So, you’ve already played Jili’s Jackpot Fishing online slot and decided it was entirely too plain and boring for your tastes? This time around, there are Starfish, Bomb Crabs, Drill Crabs, a whole host of giant prize fish, and plenty of special weapons to help you in your quest, including torpedos, rail guns, and even Thunderbolts! But beware – Jili has come up with an even more devastating array of boss fish this time around, and you may well need the support of your fellow gun-wielding players to take out these big boys if you are going to collect the real spoils!

Mega Fishing Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
In our review of Jackpot Fishing, we pointed out that the game felt more than a little familiar – that was because Hook’em Up! Fishing Wars had only been released a short time earlier, and the two games were eerily similar to one another. This time around, I feel the same sense of déjà vu, except this time it’s because of Jili’s own release, Jackpot Fishing! This machine is definitely the better looking of the pair, but on my machine, it suffers even worse from the slowdown issues that we previously reported with their last similar title. Whether that will cause you issues is hard to guess, but it is worth bearing in mind as it dramatically affects how playable the game is.
As if the last game didn’t already include a huge enough variety of fish for you to contend with, Mega Fishing has eight regular fish with payouts ranging between 2x and 8x, another five big fish with returns of 10x to 25x, an extended array of golden fish – 40x for the golden goldfish, 45x for the clownfish, 50x for the jellyfish, and 55x for the golden Mantaray. There are also huge variants of many fish – the huge clownfish can pay between 100-125x the total bet, the huge angelfish can pay between 125x-150x the current stake, and there’s 150-175x for the giant pufferfish. Keep your eyes peeled for the bosses too! Jaws has a very wide range of 6x-120x, whilst the giant anglerfish is much more generous at 80x-320x. Finally, the gem turtle can pay either 50x, 60x, or 70x for its regular incarnation or 400x, 480x, or 560x for its golden variety.
These games do not function like regular slots – you pay for every shot you fire, so keep that in mind as you hammer the button, trying to defeat as many fish as possible! You do charge your special weapon as you pay for shots though – a good strategy may be to fill your meter close to the top, then wait for a boss to appear before you enter the free Thunderbolt phase of the game!
Mega Fishing Slot Base Game
When you first open Mega Fishing, you’ll be presented with three “schools” to choose from – these are easy, medium, and hard, and you can easily tell which is which by the prizes on offer in each mode. There are four cannons in the main game, one of which is under your control, whilst other players control the remaining three. If two of you take out a fish together, you’ll share the spoils – that may be good or bad, depending on which of you invested the most in defeating the creature!
Special Fish
There are three special fish to keep an eye out for, and I strongly recommend familiarising yourself with these before beginning to play. The Starfish will create a whirlpool around itself when it dies, with a chance to kill any fish caught in the vortex. The Bomb Crab will throw our three bombs when it dies, and any fish caught in the resulting explosions will meet an early demise. Finally, the Drill Crab drops a drill when it passes away, which will bounce around the screen, defeating fish on your behalf until it explodes in a nuclear explosion, defeating a whole swath of fish in its final moments.
Mega Fishing Slot Bonus Features
There are no special bonus rounds per se in Mega Fishing, but the game does have a few unique aspects to it that are worth discussing here.
Special Weapons
If you are struggling to defeat a particularly tough creature, you can opt to use torpedos, railguns, or thunderbolts to help you in your quest. These cost 6x, 15x, or 25x more per shot, respectively, though, so use them sparingly!
Immortal Boss
When the immortal boss is on the screen, you can continuously attack it for infinite rewards until it decides it has taken enough punishment and leaves the stage!
Free Thunderbolts
Every time you fire a regular shot, you build your energy rating. When your thunderbolt meter is full, you get three minutes of cost-free use of this expensive super weapon! Make your best use of this, as it’s your best chance of hitting a huge win!
Pros
- Unique gameplay – aside from the earlier Jackpot Fishing that is!
- The documentation has been improved since the first game.
- The number of fish has been boosted even further, and the addition of new weapons and the three-minute thunderbolt add new strategic elements to the gameplay.
Cons
- The lag is terrible on my machine, so ensure you have a well-kitted-out computer if you want to play this one.
- Sometimes, another player will steal your booty at the last moment!
- Bigger bets are required to receive the maximum RTP.
Final Thoughts
I didn’t expect Jili to release a sequel to Jackpot Fishing, but I am glad that they have – this game is everything that the first title should have been and renders the original pretty much pointless, in my view. Play this one instead – it’s fantastic fun.
