Viking themed slots have contributed to some of the most successful online game releases in the last few years, with Blueprint Gaming’s Vikings Unleashed Megaways being one of the more popular titles amongst these. This would typically lead to a barrage of games being produced to milk the theme dry, but that didn’t seem to happen for whatever reason. So with that being said, it was nice to see a Viking game hit my inbox this morning for a review, and that title just happened to be Buck Stakes Entertainment video slot Money Mines. Straight off the bat, the design and graphics are nothing short of superb, as we find ourselves in a colourful crystal lit cave with a real crispness to the images displayed in front of us. The game has a catchy soundtrack too, and I’m not going to lie; the laptop was on full volume for this one.
Right, over to the paytable, which is a little unorthodox to most other online slots you would have played in the past. Each lower value symbol from the paytable will not award you with a cash win in the base game. Instead, they pay you a free spin value ranging from 0.4 spins up to a maximum of 2 spins for a 5 of a kind hit. The premium paying symbols will, however, award you a cash prize, and these come in the form of the mixed 7s, single 7s, double 7s, and triple 7s, with a 5 of a kind win awarding you 3x, 7.5x, 20x, and 37.5x respectively. The self titled wild symbol is the game’s highest value, paying 125x if 5 hit on an active win line. This symbol will also substitute for all other regular in-game symbols.

Base Game & Modifiers
Money Mines online slot is played over a 5×4 reel format with 20 fixed paylines. Want to grab yourself a win or two? Of course, you do. Then match a minimum of 3 symbols on adjacent reels from left to right, and you’ll be awarded the corresponding prize.
Firepots
Located to the left side of the reels, you will see the Firepot Meter. This will award prizes when the Firepot symbols land on the reels in the base game and the bonus feature. Hit 9 of these in view at once, and a very tidy 2,000x bet will be yours.
Golden Scatters
The Gold Scatter symbol can randomly appear on any base game spin. When this symbol is revealed, it will be added to the cart at the bottom of the reels. Once the bonus feature is activated, the cart can add up to 5 free spins to your starting total.
Money Mines Slot Free Spins Feature
You can activate the free spins feature on Money Mines by landing a bonus scatter symbol on reels 2, 3, and 4. Once this set up has been achieved, you will be taken to the prize wheel, where a free spin amount and fixed win multiplier will be awarded. If luck is on your side, then up to spins can be won along with a multiplier of x3. Keep a look out for the bonus symbols again landing during the feature. This will re-trigger the bonus, and more spins will be added to your current total.
Money Mines Slot Review Final Thoughts
There has been a flurry of this style of slot released by several providers who work closely with Microgaming. I recently reviewed a slot titled 9 Bass from developer Oros Gaming if you wanted to look at something similar. I was pretty impressed with Money Mines, although most of that was down to the design and theme of the slot, which I did enjoy. The gameplay granted was slightly different to most slots, with the lower value symbols paying out free spins in the base game, so this does help to keep your cash balance intact for a lot longer.
Besides that, the free spins feature and Firepots are nothing we haven’t seen before. So, to conclude, this is still a slot worth a bit of spinning time for the theme alone, if nothing else, but I predict you’ll tire of this game fairly quickly.
