Masters Of Olympus Slot (Microgaming) Slot Demo & Review

You might be surprised by just how many different places there are named Olympus! Greece alone has six different mountains with this name, with at least a dozen more located in other countries such as Cyprus, New Zealand, and the United States. Then there are the towns and villages: Olympos, Greece; Olympos (Lycia), Turkey; and Mount Olympus, Los Angeles, United States, to name but a few; however, I think we can safely assume that it is the Greek Olympus which Snowborn has used as the theme for their new Masters of Olympus online slot! This 1,024 payway machine has four casino-selectable RTP settings ranging between 86.89% and 96.01%, so you’ll want to ensure your chosen casino is running the game at its highest setting to be in with a chance of winning the top jackpot of 20,000x your bet.

Many of the features included in Masters of Olympus are based on the famous gods of antiquity, such as Athena, Ares, Apollo, and Aphrodite. The majority of these can only be won during the bonus round, but the base game does offer Zeus Re-spins that include expanding wilds and a coin collection feature. The bonus round is a three-spin feature (or four-spin if the Spartan Booster mode activates prior to triggering) in the style of Money Train’s popular Money Cart feature. The bonus round is by far the most fun and exciting part of Masters of Olympus, so it’s great to see that Snowborn has added a bonus buy facility which allows you to skip directly to it.

I don’t know about you, but I could sure use a little financial help from the gods right now! So find out if you are in favour with the almighty gods with our free demo slot of Masters of Olympus – available to play below!

The first online slot that I can remember playing based around the ancient city of Olympus was Play’N’Go’s excellent grid slot, Rise of Olympus. The developer followed that up with another hit, Rise of Olympus 100, and Pragmatic Play responded with an Olympus-themed grid slot of their own titled Gates of Olympus. Snowborn’s entry to the category includes many more features than those previous games and offers a much larger prize of 20,000x the total bet. This is also the first time I remember Ares and Aphrodite being included, who make interesting additions to the formula alongside the familiar names of Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon.

I can’t help but feel a little less enthusiastic about the paytable; however, all of the symbols appear in stacks, and there are 1,024 payways, yet the numbers listed below still feel on the small side despite taking these factors into account. Athena is the most valuable symbol on the base game reels, yet she’ll only award 3x the total bet for a full payway of five of a kind. Ares fares even worse with a return of just 2.4x for all five of his symbols, whilst Apollo and Aphrodite share identical payouts of 2x your bet for a complete payway. The four low-paying symbols are represented by playing card suits, with the hearts and spades paying 1.2x the bet and the clubs and diamonds offering 1.1x for a five-of-a-kind winning combination.

The betting range offered by Masters of Olympus is a little smaller than some other top-tier online slots, but the minimum/maximum wagers of €0.10 and €25.00, respectively, should be enough to please the majority of players, especially considering the extremely high volatility level of the machine.

Base Game & Modifiers

Masters Of Olympus Slot Base Game
Masters of Olympus slot base game

The base game of Masters of Olympus utilises a 5×4 playfield with 1,024 payways. Wild symbols appear on all five reels, acting as substitutes for all other regular symbols, and winning combinations require at least three matches starting from the leftmost reel to award a prize.

Zeus Respins

Whenever one or more wild symbols land during a base game spin, there is a chance that the Zeus re-spin feature will randomly trigger. When this occurs, all visible wild symbols will expand to cover their entire reel, and a free re-spin begins.

After each re-spin, the stacked wild symbol will move down the reel by one position. If any further wilds appear during a re-spin, those will expand to cover their reel, and the re-spins will continue. The feature ends when no more wild segments are visible on any reel position.

Coin Collective Feature

This alternative method of triggering the main bonus round can only occur during the Zeus-Respins feature. Coin overlays can appear on top of regular symbols, and collecting three of these throughout a single set of re-spins will trigger the bonus round just as if you had hit three scatter symbols.

Masters Of Olympus Slot Bonus Features

Bonus scatter symbols styled after the Pantheon appear on reels one, three, and five only, and you’ll need to hit all three of these simultaneously to trigger the main bonus round. The bonus round can also be activated via the coin collection feature of the Zeus re-spins – see the previous section for full details.

Spartan Booster Feature

Hitting two scatters and missing the third needed to activate a bonus round is always frustrating, but Snowborn has at least added a consolation prize to this machine in the form of the Spartan Booster feature!

A meter located at the top right of the main reel set tracks your progress towards enabling this bonus-enhancing feature. When the meter is filled, the Spartan Booster will be activated on the next bonus round you trigger.

Olympus Feature

When the main bonus round is activated, the game will take you to a new screen featuring an alternative reel set. In this mode, three spins are added to your starting counter by default, increasing to four if the Spartan Booster feature has been activated previously. Any symbols landing on the reels whilst the feature is active will reset your remaining spin total back to three or four.

Before your first free spin, three or four symbols will be randomly added to the reels to give you a head start, selected from the following options:

  • Silver Shields: Worth between 1x and 9x the total bet.
  • Golden Shields: Worth between 10x and 50x the total bet.
  • Ares Symbol: Multiplies the value of all visible symbols.
  • Apollo Symbol: Adds its value to all other visible symbols.
  • Hades Symbol: Reactivates all Apollo and Ares symbols that landed on previous spins.

Once the feature is active, any of the following special symbols can land and assist you further in your bonus.

  • Poseidon Symbol: Expands the playfield with an additional row. A maximum of two additional rows can be activated during each bonus round.
  • Aphrodite Symbol: Multiplies the value of all visible symbols when it lands and will repeat this action on every subsequent spin.
  • Athena Symbol: Collects the value of all visible symbols and adds them to its starting value, repeating this action on every subsequent spin.
  • Zeus Symbol: Adds its value to all other visible symbols and will repeat this action on every subsequent spin.

Bonus Buy

The bonus buy menu offers three choices of special features.

  • Olympus: 50x bet, starts the main bonus round with three spins.
  • Spartan: 100x bet, starts the main bonus round with four spins.
  • Athena: 250x bet, awards the Spartan feature with a guaranteed Athena symbol added prior to your first spin.

Masters Of Olympus Slot Review Final Thoughts

I was surprised at just how much fun I had testing Masters of Olympus, and the Money Train-style bonus round is especially addictive and enjoyable. Unfortunately, I struggled to win anything particularly impressive, so I’d advise caution when deciding how much to bet when playing this extremely high variance online slot.
