The Mystery Joker online slot will usually be hidden in the “classic slots” tab at most casinos rather than “video slots”, although the feature set on offer here definitely makes it a video slot in my view. The RTP is 96.98% – an excellent figure, although I am a little confused by the maximum win – it is stated as “602,000 coins”, yet as far as I can see even a full screen of the maximum symbol will only pay 250x your stake.
Most three-reel games don’t have too many features – in fact, many have none at all. I’ve never understood why people enjoy games like “Double Diamond” so much where almost every spin is a dead one. Mystery Joker Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Play’N’Go has made a whole bunch of “Joker” games in this style including Ice Joker, Inferno Joker, and Love Joker. All these games represent evolutionary steps from older Bar-X and Fruit Machines. Many of us played those games for coppers at some point during a trip to the seaside as a child, though wouldn’t be entertained by those same games today. Fire Joker’s additional features make it a much more exciting and entertaining proposition. As ever for a Play’N’Go slot, the graphics are top-notch however the sound of a win hitting drove me insane almost immediately – these sounds are mostly skipped if you have the fast play option in your jurisdiction. The scatter symbols have no payout of their own – this is pretty standard for Play’N’Go, but disappointing, nonetheless. The top paying symbol is the star, which returns 50x your line bet for a full line of five. This is where I calculated the figure of 250x as being the maximum win for a single spin – a full line of this top paying symbol. The next one down is the bells at 40x, followed by the blackberries at 30x. The mystery win feature occasionally pays out between 1x and 100x your stake at random after any losing spin.
The minimum bet on the demo version of this game is set at €0.50, although in real money mode you are free to bet as low as €0.10 if you wish. Remember that the amounts shown on the paytable only multiply what you bet on the line where the win dropped. Therefore, if you are betting €1.00 per spin, that is €0.20 per line, and 50x €0.20 = €10.00 for a single line of the top symbol.
Base Game & Modifiers
Base gameplay in Mystery Joker online slot is similar to all other three-reelers, but thankfully the fruits do at least always land in a symmetrical grid. I know that in mathematical terms this makes no difference whatsoever, but it always frustrated the hell out of me when I would get a blank spot at the end of a payline!
The reason why the blank spots were probably used in the past was due to the limitations of older, physical slot machines – the reel strips could only be so long, after all. With this limitation removed, there is absolutely no reason to carry this “feature” over to the online realm.
Mystery Win Feature
This is the feature after which the game get’s its name. The disappointment of a losing spin is occasionally quickly tempered by the joker throwing up to 100x your stake back at you for no reason other than he is feeling generous. Good for him, eh?
Mystery Joker Slot Free Spin Feature
I also mentioned earlier that Play’N’Go had done us the service of adding a free spins round into this three-reel game – a rarity in classic-style slots. You’ll need three joker scatter symbols to trigger the feature, after which you will be awarded with ten free spins.
You can re-trigger the free spins up to a maximum of four times for a total of 50 free spins if it is your lucky day – during testing, I only hit a single retrigger on one occasion. My sample size is far too small to be definitive, at only around 10 bonus rounds, but this gives at least a small suggestion as to how common the retriggers are.
Mystery Joker Slot Review Final Thoughts
Despite having my own seaside nostalgia about three-reel Bar-X slot machines, the online classic slots have never really appealed to me. I think these games must be designed for older player – no prejudice intended – because it is simply much more fun to play a newer game with more features, bigger max winnings, and everything else you get with a modern video slot. The RTP is excellent at least, however, at close to 97%.
Play’N’Go did release a sequel to this game in the shape of Mystery Joker 6000 not too long ago, so if classic slots are not your thing, you could give that one a try instead. Happy spinning!
