Mahjong Wins Bonus (Pragmatic Play) Slot Demo & Review

Mahjong is a table game of strategy and skill, traditionally played with small painted tiles. It was initially developed in China in the 19th century and has since grown in popularity across the world. In parts of Asia, variants of Mahjong can also be found in casino settings, where punters can hope to turn their prior experience of playing the game into cold, hard cash. Provider Pragmatic Play has now extended that opportunity to online casino players through the slot I’ll be reviewing today. It’s titled Mahjong Wins Bonus, and it’s a high volatility, five-reel, four-row game featuring a potential maximum win of 5,000x and an RTP of 96.48%.

I’d consider myself a bit of a table game connoisseur, having spent much of my youth destroying family members in classics such as Snakes & Ladders, Snap, and Connect Four. Admittedly, I’ve never played Mahjong, but I’m definitely familiar with slots, so that’s half the battle, right? The action takes place on a 5×4 grid across 1,024 pay ways, with wins achieved by matching symbols from left to right that are then removed from the screen by falling reels. There are plenty of game enhancing additions to enjoy, including increasing multipliers that range from x1 to x5, golden symbols that transform into wilds when involved in a winning sequence, and a free spins feature.

Whether you’re a Mahjong ninja or have never even heard of it, we all love a bit of slot action, so fire up the Mahjong Wins Bonus demo slot and see how you rate it. It’s completely free to play below!

Table, board, and card games often transfer across well into slot form, and there are plenty of them out there to enjoy. Provider PG Slot is quite the expert in bringing Asian table games to the reels, with some of their best titles being Win Win Fish Prawn Crab, Mahjong Ways 2, and the slot demo Mahjong 3 game, which remains a popular choice here on our platform. The last two I’ve mentioned feature practically identical gameplay elements to those seen in today’s review but pack a much higher maximum win of 100,000x and raised RTP stats. If you’d prefer something from the board game shelf, Pragmatic’s Snakes and Ladders Snakes Eyes slot could be just what you’re looking for. Its bonus feature sees you travel around the game board, collecting stake multipliers as you go, and if you reach the final square, you’ll be awarded an additional 1,000x prize!

Let’s get back to the Mahjong Wins Bonus slot game and its pays section, where at the top of the paytable, we find the tile with the Red Oriental Writing, which will return 5x your total stake value per way of five symbols. Next, it’s the tile with Green Characters at 4x, the Bordered Tile at 3x, and the tile featuring Red and Blue writing, which pays 2x. The lowest value symbols are the tiles featuring Five Circles and Three Circles, worth 1x, and Five Lines and Two Lines, which will pay 0.5x per winning combination of five.

Last but not least, in this section of the review, we come to the staking options that are available on Mahjong Wins Bonus. These start from a very budget friendly €0.20 a spin, with a good selection of possibilities following before reaching the maximum stake of €240.

Mahjong Wins Bonus Slot Base Game & Modifiers

Mahjong Wins Bonus Slot Base Game
Mahjong Wins Bonus slot base game

Mahjong Wins Bonus uses a five-reel, four-row grid with 1,024 payways. Winning combinations are formed by matching a minimum of three corresponding symbols from left to right, commencing on the leftmost reel. Any symbols involved in a win are then removed from the reels before the next cascade, where additional symbols drop down from the top to offer the opportunity for further wins to take place. Wild symbols will substitute for any other paytable symbol as part of a winning combination.

Multipliers

Above the reels, you will notice four multiplier values displayed: x1, x2, x3, and x5. At the start of any main game spin, this multiplier value is set to x1. Whenever a winning combination occurs, this value will move to the next highest multiplier prior to the next cascade. Once it reaches x5 after the third cascade, it cannot go any higher in the base game, and any further wins within that spin will be multiplied by x5.

Gold Symbols

During any spin, some symbols that land on reels 2-4 may appear in gold. Any of these symbols that are involved in a winning combination shall transform into wild symbols.

Mahjong Wins Bonus Slot Bonus Features

Landing three scatter symbols on the reels during any one spin in the base game will trigger the bonus feature, awarding 12 free spins.

Free Spins Feature

The multiplier values are increased from those seen in the base game during the free spins feature, rising to x2, x4, x6, and x10. The multiplier value resets back to x2 at the end of each spin. The free spins bonus can be fully re-triggered by landing three scatters on the reels during any spin.

Bonus Buy

Those who can enjoy an online casino bonus buy option when playing for real money can trigger the feature instantly on Mahjong Wins Bonus for 60x the bet.

Pros

  • A bonus buy option is available.
  • It would be a reasonably good slot if it were original.

Cons

  • A vastly inferior version of other Mahjong slots on the market.
  • Low maximum win.

Mahjong Wins Bonus Slot Review Final Thoughts

As a standalone effort, this game would be perfectly playable. Unfortunately, it is competing against several other games that are practically the same in gameplay terms but are vastly superior in terms of win potential and RTP. For example, PG Softs Mahjong Ways 2 features the same multiplier and gold symbol aspects and looks and plays identically but has a potential maximum win of 100,000x, twenty times higher, and an RTP of 96.95%, almost half a percentage point higher. So, why would you ever play this Pragmatic title over that? The only thing this version has over many others in the Mahjong category is the bonus buy option, but that just doesn't offer enough weight for me.
