Magawa Vs Mines (Relax Gaming) Slot Demo & Review

When certain slot titles appear, you can often hazard a guess as to what the theme is going to be, and in the case of the Slammer Studios/Relax Gaming release Magawa Vs Mines, only half of that was the case this time around. So, what or who is Magawa? This slot fans would be an African giant pouched rat who worked as a HeroRAT sniffing out land mines in Cambodia. I have to admit I never ever knew this was a thing, and you can even sponsor a rat to carry out such work if you wish. Anyway, back to the game, and Magawa Vs Mines is a 7-reel slot operating on the cluster pays engine, with an RTP of 95.95% and a maximum win of 20,000x.

The majority of Grid slots are packed with features, and in Magawa Vs Mines, we start with cascading reels that remove winning symbols from the reels. Then we have the mines element of the game, which, when activated, turns grid squares into mystery symbols, eventually transforming into a random paytable symbol. Finally, there’s a free games bonus, too, where all Mines are guaranteed to carry a multiplier value, and you have the chance to remove low-value symbols from the paytable.

The adventures of Magawa look to be fairly epic on first viewing, but will this prove to be the case once the reels are spinning? Find out for yourself with unlimited credits in our free play demo version of the slot below.

Magawa Vs Mines slot Relax Gaming
Magawa Vs Mines slot Relax Gaming

Magawa Vs Mines takes place on a super-sized grid of 7×7 with 49 symbols dropping onto the playfield with each spin. Wins are awarded when clusters of five or more matching symbols land in view. Players can opt-in for real-money gameplay starting from a budget-friendly minimum of €0.10 a press and maxing out at €50.

Magawa Wilds

One or more will feature on every spin and substitute for all regular symbols. These will not cascade when part of a winning combo.

Cascading Reels

When winning connections are formed on the reels, all winning symbols are removed and new symbols fall from above for extra chances to win.

Mystery Mines

Triggered via the Rat Run feature or adjacent winning combinations. Mystery Mines reveal mystery symbols in adjacent areas of the grid. During free games, all Mystery Mines contain Multipliers. The Multiplier values are x2, x3, x5, x6, x8 &

Rat Run

Landing a Magawa wild and a mine symbol together will trigger the Rat Run. The Magawa will take the shortest path to the mine to difuse it leaving mystery symbols in its path. These will then transform into the same randomly selected symbol from the paytable. If two rats land at the same time, the mystery symbols will have a value of x2.

Random Mine

Can trigger during the Rat Run or after a random win and will add extra mystery symbols to the reels.

Free Games

Land aa minimum of 3 scatters to trigger 8 free games. During the round all mines contain mystery values.

Ante Bet & Bonus Buy

There are multiple bonus buy options to choose from for instant access to the free spins. An Ante Bet can also be activated, and when on, it will increase the chance of triggering the feature.

Pros

  • Lots of features to trigger.
  • Good sized max win of 20,000x.
  • An original theme.

Cons

  • It would be better if the wilds moved after a cascade.
  • I didn't like how the reels spin in as it feels a bit clunky.

Magawa Vs Wilds Slot Review Final Thoughts

Well, hats off to Slammer Studios for an original theme, and I've certainly learned something from playing Magawa vs Wilds today, that's for sure. However, that's about as good as it got for me, and whilst this is a mammoth grid slot with plenty of features baked in, it failed to get me off the edge of my seat and did little to make we want to return.
