Orbs Of Atlantis Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
When Orbs of Atlantis video slot finishes loading you might be confused – there are no reels so the entire background picture of the City of Atlantis sitting on the seabed is visible. I think I reloaded the game the first time I saw this as I thought the game had not finished loading correctly! That is not the case – hit the spin button and you will see two sets of Orb’s drop in from the top of the screen. If you have played any of the video games mentioned during the introduction this will seem instantly familiar, and the aim of the slot is also to match three or more coloured orbs, just like the video games.
You’ll have to pay careful attention to the paytable if you want to understand how much you meant to win from a particular combination. As well as the fact that payouts are determined in a completely novel way in the Orbs of Atlantis slot game, the biggest wins come from hitting extremely long strings of matching symbols. The first issue is that it can be close to impossible to count multiple sets of ten or more symbols before they are removed from the screen. This is further exacerbated by the fact that strings of more than 13 matching symbols return the maximum shown on the paytable for each additional symbol from 14 upwards.
Let’s take the wild symbol, first of all – this returns 333.33x your stake for 13 consecutive wilds in a row, whereas 14 would pay 666.66x, 15 pays 999.99x, and so on. How likely is it to hit 13 or more consecutive matching symbols? Not very, I would guess – I struggle to see how the advertised maximum win of 60,000x stake would ever be possible. If it’s advertised you have to assume that it can be done, but I wasn’t able to find any videos demonstrating something like this. The scatter symbols pay up to 50x your bet when nine or more appear anywhere on the screen, whilst the remaining high-paying symbols pay 333.33x, 133.33x, and 66.66x your stake for 13 consecutive matching orbs.
Wagers are selected in Orbs of Atlantis using a combination of bet level and coin size selectors. The bet levels range between 1 and 10 whilst the coin size ranges from €0.01 to €20.00, resulting in theoretical minimum/maximum bets of €0.15 and €3000.00 per spin(!). Many other Habanero slots have lower maximum bets when playing in Euros, but as far as I was able to determine you really can bet €3000.00 per spin on this one. Don’t do it!
Base Game & Modifiers
The regular game in Orbs of Atlantis uses two tracks of 40 symbols to make up the playfield. The symbols drop onto these tracks from the top centre of the screen and then follow a predetermined path, with winnings awarded for any string of five or more consecutive matching symbols. If there are multiple sets of five or more matching symbols anywhere on the screen then you will be paid for each one of them in turn.
Winning symbols are immediately removed from the screen and once all wins have been paid the two tracks will then fill up with more symbols. The initial cascade of orbs has no multiplier, but as soon as you begin collecting winnings an ascending multiplier starts being applied in steps from 2x, 3x, and then 5x for all successive cascades. Two wilds will be randomly added to the tracks each time more symbols are added to the screen.
There are no traditional modifiers in Orbs of Atlantis, but there is already plenty enough going on to hold players’ attention. Anyone who has played “match three” puzzle games will have no issues understanding what is going on, but working out how much each screen is worth in your mind will likely take significant time.
Orbs Of Atlantis Slot Free Spins Feature
A single free spin bonus round is included, with the paytable explaining that you can win a maximum of 1,000 free spins when you hit nine or more scatter symbols anywhere on the screen. This seemed completely unbelievable… and it probably is. Throughout all of my testing, I never saw more than four scatters appear at the same time – I don’t know if I was just unlucky, but I can’t help but feel nine or more would be an extremely rare event.
The full range of free spin awards is as follows: 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, or 1,000 free games for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9+ scatters respectively. Wow! Must be some huge potential, right? I assume so, but that isn’t what I experienced during testing.
That is despite the multipliers from the base game being upped to 3x, 5x, 9x, and 15x for the fifth and any subsequent wins that result from a single spin. Furthermore, the number of random wilds that are added to the screen is upped from two in the base game to four during the feature.
Again, I don’t know if I was just unlucky but I couldn’t help but feel disappointed by the very low amounts I won from every feature I either bought or hit whilst writing this review.

I definitely think that there is some mileage in the idea of an online slot machine that is based on the mechanics of a match-three puzzle game; just look how much success Play’N’Go has had with their numerous grid slots. Unfortunately, I don’t feel that the way Habanero has done it works quite as well.
