Game Overview
Here’s a relatively straightforward Irish-themed online slot courtesy of Storm Gaming Technology. Titled Lucky Money, this game is filled with all the usual trappings of this style of a slot – harps, leprechauns, you know the stuff, all playing out on 4,096 pay ways with a 96.54% RTP. There’s no mention of a maximum jackpot prize anywhere within the game – theoretically, a win of 32,768x the total bet should be possible with stacked maximum-value symbols, but I’ve found a figure of 10,250x quoted by multiple other sources and am thinking that could well be accurate.
Features are a little bit thin on the ground, unfortunately – there are pots of gold located on all six reels, three of which are required to trigger the free spins, but I couldn’t spot any mention of a benefit to hitting more than three of these triggering scatter symbols. On the plus side, the free spins can continue for a very long time as it’s one of those “infinite” free spin features that only concludes after seven rainbow scatter symbols have landed on the reels across multiple spins. Still, there is a growing number of players who have grown tired of ever-more complex and convoluted online slots, so I’m happy enough to see a game where the majority of the RTP has been reserved for one singular high-paying bonus round.
Are you a fan of the Irish slot genre? This game sure isn’t Rainbow Riches, but is that such a bad thing? Why not check it out for yourself with Lucky Money slot demo – available to play below.
Lucky Money Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
The Irish Slot genre is one of the most popular styles of slot machine on the market nowadays – right up there with fruits and sweets in the upper echelons of slot machine design! I’m sure there were prior examples, but the first game to really break through in this style was Barcrest/IGT’s Rainbow Riches, which was soon followed by a flood of games in the Luck ‘o’ The Irish franchise. The only trouble is, these games haven’t really moved on a whole lot since their inception – we’ve had the usual Megaways upgrades and the like, but Lucky Money could easily be mistaken for any other Irish-themed slot that you remember playing a decade ago at an online casino… and that probably is a bit of a problem.
Casting that small issue aside for a moment, the highest-paying symbols available in this game are the leprechaun which is worth 8x the total bet for a full payway of six of a kind, a fair bit more than the second-placed horseshoe, which is only worth 3x for all six of those symbols. The harp is worth 1.6x for all six symbols, whilst the mug of beer will get you 1.5x and the leprechaun hat a tad more at 2x for a complete payway. As for the low pays, Six aces will return you 1.2x your bet, whilst six kings are worth 1x, six queens 0.8x, and six jacks or tens the lowest of all at 0.6x for a complete payway.
As for the betting range, there are minimum/maximum betting limits of €0.20 and €10.00 per spin on offer. The rather small bet spread makes the small number of intermediate bets available a bit less of a problem, but it’s still a tad frustrating to be arbitrarily limited in how much you are allowed to bet per spin.
Base Game & Modifiers
The regular gameplay works much as you would expect for a straightforward video slot such as this – there are six reels of four rows each, which is how we get the total of 4,096 payways, and you’ll need at least three matching symbols starting from the left-hand side of the screen to score yourself a win. Unfortunately, there aren’t any special base game features or modifiers to discuss, but somehow the game does seem to punch a little above its weight in terms of fun – I certainly had a blast whilst testing it, anyway.
Lucky Money Slot Bonus Features
The main free spin bonus round is triggered when three gold pots land on the reels simultaneously. This starts the “infinite” free spins feature, but as there is no payout for the scatter symbols themselves, it does seem as if there is no benefit to hitting more than three of these trigger symbols, which is a real shame.
Free Spins
The free spins feature doesn’t come with any additional benefits either – a multiplier or modifier or two would have been a much-appreciated addition to this part of the game, and it’s really disappointing that Storm didn’t opt to include anything of that sort here.
As it stands, you get to spin for free until the rainbow scatter meter fills up with the seven symbols necessary to end the feature, and when that occurs, it’s back to paying for your spins, I’m afraid!
Pros
- A good looking Irish themed slot
- Attractive jackpot of over 10,000x the total bet
- The infinite free spin mode can go on for quite a long time
Cons
- Nothing new or unique to add to the established Irish slot formula.
Final Thoughts
This game is about as average as they come – it looks nice, but it’s really just another Irish-themed game at the end of the day. It does seem to pay well though – probably a result of the low number of special features – and that alone is a good enough reason to make it worth a look.
