Game Overview
Ah, who doesn’t love a new grid slot?! Not so long ago, Play’N’Go stood head and shoulders above other developers with their fantastic and innovative new grid slots, but things can change quickly in the online casino business. The other software houses learned quickly after games such as Moon Princess, and Rise of Olympus became super-hits, so I’m hoping for great things from the Mayan Multi Mayhem slot game. This machine promises a 95.98% RTP and has a maximum winnings cap of 400,000 coins – I’m not sure why iSoftBet chose to express the cap in coins, but as each spin costs 20 coins, it’s simple to convert this into 20,000x the current bet.
Straight after loading the Mayan Multi Mayhem online slot, the introduction screen is shown, promising to pay out for all groups of five or more adjacent symbols as well as multiplier wilds of up to 50x. There’s also a typical free spin-based bonus round awarded for hitting three or more bonus scatters during the base game. The bonus also includes a multiplier upgrade feature, which significantly increases the chances of scoring a major win.
The slots produced by iSoftBet used to be reserved for a small handful of casinos which only offered the games produced by this single developer, but things have moved on since then – today, you will find iSoftBet’s creations at many of the biggest and best online casinos. If you haven’t tried their games before, then why not try the free demo slot of Mayan Multi Mayhem below?
Mayan Multi Mayhem Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
The Mayan Civilization is one of the longest-lasting societies that have ever been known to exist; the first confirmed documentation of the period has been carbon dated to roughly 2,600BC, and there are thousands of later documents and artefacts which indicate that the Mayan people continued as an established society for thousands of years after this. The Mayan empire only fell when the Spanish arrived in the Americas in the early years of the 16th century, bringing previously unknown viruses and illnesses with them which quickly decimated the local population. The Spanish destroyed many Mayan villages, including many buildings featured in historical documents for several centuries before their arrival. This is clearly an extremely unfortunate situation, as the Mayan people were believed to be far ahead of their time, and there could have been untold knowledge and history that was destroyed before the modern era.
It’s a fascinating story, but you can spend several days researching the Mayan society over on Wikipedia, meaning we can’t possibly discuss it in depth here! So, going back to the Mayan Multi Mayhem video slot, how does it pay?! Heading up the paytable, we have the blue gem, which pays up to 250x your bet for the biggest clusters of 15 or more adjacent symbols, but those kinds of blocks won’t appear very often, even on the large 7×7 grid used here. A block of ten blue gems pays 7.5x the bet, whilst twelve will pay 25x. It’s a similar story all the way down the list – the green gem pays 150x, 15x, or 4x for 15+, 12+, or 10+ respectively, followed by the red gem at 100x, 10x, and 3x, then the cyan at 50x, 5x, and 2.5x.
It’s always good to have a few big hits on the paytable, but the numbers featured in the Mayan Multi Mayhem video slot feel slightly lopsided to me; I can’t help but think the numbers would be better with marginally smaller maximum wins for 15 or more symbols and bigger wins for the smaller groups of winning symbols. Then again, the multiplier wilds can potentially boost the payouts by up to 50x the regular value, which does make a big difference to the returns you receive during play.
Wager selection is performed by changing the value of the “coin” being used for play. The lowest value is a penny, but the game requires that you bet 20 coins per round which result in a minimum bet of €0.20, whilst the maximum coin size is limited to €1.00 for a maximum wager of €20.00 per spin.
Base Game & Modifiers
Grid slots work quite differently from regular online slots, but the chances are you know all about them – these games have been around for years now, after all. Just in case, though, here’s a super-quick refresher; the base game takes place on a 7×7 grid, so 49 possible positions and wins are paid for any group of five or more adjacent symbols. Symbols must be positioned next to each other either horizontally or vertically – diagonally, or corner-to-corner doesn’t cut it, I’m afraid!
Winning combos are immediately removed from the grid, which creates space for more symbols to fall into place from the top of the screen. If these new symbols create further groups, this process will repeat until no more winning clusters of symbols are on the screen.
Mayan Multiplier Mayhem
One or more wilds landing in view will fly from their position up to the Totems above the reels, which creates an opportunity for a multiplier to be triggered. The paytable doesn’t explain if there is a rationale to this or if it is determined randomly, but more than one wild can result in more than one totem, and each multiplier can be worth up to 50x. Multipliers are added together if more than one is triggered for a maximum possible multiplier value of 250x.
Mayan Multi Mayhem Slot Free Spin Feature
Three or more bonus symbols will trigger the free spins feature, which offers a minimum of eight free spins for three triggering symbols. Additional bonus symbols will increase the number of free spins you receive; four bonus symbols mean 10 free spins, whilst five gives 12, six awards 15, and a maximum of seven bonus symbols will give you 20 free spins to play through.
During the free spins feature, you will notice multiplier values listed on either side of the grid; each time a free spin completes, the lowest visible multiplier will be removed from the list. You still need to hit at least one wild symbol for a chance to apply these multipliers to your winnings. However – it does not happen automatically.
You can boost the number of remaining free spins on your counter by hitting additional bonus symbols whilst the free spins feature is in play. Each bonus symbol that lands will add one free spin, and there is no limit to the number of free spins you can play.
Mayan Multi Mayhem Slot Review Final Thoughts
I really enjoy grid slots, but as always with slot machines, it’s the bonus round that determines if a game will become a favourite or end up being forgotten. The Mayan Multi Mayhem bonus round isn’t the best I have seen in a grid slot. Still, it’s hard to argue with the returns I got during testing – I don’t think it is unrealistic to say that we are likely to see at least one maximum jackpot video from this game on YouTube during the year after its release. It isn’t quite up to the standards of Play’N’Go’s best efforts, but don’t let that put you off giving this one a try.
