Magic Piggy (Hacksaw Gaming) Slot Demo & Review

Prepare to be enchanted by the magic of pigs! That’s the claim made in the opening paragraph of Hacksaw Gaming’s new Magic Piggy online slot, but I’ve got to be honest – the closest I’ve ever come to pig-based magic is picking up my piggy bank and wondering what dark force had emptied it whilst I wasn’t looking! The game uses a 5×5 layout, which is a tad unusual for a pay line based slot – especially one with such an odd number of paylines (19). The RTP varies between 96.07% and 96.34% depending on whether the bonus bet or bonus buy facilities are used, and the top jackpot is a very reasonable 7,500x the total stake.

The reels are filled with special symbols, including a Magic Hat, Magic Piggy, and stacks of bills worth up to 1,000x the total bet. There are also multiplier coins with values of up to 5x, which can boost the value of the bill stacks for a potential maximum payout of 5,000x during the base game. To reach the top jackpot of 7,500x, you’ll need to make it to the Pig Bonus or Epic Bonus game modes. These are triggered by hitting three or four scatter symbols, respectively and the former feature can even be upgraded to the more generous Epic Bonus by hitting an additional scatter whilst the bonus is in play. As with most Hacksaw games, a bonus buy facility is available with many options at different price points.

Magic Piggy Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

Magic Piggy Slot Paytable
Magic Piggy slot paytable

We’ve reviewed some fun pig-themed games recently – one of my favourites was Snowborn’s Peaky Pigs, a Peaky Blinders-themed slot that replaced the famous Brummie gangsters with their swine alter egos! Relax Gaming’s The Great Pigsby Megaways was a fun little game too, and probably a closer match with this one in terms of its visual styling. Hacksaw has an undeniable talent for creating great artwork, though, and I often find their games to be some of the most graphically appealing on the market. I also particularly appreciate the effort these guys go to with their presentation – every aspect of their games is well detailed in the help pages and paytable, making even complex slots easy to understand.

The wild symbols are especially valuable in Magic Piggy, as these will pay you 30x the total bet for a full payline of five of a kind. The Magic Piggy can sometimes convert into a wild symbol, but you’ll certainly be left disappointed if it doesn’t, as it’s only worth 1x the total bet on its own! The highest-paying regular symbol is the diamond, worth 30x for all five symbols, whilst the plums will pay you 25x whenever five of those appear on a payline. There are three more high-paying symbols represented by a horseshoe, cherries, and a lemon, and these have five of a kind returns of 20x, 15x, and 10x, respectively. As for the low pays, five aces will award you 3x your total bet, whilst the queens and jacks are worth 2x, and the tens and kings are the lowest value of all at 1x each for a five of a kind combination. That’s not a mistake on my part, by the way – the paytable does read exactly like that, although I suspect the jacks and kings may have been accidentally mixed up somewhere along the line!

The betting range starts at €0.10 per spin, and there are plenty of intermediate bets to suit all bankrolls before you reach the top wager of €100.00 per spin. So regardless of your playing budget, there will be something suitable here for you to spin at.

Base Game & Modifiers

Many online slots use a 5×5 reel setup nowadays, but the style is much less common in games that use paylines rather than payways. It’s also been something of an unwritten rule for years now that slots would tend to feature an even number of paylines, even when that often results in one payline not having a mirror opposite. Hacksaw doesn’t care for such unnecessary conventions though, as Magic Piggy uses an odd number of 19 paylines. All winning combinations require at least three matching symbols starting from the leftmost reel to award a prize.

Magic Piggy & Magic Hat

The Magic Piggy is a revealing symbol that can be activated by the magic hat. When this occurs, the piggy will reveal either a wild symbol or a stack of bills. The Magic Piggy works a lot like a typical mystery symbol in other games, except that it will only transform if a magic hat happens to appear on the reels during the same spin.

Bill Stack Symbols

Bill stack scatter symbols are cash prizes based on your current bet. Each bill stack can be worth 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 50, 75, 100, 250, 500, 750, or 1,000x the total bet. When the Magic Piggy reveals bill stack symbols, there is a chance that one stack will transform into a multiplier coin instead. These coins have values of 2x, 3x, 4x, or 5x and will multiply the value of all bill stack symbols currently visible on the reels.

Magic Piggy Slot Bonus Features

Magic Piggy Slot Free Spins Feature

There are two main bonus rounds included in Magic Piggy, dubbed the Pig Bonus and the Epic Bonus. Hitting three scatter symbols will award you the Pig Bonus, whilst you’ll need all four to trigger the Epic Bonus.

Pig Bonus Free Spins

In this mode, the reels feature additional star and super star scatter symbols that allow you to collect piggy points above the reels. The regular stars can add between one and five piggy points to the meter above the reel where they land, whilst the super star will add the same number of piggy points to all five reels instead.

When the magic hat symbol lands during the pig bonus, the piggy points stored above each reel will be converted into Magic Piggy symbols on the reels below. Piggy points are reset after each occurrence of the Magic Hat feature.

If you manage to fill all of the piggy point meters at the same time, a full re-trigger of an additional ten spins will be yours! You can also win four extra free spins by hitting three scatter symbols whilst the feature is in play, whilst hitting four will upgrade the remainder of your feature to the more generous Epic Bonus Free Spins.

Epic Bonus Free Spins

This version of the free spins feature works identically to the previous one, except that the piggy point meters do not reset in between magic hat triggers. Because of this, every magic hat symbol that lands can be extremely valuable, especially towards the end of each bonus round when the meters are largely filled!

Bonus Buy

Hacksaw loves to include a wide range of bonus buy options in their games, and this is also where you will find their trademark Feature Spins as well. The available options in Magic Piggy are as follows:

  • Bonushunt Featurespins: Costs 3x the normal price per spin in return for a 500% increase in the chance of triggering a bonus round.
  • Magical Featurespins: Costs 20x the normal price per spin but guarantees that at least three Magic Piggy and a Magic Hat will land on the next spin.
  • More Magical Featurespins: This option doubles the price of the regular magical featurespins to 40x but guarantees eight Magic Piggy rather than just three.
  • Pig Bonus: This is the three-scatter feature and costs 100x the normal price per spin to purchase.
  • Epic Bonus: Not happy with the basic bonus round? You can purchase the epic version instead if you wish but be prepared to dig deep – you’ll need to pay 200x the normal price per spin for the privileged!

Pros

  • A fun bonus round where cash and wilds can be revealed.
  • Good combination of RTP and max win.

Cons

  • You really need the epic bonus to stand a good chance of hitting something substantial.

Magic Piggy Slot Review Final Thoughts

I really like the bonus round on Magic Piggy, and depending on my setup, you'll often find me screaming dollar signs or wilds at the reels. I can't be the only one, as due to the popularity of Magic Piggy, Hacksaw cloned the game, likely for the Asian market. So, if you want the same great features with a different theme, check out our Tai The Toad slot demo and review.
