Pandora’s Box Of Evil Slot (Play'n Go) Slot Demo & Review

When I was younger, I remember hearing the line “we’ve opened Pandora’s Box” in several films and television shows. In the days before we all had a supercomputer in our pockets with instant access to the world’s collective knowledge; it was natural to make assumptions about what this meant based on the situation unfolding on screen at the time. Fast forward a few years, and curiosity got the better of me at some stage because I eventually made a point of researching the subject. In modern times, the accepted definition of Pandora’s Box has become “a present which seems valuable, but which in reality is a curse”. I sure hope this does not turn out to be the case with the scarily titled Pandora’s Box of Evil – a new Play’N’Go online slot with 20 paylines, a 96.20% RTP, and a maximum jackpot of 6,000x the total stake.

I’m sure you are wondering what we might find if we were to open this box. For a start, the reels certainly sound as if they are filled with unique and interesting badges! There are mystery symbols, mystery wilds, and even something called the ‘Spirit of Hope’. Regular scatters are also present on all five reels, and landing three of these will trigger eight free spins where the mystery wild symbols become sticky, as well as adding win-boosting multipliers of up to 5x each.

Dare you open the mysterious box and discover what it really holds? Ah, let’s not get too excited here – it’s only an online slot, after all! It may still be worth checking out our free demo slot of Pandora’s Box of Evil, though – it’s available to play below!

If you’ve never looked into the story behind the mythical Pandora’s Box, I’d recommend having a read through the ever-reliable Wikipedia article on the subject when you have a little time to kill! Whilst I do not doubt that the box has featured in many other previous online slots, I wasn’t able to find any mention of them in our review library here at Demoslot – either they are too old or too obscure for us to have checked them out yet! This game boasts Play’N’Go’s usual high standard of polish and presentation, including high-definition graphics and a decent enough soundtrack – you’ll probably tire of the latter eventually, though. My only complaint with this developer is that they never bother adding bonus buy facilities into their slots. However, this probably suggests that UKGC-regulated casinos are their primary market – those of us unfortunate enough to live in old blighty are prohibited from using such features, so I can understand Play’N’Go not dedicating any time to them if the majority of their customers would never have access to them anyway.

The mystery wild symbol gets a special mention on the paytable, as these can only ever be generated as a result of the regular mystery symbols choosing to create them. A full payline of five mystery wilds will pay you 8x the total bet, matching the payout for the top regular symbol, which features a female character. The remaining high pays all feature depictions of grotesque creatures; the yellow and orange monsters are the most valuable, paying 7x and 6x, respectively, for all five symbols, whilst the green and blue guys are worth slightly less at 5x each for a complete payline. As for the low-paying royals, these are divided into two groups, with the Ace/King paying 2x each and the Queen/Jack/Ten offering 1.2x the total bet for all five symbols.

Play’N’Go usually includes a decent number of betting options in their games, and this one is no different. You can play for just €0.05 per spin if you wish, whilst the maximum bet is limited to €100.00 – more than enough for even the wealthiest players, I suspect.

Base Game & Modifiers

The reel set used in Pandora’s Box of Evil is slightly larger than that of a typical video slot – there are still five reels, but each of these includes four rows rather than the usual three. All wins are paid from left to right and require at least three matching symbols starting from the leftmost reel. With just 20 paylines, it can be pretty tough to line up a winning line in this game – the mystery symbols do help with this, however.

Mystery Symbols

These symbols work in mostly the same way as the mystery symbols included in other online slots. This means that all of them, visible on the screen after each spin, will transform into one symbol chosen randomly from the paytable.

This game does add a slight twist to the formula. There is a chance for individual mystery symbols to transform into scatters, mystery wilds, or the Spirit of Hope symbol instead.

Mystery Wilds

Every mystery symbol can be replaced with a mystery wild, which is worth the same as the game’s highest-paying regular symbol. Mystery wilds can have a multiplier of 2x, 3x, 4x, or 5x, and if more than one of these appears on a single payline, their values will be added together before being applied to your win.

Spirit Of Hope

This is the most valuable symbol that a mystery symbol can reveal, as it causes a free re-spin to occur at the end of the current game round. During these re-spins, mystery symbols scatters, and mystery wilds will all lock in place after they land. Whenever a new re-spin is awarded, any visible mystery symbols will open again to reveal a new random symbol.

Pandora’s Box Of Evil Slot Bonus Features

Bonus scatter symbols appear on reels one, three, and five only, and you’ll need all three of them to trigger a set of eight free spins. Let’s take a look below at what you can expect to see from this feature.

Free Spins

The main advantage of this feature is that the mystery wild symbols become sticky for the duration of the bonus round. You’ll need to hit the regular mystery symbols first, however, and then be lucky enough for a large number of them to transform into the more valuable mystery wilds.

Fortunately, you can win additional free spins by hitting more scatters whilst the feature is in play. One will add two free spins to your remaining total, whilst two or three will award another five or eight free spins, respectively.

Pandora’s Box Of Evil Slot Review Final Thoughts

There’s little to complain about with this game – it looks great, offers decent wins, and has a reasonable enough number of features to keep it interesting for a while. But, at the same time, it’s certainly not a standout release by Play’N’Go standards – I’d definitely recommend checking this game out, but I can’t promise it will hold your attention over the long term.
