Mega Heist Slot (Relax Gaming) Slot Demo & Review

Heist stories such as the Oceans movies seem to have gone a little out of fashion recently. It’s probably only a matter of time before another Hatton Garden Safe Deposit burglary or Millennium Dome robbery occurs, though, and when it does, you can be sure it will spark a fresh wave of interest in these types of crimes. Relax Gaming’s new Mega Heist is probably a little early for that party, but its 178 connected pay ways, 15,000x stake jackpot, and 96.50% RTP could well be enough to draw in a crowd regardless.

The feature list begins with the ‘Escape Bonus’, which resembles a riot in prison and sees four robbers trying to escape. During the escape bonus, collecting an additional bonus symbol will set off the Mega Heist, where you’ll do your best to take as much cash as possible from the Gas Station, Nightclub, and Bank. Each of these three locations has an increasingly large jackpot up for grabs, culminating in the 15,000x game-wide jackpot that can only be won at the bank. If the Mega Heist sounds like fun, you’ll probably be pleased to hear that you can purchase the feature directly for 150x the regular price per spin.

Of course, none of us would ever do something like this for real… but it’s nice of Relax to allow us to see what it might be like via this new release! Our free demo slot of Mega Heist is available for you to try below:

Mega Heist Slot Paytable

The last heist-themed slot I can remember testing was Blue Guru’s Leprechaun Heist, an above-average machine that didn’t take itself too seriously. Whilst Mega Heist doesn’t go as far as including Leprechauns in this release, the miniature ‘mii’ style characters definitely give the game a similarly light-hearted feel. Before that, we previously reviewed 4ThePlayer’s 60 Second Heist – another excellent release that took a slightly more serious tone. Relax’s game offers a huge jackpot compared to these older machines, whilst the presentation is also easily up to triple-A slot standards.

At the top of the paytable, you’ll find a solitary law officer who undoubtedly has his work cut out with all these robbers around! He’s worth 20x your bet for a full payway of five of a kind – significantly more than the other high-paying symbols. Three robber characters are included, all of which share equal returns of 6x for a complete payway, whilst the handcuffs, dice, and soap also have matching payouts of 3x for five of each item. The low pays are represented by the four playing card suits, and once again, you’ll find these share equal payouts – this time at 2x for five matching symbols.

The betting range offers minimum/maximum wagers of €0.10 and €50.00, respectively, with plenty more intermediate bets available in between the two extremes.

Base Game & Modifiers

The playfield used in Mega Heist is slightly larger than a traditional video slot – there are still five reels, but each includes four rows rather than the more common three. That’s only a minor change, of course – the real interesting aspect of Relax’s new game is its ‘connected pay ways’ mechanic. To score a win, all your matching symbols need to be connected horizontally or corner-to-corner; a grid of this size normally offers 1,024 payways, but this change dramatically reduces that number to 178.

Escape Bonus

Landing two bonus symbols will cause a riot in the prison where the robbers have been incarcerated! This riot will cause four of these robbers to make an escape attempt – if they can collect a multiplier, then you’ll receive a small cash prize, but of course, the main aim is to collect a scatter symbol which will then trigger the Mega Heist bonus – see below for details.

Mega Heist Slot Bonus Features

Hitting three, four, or five bonus symbols simultaneously will trigger the Mega Heist Bonus, with 10, 15, or 30 robbers included, respectively. As mentioned earlier, the Mega Heist bonus can also be triggered via the escape bonus game.

Mega Heist Feature

The Mega Heist feature has three levels, each with a different potential prize. Level one, the gas station, has a maximum return of 150x the current stake; Level two, the nightclub, ups your possible payout to 1,500x; meanwhile, making your way to the bank is the most lucrative stage of all, with a potential jackpot payout of 15,000x the total bet.

During the Mega Heist feature, your robbers can pick up power-ups to help them grab extra loot on your behalf. These include multipliers which can boost the value of the loot a robber is carrying by up to 10x, additional robbers to aid in your heist, and even a diSGuise that enables a robber to evade detection by the police!

Bonus Buy

The Mega Heist feature sounds like a lot of fun, in my opinion, so I was pleased to see that Relax had included a bonus buy facility – even though I am unable to use it in real money mode as a UK player. For those of you living in other regions, the price to activate this facility is 150x the current bet.

Pros

  • Heists always grab the public’s attention, so make a great backdrop for an online slot!
  • The heist bonus round is unique, interesting and much better than yet another free spins-based feature.
  • A massive potential jackpot of 15,000x the players' stake.

Cons

  • Connected payways setup can sometimes result in confusion as to what symbol patterns should result in a win.
  • The payouts shown on the paytable feel a little small for a game with this configuration – you’ll definitely need some multipliers to roll in for a shot at the big money!

Final Thoughts

Relax Gaming can usually be relied on to produce interesting and fun new online slots, and Mega Heist deserves to be another hit for the developer. However, the bonus round is what makes this one stand out for me – plenty of thought has gone into this one, and it really shows.
