I’m still relatively new to this developer, but I am already getting the impression that this is a software house that likes to do things differently, which is usually a good thing. Mr Alchemister does not use paylines, payways, or any similarly plain and boring payout mechanics. Instead, the game features a network of pipes, and you’ll need to connect those pipes between two edges of the “reel set” to earn yourself a win. It’s a neat idea and comes with a 95.6% RTP. There’s no indication of what the maximum win might be, but the highest-paying pipe is worth 100x the current bet, and I can’t imagine it is possible to link up more than a couple of them, which gives us a rough idea.
The crazy pipe laying payout mechanic employs 15 different win multipliers ranging between 5x and 100x your bet. Winning any of these prizes requires you to land the six available pipe pieces so that they will connect different sides of the playfield. That can be quite tricky to achieve, so I think it’s a good thing that Lady Luck has implemented a gamble feature allowing you the opportunity to go double or nothing up to four times after any winning round.

I tried searching for a bunch of pipe and plumbing related terms to find other slots to compare this game to, but I didn’t manage to find anything. Even if I had, I’m almost certain that none of the other online slots with a theme related to pipes or plumbing would have anything in common with Mr Alchemister. Quite simply, this game is as unique as they come; the pipe-based payout mechanics are unlike anything I have seen before.
The downside of this unique and innovative payout system is that it does result in a large number of dead spins. The bet you place for each round is multiplied by three, and you may notice that the text “Bet 1, Bet 2, Bet 3” appears above the reel set. This is no coincidence, of course – this text is positioned above the centre three columns of the reel set, and your winnings will be multiplied by the number of these columns that a complete pipe comes into contact with. Let’s say you have a pipe that reaches from the left of the screen to the right – this will cross all three of the bet columns, meaning that your potential winnings will be multiplied by three. If your complete pipe crosses only one of the columns, your winnings will only be multiplied by 1x.
The minimum bet on Mr Alchemister is one penny, which is multiplied by three to give your total stake. This gives a real minimum stake of €0.03 per round, whilst the maximum permitted bet is €30.00, with €10.00 being bet on each of the three centre columns.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base gameplay of Mr Alchemister is unlike any other online slot you have played before! Each time you hit the spin button, the 5×5 playfield will be re-arranged with a new set of pipe pieces. There are six different pieces; two straight sections going horizontally and vertically and four more corner pieces arranged top to left, bottom to right, right to bottom, and left to top. If these pipe pieces land in the right way, you will form paths from one of the four edges of the reel set to one or more others.
Pipe Connection
A winning combination is formed when a pipe connects one edge of the grid to another. This includes all four edges: top, bottom, left, and right; but the amount you will win is increased if the pipe crosses more than one of the bet columns, which are located on the centre three columns.

This has to be one of the craziest online slots I have ever played, but this is a great thing! I love the idea behind Mr Alchemister, and my only reservation is that it does seem to deliver an awfully large number of dead spins between wins. On the other hand, when you do win, the size of your winnings is typically much bigger than the tiny wins that keep you going on an average online slot.
If you are happy to trade all those tiny wins for a smaller number of bigger ones, then you shouldn’t have any issues with Mr Alchemister… and let’s be honest; you have to try this game just because it is SO different and unique! You’ll have a bunch of fun, I promise!
