Peggy Sweets Slot (Red Tiger Gaming) Slot Demo & Review

The back catalogue of Red Tiger is an interesting collection of online slots, with a huge variety of both common and unusual themes and feature sets to discover. Whilst some of the other top-tier studios stick to a relatively small range of mechanics and bonus rounds, Red Tiger is a developer who isn’t afraid to try new things – even if that results in a scenario where not every player will be a fan of every one of their games. It’s the old love-or-hate strategy that it’s better for some players to love a subset of your output rather than everybody having a take-it-or-leave-it attitude to your work. The developer has opted for a grid slot on this occasion in their title Peggy Sweets, backed by a 95.68% RTP and a maximum recorded real-world jackpot of 5,173x your bet.

I haven’t played many grid slots by Red Tiger before – they have probably created at least a handful of such games in the past, but it definitely isn’t a niche that I would typically associate with this developer. Can these guys add anything new to what is already a hugely popular and varied genre? There’s no doubt they are giving it their best shot, implementing several modifiers along with a chain reaction feature, win multipliers, and a free spin bonus round.

Fans of grid slots will no doubt be eager to give this one a try, and as always, we are here to help with our free demo slot of Peggy Sweets, available below.

Peggy Sweets Slot Paytable

The sweets mentioned in the title of this game are not the typical sweets that have come to be associated with endless online slots. Instead, Red Tiger is going with the more American interpretation of the term; remember, over in the States, the term “candy” is usually associated with what Europeans refer to as sweets, whilst doughnuts, sundaes, and jelly/jello are commonly thought of as sweets. It’s really quite fascinating to look back at how much the English language has developed in the short time that America has been developing independently of its prior colonial master Great Britain. However, differences such as this are unlikely to continue to grow in the future, as the world is far more globalised today. If I’ve managed to make your tummy rumble a little talking about sugary desserts, why not take a look at some other food-related games like Donuts or Sweet Bonanza. Anyway, back to today’s review, let’s crack on.

Calculating your winnings is often a little awkward with Red Tiger’s games, as the developer refuses to implement an auto-adjusting paytable system for some reason. Thankfully, the grid slot setup used in Peggy’s Sweets has simplified things significantly, and the numbers given here are simple multipliers of your stake. I’ll provide the payouts for the maximum cluster size of 25 or more symbols in addition to the return for 18/19 and 12-14 symbols to give you a solid idea of the payouts on offer. Peggy features three times, and the simplest way to differentiate between these symbols is with the smaller symbol shown in the bottom-right corner of the graphic. Star Peggy is worth 150x/30x/8x for the cluster sizes mentioned above, followed by Compact Disc Peggy at 100x/25x/6x, and Bow Peggy at 60x/16x/4x. Peggy’s sweets make up the lower-paying half of the paytable but still have reasonable maximum cluster returns of between 12.5x and 50x your bet.

Red Tiger, from my experience, are always very fair with the bet sizes in general, which is again reflected in Peggy Sweets, with the minimum stake starting at just €0.10 a spin, before reaching a maximum of €10 a play. Some may argue this isn’t the largest amount for those that high roll, but surely €10 has to be enough for most players.

Base Game & Modifiers

Peggy Sweets Slot Base Game

The grid used in Peggy’s Sweets is relatively small by cluster slot standards. It’s a 5×5 playfield meaning 25 total positions for symbols to land, so it’s probably good that there are only seven unique symbols on the paytable.

Thankfully, all seven of those symbols pay as scatters in this game, meaning that you only need eight or more matching symbols anywhere in view to score yourself a win. Winning combinations will explode immediately after landing, allowing a fresh set of symbols to drop in from the top of the screen and potentially offering the chance to hit multiple sequential wins from a single paid spin.

One Peggy symbol is active on every base game spin, and you can see which one is in play at any time by looking at the girl shown to the left of the main reel set. The three modifiers listed below can only activate when the corresponding Peggy is activated.

  • Bow Peggy Modifier: Swaps out all occurrences of one random lower-paying symbol for a higher-paying symbol.
  • Compact Disc Peggy Modifier: Doubles the number of symbols of a particular type currently visible on the grid.
  • Star Peggy Modifier: Awards a multiplier for any wins on the current spin and any re-spins or chain reactions that may result.

Peggy Sweets Slot Bonus Features

Peggy Sweets Slot Free Spins Feature

Free spin symbols can appear anywhere on the grid, although it appears that the number which can land during a single round is limited to three. You’ll need to hit all three available free spin symbols to trigger the bonus round, consisting of eight free spins.

Free Spins

Whilst only one modifier is available at any time during the base game, the free spins feature does away with that restriction and allows all modifiers to be triggered on any spin. It is even possible for two or even three modifiers to activate on a single free spin. The modifiers awarded by Star Peggy are retained between spins whilst the bonus round is in play, although the total multiplier that can be attained is limited to 30x.

The free spin symbols do not appear during this part of the game, but you can win additional free spins by landing winning combinations that feature the highest-paying Peggy symbols. Each symbol will contribute one step to the progress bar shown at the top of the reels, and there are even special double symbols which contribute two steps and only appear during the bonus round. Fill the meter with 36 symbols, and eight free spins will be added to your remaining counter.

Bonus Buy

The bonus round is undoubtedly the most profitable part of Peggy’s Sweets, and if permitted within your jurisdiction, you can opt to go directly there at a price of just 60x the normal cost per spin. That’s a bargain, in my opinion, so it’s a shame that many players will be prohibited from taking advantage of this facility.

Peggy Sweets Slot Review Final Thoughts

The theme of Peggy’s Sweets didn’t appeal to me, and on the whole, the game ended up feeling very average in most areas. The competition within the grid slot genre is tough right now, with cutting-edge games seemingly appearing on the market at a record pace. In such an environment, Peggy’s Sweets just doesn’t offer much to get excited about. It’s not a bad game, but there isn’t much worth shouting about either.
