Game Overview
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you mixed a popular South East Asian tile game and one of the most magnificent animals on the planet? Me neither, but apparently, game provider Pragmatic Play has, and the answer to the question is that you get an entertaining slot title named Mahjong Panda. Spin with 5 reels in this game and win across 1,024 paylines with a high RTP of 96.48%. Match the tiles up like an expert Mahjong player, and you could win prizes up to 5,000x your bet.
Along with offering players a very charming theme, there are a few features to experience in the slot that can enhance the gameplay. These start with the tumbling reels and multiplier that spring to life when a winning combo has been created. Then we have the gold symbols, with these transforming into wilds when they help to create a win. The game’s main hook, however, is the free spins feature, where a win multiplier of x10 can be applied to any combinations you create.
Can we interest you in finding out more about this pragmatic title? Then how about you read our full game review below, which along with detailed information, also includes a free demo slot of Mahjong Panda that you can practice on across all of your devices.
Mahjong Panda Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
I’ve spent a little time in South East Asia over the years, but I can’t say I’ve ever tried my hand at the tile game Mahjong. It is, of course, extremely popular in that region, and its origin dates back to China in the 19th century, so it’s been around for a while, that’s for sure. What I have played, though, are online slots based upon the game, and provider PG Soft have two of the best versions available on the internet with their titles Mahjong Ways and Mahjong Ways 2, respectively. Due to the massive success of these games, it’s barely surprising that other developers have been keen to create a slot around the same theme, and today we look at Pragmatic Play and their game Mahjong Panda. The setting for this slot takes us into a beautiful looking meadow with falling leaves and seedlings. Along with these expertly designed in-game graphics, there is also an elegant Asian style soundtrack for us to enjoy that accompanies the action.
Over we go to the paytable next, and the symbols are represented by the tiles that you will find in the game of Mahjong. So these are a combination of stones, characters, bamboos, flowers, and honour suits, with the dragon being the top paying symbol at 5x if you match 5 of them successfully over the reels. The game does also come with a wild symbol which is the Panda. This doesn’t have a monetary value when it lands, but it will substitute for all regular symbols.
Partaking in some real money play on Mahjong Panda will cost from as little as €0.20 a spin up to a maximum of €24. There’s good news regarding the return to player percentage, too, with these being set at a very generous rate of 96.48%. Just as a precautionary measure, I would still suggest that you check the game information section first, just in case multiple RTP values have been offered to casino operators for them to use.
Base Game & Modifiers
Set over a reel configuration of 5×4, Mahjong Panda comes with 1,024 fixed paylines. Wins are created over this format when 3 or matching symbols connect on adjacent reels starting from the leftmost reel first. And as you’d expect, the more symbols within that win, the bigger the payout will be.
Tumble Feature & Multiplier
Each spin in the base game begins with a win multiplier of x1 in play, which can be seen at the bottom of the reels. Each time you successfully create a win, the symbols involved in that win will be removed from the reels. The win multiplier will then move to the next value ( up to a maximum of x5 ), with new symbols falling from above to fill the empty spaces left behind. If you create a new winning combo, the process will continue. All cascades will end when you fail to make a new win, with the multiplier also resetting back to the default value.
Gold Symbols
On reels 2, 3, and 4, any symbols in the game can appear as a gold block. If this symbol is involved in a win, it will transform into a wild for the reel tumble that follows.
Mahjong Panda Slot Free Spins Feature
Landing a minimum of 3 Yin and Yang symbols anywhere in view on Mahjong Panda will trigger the main bonus feature and award 12 free spins. At the beginning of this bonus round, you will begin with a win multiplier of x2 in play, and through the reel tumble feature, it’s possible to increase this up to a maximum of x10. Again, the Gold Symbols are active in this feature, and they appear far more regular than they do in the base game. Additional spins can be won by again landing 3 or more scatters, with this then adding 12 extra spins to your current total.
Mahjong Panda Slot Review Final Thoughts
The Mahjong slots that we feature on our site continue to be popular with our visitors, and it’s clear that Pragmatic Play is trying to focus on the Asian market with this slot and give PG Soft a bit of a run for their money. Will they be successful? Time will tell, but in the meantime, try the game out for yourself in the demo above.
