Mystical Spirits Slot (PG Soft) Slot Demo & Review

Pocket Games Soft (PG Soft) has been pumping out the slots ten-a-penny recently, and Mystical Spirits sits somewhere firmly in the middle of the pack with a 5,000x maximum jackpot and 96.75% RTP. The developer classes this game as ‘Collapse / European’ style, which is the first time I’ve heard a cascading reel slot described this way! In addition, the game uses Megaways-style varying row heights, meaning that the game can sometimes have as few as 400 payways – or as many as 15,625.

Three coloured multipliers are displayed underneath the playfield at all times and will reset to 1x at the start of each spin. When winning combinations occur, the number of included symbols will be added to the corresponding coloured multiplier value, and the product of all three multipliers will then be applied to your total win at the end of each game round. This makes even the base game an exciting proposition, but that’s not all – hitting four scatter symbols simultaneously will award 12 free spins, with two extra spins added if any additional scatters are present on the triggering spin.

Mystical Spirits Slot Paytable

The last PG Soft game I reviewed was titled Fortune Rabbit, and I specifically remember discussing spirit animals in that review! That seems like an odd coincidence, as perhaps this is the review where I should have mused on that particular issue! Spirits pop up all the time in online slots though – Pragmatic Play’s Firebird Spirits is a personal favourite of mine if you want to check that out too. The ‘European’ or cascading reel design of Mystical Spirits is also very common nowadays – we have a huge selection of such slots in this category of our review library.

Something which frequently bugs me about PG Soft’s games is the way that the developer chooses to present their paytables – the numbers shown are in coins, so I find it easiest to keep my coin size set to a penny and use the bet level selector when I feel like changing things up a bit. In the case of Mystical Spirits, the symbols have been divided into three distinct groups; the first features three characters, at least, I think that’s what you would describe a spooky-looking fire face, a blue jelly baby, and a plant with a pair of eyes, anyway! All three of these unusual symbols share equal payouts of 2.5x the total bet for a complete payway of six of a kind, whilst the next group consists of fire, water, and a leaf and pays 1x the total bet for each set of six symbols. The final royal group includes Aces, Kings, and Queens, but these will only bag you 0.2x your current stake for a six-of-a-kind combination.

Choosing how much you wish to bet whilst spinning Mystical Spirits is performed by selecting a coin size – either €0.01, €0.10 or €0.50 – and then choosing a bet level between one and ten. Despite the huge number of pay ways (between 400 and 15,625 per spin), you’ll only need to bet 20 coins per spin – in real money terms, this all equates to minimum/maximum betting limits of €0.20 and €100.00 per spin respectively.

Base Game & Modifiers

Mystical Spirits Slot Base Game
Mystical Spirits slot base game

At first glance, Mystical Spirits looks like a typical six-reel slot machine, albeit one with a heavy Megaways influence. However, look a little deeper under the surface, and it turns out to be a much more interesting proposition. Take the coloured multipliers, for example – these ensure that the base game is every bit as exciting as the bonus round. You’ll still need to hit at least three matching symbols starting from the leftmost reel to score a win in the first place though – a multiplier isn’t much use without something to multiply!

Multiplier Feature

At the start of each spin, the red, green, and blue multipliers are all reset to 1x. All wins are multiplied by the product of these three values at the end of each game round. To increase the value of the multipliers, you’ll need to hit winning combinations of the corresponding coloured symbols – the character symbols described in the previous section are the red multiplier boosters, whilst the elemental glyphs are used to boost the blue multiplier, and the royals will service the greens. If a payway of wild symbols is hit, all three multipliers will be boosted simultaneously.

Mystical Spirits Slot Bonus Features

Mystical Spirits Slot Free Spins Feature

You’ll need to hit four free spin scatter symbols at once to trigger the main bonus round, which guarantees at least 12 free spins. Five or six scatter symbols will increase this to 14 or 16 free spins, respectively.

Free Spins

At the start of every free spin, the three coloured multipliers will be set to 2x, giving you a head start compared to the base game. Better still, the value of these multipliers is held between free spins, and the bonus round can also be re-triggered. With a couple of re-triggers and a little luck with the multipliers, I can see the jackpot cap of 5,000x enforced in this game being relatively easy to run into; whilst that would be a little frustrating, I doubt many of us would complain at receiving 5,000x our stake!

Pros

  • Up to 15,625 payways – not quite as many as a typical Megaways slot, but still more than enough!
  • Coloured multipliers enhance the base game, which makes a nice change from typical slots where you spend most of your time just waiting for the next bonus round.
  • And the bonus round is generous, too!

Cons

  • The jackpot cap of 5,000x is only average and feels a little bit too low for a game with this much potential.
  • As ever, the lack of a desktop interface is a silly omission – no matter what the developer calls themself!

Final Thoughts

I’m a little old for the rave scene nowadays, but I still enjoy seeing the parties in popular culture. Unfortunately, this isn’t a great example of that – it feels a little bit forced, and the symbols and backdrop aren’t especially well drawn. There’s a decent number of features, but none of them is particularly exciting – on the whole, it’s a little better than average – but only just.
