The ‘default’ grid in this game can reach a size of up to 262,144 payways, but even this crazy number can be further multiplied as a consequence of the Nitro Reels! The RTP and max win have not changed since Nitropolis 3, standing at 94% and 50,000x, respectively.
The ‘Nitro Features’ from previous games are back, but this time there are eight of them, including Redrop, Pays Both Ways, Low Symbol Removal, and Nitro Appear features – we’ll share the full list later in the review! Nitro Reels are 1×2 symbols that squeeze in up to 12 standard symbols, drastically increasing the total number of pay ways, whilst Big Nitro Reels cover a 2×3 area and contain as many as 6 2×2 symbol clusters! The new Nitro Multipliers look similar to the Nitro Reels but offer multipliers of up to 12x, which are applied to all winning combinations – not just ones that happen to pass through them. Throw in the giant symbols, multiple free spin modes, and a huge variety of bonus buy options, and you have one seriously feature-packed online slot!

Nitropolis 4 Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
It hasn’t even been a year since I reviewed the precursor to this game, Nitropolis 3, so it does feel as if ELK Studios are a little premature in following up with a sequel already – I wouldn’t be all that surprised if there were still many players finding enjoyment in Nitropolis 2 at the moment! All of these games sport a very similar look and feel – It’s an apocalyptic, dystopian setting inhabited by all kinds of mutant animals who have formed high-octane racing teams and are fighting each other for the last can of Nitrous Oxide in the hope of winning their rather unique version of a Formula 1, or perhaps NASCAR race! It sounds like a whole lot of fun, and it is, but at the same time, the variance of these games is absolutely off the charts. The highest win on the paytable of Nitropolis 3 was just 5x the total bet, and this game is even more extreme – how much more? Read on.
I should clarify that the numbers listed below are almost irrelevant in a game such as this. There are so many payways and ways to boost the value of each line hit that the raw numbers become practically meaningless. Nevertheless, here’s what we get: the leader of the dog’s team (red) comes in at 3x your bet for a full payway of six of a kind, followed by the cats (purple) at 2x, the pugs (green) at 1.5x, and finally the rats (blue) at 1.25x. Each team’s logo also appears on the reels, and these make up the medium pays with returns for the dogs and cats or 0.8x for the pugs and rats. Finally, four low-paying royals complete the bottom section of the paytable, colour-coded in the same order as the other symbols despite all four sharing identical returns of 0.3x for a full payway of six of a kind.
The minimum/maximum betting limits are pegged at €0.20 and €50.00 per spin, respectively, but you would have to be genuinely crazy to bet anywhere near the upper limit on a game such as this – the volatility would surely empty your bankroll faster than you can blink!
Nitropolis 4 Slot Base Game & Modifiers
A lot is going on in the base game of Nitropolis 4, but all sessions begin with a 6×4 playfield featuring 4,096 payways. However, this setup will soon morph into other configurations, as every spin can result in all kinds of changes being made to the game payway setup. All wins require at least three matching symbols, usually starting from the leftmost reel, although this can change if the both-ways modifier is triggered. You know what? Let’s get down to business and review the many modifiers available in Nitropolis 4!
Nitro Booster Modifiers
There are eight modifiers in total, two of which can be invoked on any single game round. In addition, there are two displays pictured above the main reel set where cards are shown to let you know what modifiers are currently active:
- Redrop: All nitro reels and bonus symbols are kept, whilst all other symbols will be removed, giving you a second chance to accumulate further bonus symbols, nitro reels, and multipliers.
- Both Ways: Winnings are paid for matching symbols starting from either side of the reel set. Six of a kind combinations are paid twice in this circumstance.
- Max Rows: Immediately activates all additional game rows, creating an 8×6 playfield with 262,144 payways.
- Garbage Collect: All instances of a randomly selected low-paying symbol are removed from the reels, allowing new higher-paying symbols to fill the gaps.
- Nitro Appear: A single Nitro Reel is inserted somewhere on the reel set in a random position. Nitro Reels will not replace bonus scatters or multipliers.
- Nitro Wild: One visible Nitro Reel will be filled with wild symbols in place of whatever was there previously.
- Nitro upgrade: All instances of a randomly selected low-paying symbol will be replaced by a higher-paying symbol.
- Nitro Match: An existing Nitro Reel will have its contents replaced by a higher-paying symbol chosen from those currently visible on the reels, which should create many winning payways.
Nitro Reels
Nitro reels appear in two sizes: 1×2 and 2×3. The smaller Nitro Reels cover two vertical symbol positions and can contain 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 individual 1×1 symbols. This will increase the current payway count, so keep an eye on the display above the reel set to see how many ways are currently active!
The larger Nitro Reels contain 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 2×2 symbols, each of which acts like four 1×1 symbols. Again, this can have a drastic effect on the current payway count, as well as your total winnings from the current game round.
Nitro Modifiers
These symbols look a little like Nitro Reels but contain just a single modifier of 4x, 6x, 8x, 10x, or 12x. The multiplier is applied to all wins resulting from the current spin, but the Nitro Modifier symbol can also act as a blocker which potentially lowers the number of winning combinations you will hit on the current spin.
Giant Symbols
All symbols on the paytable can appear as enlarged 2×2 or 3×3 giant symbols. Unfortunately, these are only counted as a single symbol when calculating your winnings.
Nitropolis 4 Slot Bonus Features
Bonus scatter symbols appear all six reels, and landing three or more of them on a single game round will trigger the bonus game. This awards eight free spins for a minimum three-scatter trigger, or 12, 16, or 20 free spins for four, five, or six scatters, respectively.
Free Spins
The free spins come with one significant improvement over the base game – all Nitro Reels which land during this mode will become sticky for the duration of the feature. The free spins also come with a safety levels feature which increases the number of active rows at the start of each round after every winning free spin.
An enhanced ‘Super Bonus’ can also be won by hitting a single Super Bonus symbol simultaneously as two or more regular scatters. During the super bonus, all rows are active right from the start, and all wins pay in both directions.
X-iter Bonus Buy
We’ve grown accustomed to ELK’s games, including a bunch of options on their bonus buy menus, and Nitropolis 4 is no exception! The available choices are as follows:
- Bonus Hunt: A standard bonus bet facility that increases your odds of triggering a bonus round at the cost of 2x the normal price per spin.
- Nitro Booster: Awards a single spin with two guaranteed modifiers at the cost of 10x the normal price per spin.
- Super Spin: Awards a single spin with max rows and pays both ways activated at the cost of 25x the normal price per spin.
- Buy Bonus: A standard bonus buy facility that awards a set of free spins in return for 100x the current stake.
- Super Bonus: The much-vaunted Super version of the free spins, which always starts with 8 rows activated and the pay-both-ways modifier enabled for the duration of the free spins. It sounds awesome, but it has an eye-watering price tag of 500x to match!

Nitropolis 4 Slot Review Final Thoughts
This is a well-presented online slot with a couple of good features, but the low RTP and small maximum jackpot cap let it down. Nevertheless, my opinion of the game definitely improved during the time that I was testing it, and it’s actually a fair bit better than my first impressions suggested. Front Runner Link & Win might just be worth a look, after all!
