including the overlaid symbol.
Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 2 Slot Bonus Features
There are two sets of bonus symbols in Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 2, neither of which are scatters. This means that you will need to hit three or more of them on an active payline in order to win a bonus round. When this occurs, the game will show a bonus picker screen allowing you to choose between the Buoy Bonus or Free Spins. A cash prize between 40x and 95x the current bet is also paid each time the bonus picker is displayed.
Buoy Bonus Feature
The buoy bonus begins by offering a choice of locations to go fishing: Brazil, Australia, or Maine. Next, the game will award between two and four buoy picks, each of which will award between two and four lobsters.
Each lobster has a prize payout of between 10x and 575x the current bet, except for the special Golden Lobster. The Golden Lobster awards a secondary feature depending on which location was chosen at the beginning of the feature:
- Australia’s Kangaroo Bonus: Pays between 200x and 800x the coin value.
- Brazil’s Octopus Bonus: Pays between 200x and 1000x the coin value.
- Maine’s Pelican Bonus: Pays between 160x and 625x the coin value.
Lucky Lobster’s Free Spins
If you choose the free spins at the bonus picker screen, the game will award five free spins on an alternative reel set that the paytable claims is much more generous than the one used in the base game. I’m not hugely convinced, to be honest!
On the plus side, you can re-trigger the feature by hitting three bonus symbols on a payline whilst the bonus is active. This seems much easier to do than hitting the bonus in the first place, as I seemed to get at least one re-trigger every time I tried this option. Unfortunately, this part of the game has no jackpot or multiplier overlays.
Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 2 Slot Review Final Thoughts
IGT’s online slots have a different feel to those produced by other top-tier developers, so it’s always fun to give their games a spin. I’m not keen on the non-scatter bonus symbols, and I much prefer the buoy bonus to the free spins, but overall, this is a fun game that makes a nice change from the other fishing-themed slot machines.
