Game Overview

Never mind the luck of the Irish – when you think lucky, from now on, QuickSpin wants us to think of the Three Lucky Swedes! It doesn’t quite sound right, does it? Who knows, maybe it will grow on me. Whilst I eagerly wait for that to happen, let’s dig into the developer’s latest online slot machine, Mine & Melt. The game features an unusual 4×4 reel configuration for a total of 256 payways alongside a 96.09% RTP and a maximum win of 5,500x the player’s stake.

Three aforementioned Lucky Swedes show up as stacked multiplier wild symbols, but they aren’t the only special feature in Mine & Melt! There are two three-spin bonus modes, a regular variant and an enhanced super one, both of which use alternative reel sets packed with SMELTDOWN and COLLECTOR symbols. Both bonus modes are available to purchase via a bonus buy facility, but you’ll need deep pockets for the SUPER option as it comes at a steep cost of 330x the normal price per spin.

So, could the Three Lucky Swedes be about to give the Leprechauns a run for their money? Find out in our free demo slot of Mine & Melt, available to play below!

Mine And Melt Slot Paytable

Here in the real world, mines are treacherous workplaces that you’d probably have to be mad to work at. They are probably a whole lot safer today than they used to be though; see my previous review of Nolimit City’s excellent Dead Canary for a peek at just how grim things used to be. It’s all fun and games in slot machine land though, of course, so here we only talk about the happy-go-lucky side of mining, that is, finding huge gold ingots lying around in riverbeds. But, seriously, how happy do the characters in Money Mines and Diamond Mine Megaways look? Perhaps they had a big slot win before they went to work!

QuickSpin likes to break up its paytable into several parts; the high wins section of Mine & Melt includes just a single symbol – a huge stack of gold bars, with a return of 15x the total bet for a full payway of four of a kind. There are four medium pays; a gold pan and a pickaxe which both share a payout of 5x for all four symbols, and a hat and old-fashioned gas lamp with equal returns of 2.5x for a complete payway. The low pays section is, predictably, the biggest of the bunch, with five symbols ranging between 0.5x for five tens up to 1x for five kings or aces. There’s also a small consolation prize of 2x the total bet whenever two scatter symbols land.

The minimum available bet is just €0.10 per spin, and there’s a good selection of intermediate bets before you bump into the maximum limit of €100.00. I’m always happy to see a developer include an extensive range of bets in their games, as it allows players of all sized bankrolls to take part, and that’s precisely what you get here with Mine and Melt.

Base Game & Modifiers

Mine And Melt Slot Base Game

The main screen of Mine & Melt features an unusual 4×4 reel setup, but it actually worked surprisingly well during my testing of the game. All wins require three or four matching symbols on adjacent reels starting from the left, and all possible paths from left to right are active payways.

Three Lucky Swedes

During the base game, reels two, three, and four can randomly convert into stacked wild symbols. Each of these wild symbols features a different miner character, each of which has a random prize-boosting multiplier of either 2x, 3x or 4x. When more than one wild reel appears simultaneously, the product of their multipliers will be applied to your winnings instead.

Mine And Melt Slot Bonus Features

Landing three bonus scatter symbols during the base game will award the three-spin bonus feature. However, if all four bonus scatters happen to land at the same time, the enhanced super bonus feature will be triggered instead.

Bonus Game & Super Bonus Game

The regular bonus game begins with three lives on your remaining counter, whilst the super variant bumps this up to four. Each spin will use one life, and the bonus game will end when no lives remain. Landing a symbol anywhere on the screen during the bonus game will restore your lives to the original count of three/four.

The only symbols that can land during this part of the game are the SMELTDOWN and COLLECTOR symbols:

  • Collector: The collector symbols have a default value of 2x the total bet, which can be increased by landing smeltdown symbols or via the MERGE feature.
  • Smeltdown: Any time a smeltdown symbol lands on the screen, all visible collector symbols are multiplied by the value shown on the smeltdown symbol. Any future collector symbols will also have the smeltdown multiplier applied to them.

Any time two collector symbols of equal value appear in adjacent positions on the reel set, the game will merge them into a single collector symbol of twice the value. This frees up an additional position which can then be used to catch further collector symbols.

Bonus Buy

If permitted within your country or jurisdiction, a bonus buy menu allows you to purchase the regular and super bonus games. The regular variant costs 60x the normal price per spin, whilst the super mode is much pricier at a whopping 330x the current bet amount. I’m not sure if one additional life is worth such a big premium, and the developer does not provide any details of the RTP for each purchase.

Mine And Melt Slot Review Final Thoughts

I think I suffer from some kind of OCD-type symptoms at times, as something about the neat 4×4 playfield used in Mine & Melt really appeals to me, as do the equilateral reel sets of many grid slots! But, bizarre visually satisfying details aside, this is a fun and well-presented game with an exciting bonus round, marking a great start to the year for QuickSpin.
