Lucky Nuggets Megaways Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Lucky Nuggets online slot takes you back to the days of the California gold rush, a time when people would trek the length of the United States to seek fame and fortune in the Sunshine State. It was a dangerous time too, of course; no sooner had you made your fortune, somebody else would come along and try to steal it from you. There are no violent overtones to Blueprint’s slot, however; it’s all smiles here as the friendly miner guy hands you huge wins, free games, and the occasional re-spin.
I was pleased to see that Blueprint have implemented an automatically updating paytable in their Lucky Nuggets slot game, as many Megaways slots opt to leave this feature out for some reason. It’s only a small thing but seeing the numbers on the paytable update to match your current stake makes it far easier to understand how much each combination is worth. The top symbol in Lucky Nuggets is the gold cart, paying 200x your bet for a full pay way of six-of-a-kind. That’s a huge number for a Megaways slot, which makes Lucky Nuggets more exciting to play than many other Megaways games. You also have a shovel and pickaxe symbol which pays 100x for six-of-a-kind, and a lantern that returns 50x. Things go downhill rapidly after these three high-paying symbols, however, and the returns for hitting four and five-of-a-kind are also extremely low for all symbols.
The minimum bet per spin in Lucky Nuggets Megaways is a tiny €0.10, which should please those with smaller bankrolls. At the other end of the spectrum, you have a maximum bet of €10.00, which seems very low especially when you consider that other recent Megaways games allow you to be up to €100.00 or more per spin. Nevertheless, I suspect that €10 will be plenty for most players.
Base Game & Modifiers
Lucky Nuggets Megaways, just like the Fishin’ Frenzy title it is based on, does away with some of the conventions of previous Megaways slots. There is no horizontal row along the top of the screen, for example, and symbols to not explode immediately when they form a winning combination.
The base game does utilize a six-reel setup, however, with each reel dividing into between two and five sections on each individual spin. This gives a maximum of 15,525 pay ways – far less than the 117,649 offered by some other Megaways games, but still a huge number. Personally, I am happy to take the hit on those other 100,000 pay ways for the sake of having bigger wins on the paytable.
Gold Rush Modifier
Keep an eye on the prospector on the left-hand side of the screen as you spin the reels when playing Lucky Nuggets Megaways, as he has one or two tricks up his sleeve that can really help to improve your chances of hitting a big win.
The first of these is the “Gold Rush” modifier, which can trigger randomly on any spin that includes one or more gold nugget symbols. When the Gold Rush mod activates, the prospector will hold all the nugget symbols in place whilst re-spinning the remaining reel positions. If one or more additional nugget symbols land on screen, then this process will repeat until either no nuggets land or the entire reel set is filled.
Big Blast Modifier
The prospector’s other modifier can occur on any spin according to the paytable, although from my experience whilst testing it appeared as if this modifier will only activate at the end of losing spins.
The prospector will throw sticks of dynamite onto the reels in random positions, which will then explode and convert any adjacent symbols into gold nuggets. I won less from this one than the gold rush modifier, however I believe that this one has the highest potential – it’s just a case of getting lucky!
Collection Feature
Notice all of the cash prizes attached to the nugget symbols? When I began to play this game, I couldn’t understand how you were meant to collect these prizes… until I landed a spin with the prospector at the same time as several nuggets! When this occurs, the prospector will collect all the gold nuggets on your behalf, before adding the total prizes to your winnings.
Lucky Nuggets Megaways Slot Free Spins Feature
You need to hit three or more scatters simultaneously to trigger the bonus round in Lucky Nuggets Megaways. The scatter symbols have no payout of their own, unfortunately, but you do receive additional free spins for hitting more than three scatter symbols. Whilst three scatters awards just ten spins, four scatters will give you 15 free games, five will award 20 games, and all six scatters awards a mammoth 25 free games.
The free spins feature has several unique aspects to it that do not occur in the base game. Firstly, you have the upgrade counter along the top of the reels which will fill up each time a prospector symbol lands on the reels. Collect four prospector symbols and you will win ten additional free spins with a 2x multiplier; after another four prospectors, you will collect ten more spins at a 3x multiplier; Finally, make it all the way to twelve prospectors and you will receive fifteen more free spins at a 10x multiplier.
The value of the gold nugget symbols will also increase as you move through each level during the bonus round. When you factor this in with the increasing multiplier, the bonus round becomes exponentially more lucrative as you progress through the stages. It’s an incredibly fun and entertaining bonus round, so it’s a shame Blueprint did not opt to include a bonus buy feature this time around!
Lucky Nuggets Megaways Slot Review Final Thoughts
There isn’t much new or original here – Lucky Nuggets Megaways is very much a clone of Blueprint’s earlier Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways, a title that they have already reskinned and re-released several times in the past.
You must wonder why they would go to the trouble of recreating the game yet again – it would be more understandable if they had a big-name license to attach to it, perhaps, but for this theme? It doesn’t make a great deal of sense to me if I’m honest.
At the same time, you can’t argue with how much fun these games are – I would rather play Lucky Nuggets than many, many other online slots. For that reason alone, it’s really tough not to recommend it.
