Mafia Gold Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
I’m not sure it’s a good thing, but it seems the Mafia and or Cartel are back in fashion. At least, it feels that way for me, seeing as this is the second similarly-themed slot I’ve reviewed in a matter of days. The other was BGaming’s Grand Patron, a 10,000x the stake max win slot with two horizontal reels that trigger modifiers such as wild transformations, re-spins, symbol removals, and win multipliers. I’ll get into the features you can expect on Mafia Gold shortly, but before that, I want to tell you what payouts you can claim from the reels. The Gun Wild symbol, which also substitutes for regular symbols, is the joint best in terms of payouts, awarding 10x the stake for a 5-symbol combination, the same as the Mafia Boss symbol. The Turquoise Gang Member is next returning up to 8x, the Purple Gang Member is worth up to 6x, and the Green and Blue Gangsters both reward up to 5x. As for the lower pays, the Ace and King share a 4x max payout, the Queen and Jack both return up to 3x, and the Ten and Nine can pay up to 2x.

Mafia Gold Base Game & Modifiers
There are 6 reels and 4 rows on the Mafia Gold gaming grid, but only 5 of those reels spin in regular symbols. The sixth is a feature reel, something I’ll tell you more about shortly. As for the paylines, there are 30 in total, and lining up three or more matching symbols across one of those paylines rewards a payout as detailed in the paytable.
Feature Reel
The Feature Reel plays an important role across both game modes, the base game and free spins. It spins alongside the regular reels and delivers multiplier values between 2x and 10x during the base game. When a Gold Mafia symbol lines up with a multiplier, that multiplier applies to all winning combinations on the reels.
Drive By Wilds
Triggered randomly at the start of any spin, the Drive by Wilds feature involves a car driving past the reels with a Mobster hanging out of the window to throw a Molotov Cocktail. It adds up to 11 wild symbols to the reels in random positions.
Mystery Instant Wins
When you just miss out on the free spins bonus by landing two scatter symbols instead of the three you need, there is a chance you’ll receive a Mystery Win of between 5x and 20x the stake.
Mafia Gold Slot Bonus Features
Play’n Go’s Mafia Gold has one main bonus round to trigger, and three scatters landing in the base game will reward you with 10 free spins, while four or five give you 15 or 20, respectively.
Free Spins Feature
During the bonus round, the Feature Reel can contain cash values between 1x and 10x the current stake, which are collected in a safe above the reel. You’re paid what’s in the safe at the end of the free spins bonus.
The Feature Reel can also reveal bullet symbols that fire at gang members whenever the Gold Mafia symbol lines up alongside them. Those Gang Members are displayed above the reels, and each requires 10 bullets to eliminate. Whenever a Gang Member is killed off, you receive an additional 5 free spins, and that symbol is upgraded to the top-paying regular symbol.
You receive 5 free spins in the Cash Hit Feature if all gang members are eliminated. During that feature, the total accumulated in the safe is now added to Safe symbols on the Feature Reel. You win those values anytime the Gold Mafia symbol lines up with them.

Mafia Gold Slot Review Final Thoughts
Play’n Go nailed Mafia Gold in terms of its presentation, and there are plenty of exciting bonus features to look forward to. However, due to its high variance, these features do not trigger nearly as much as you’d like. A good percentage of my spins were dead, and that just led to the experience becoming boring after a while.
