Game Overview
If there’s ever a game that has been in need of a bit of a revamp, it’s Minesweeper, or Mines as some like to call it. Sure, it was great at killing boredom at work (when the boss wasn’t looking), but the graphics were boring and the gameplay was nothing more than clicking a tile and hoping it’s not a mine. In the casino gaming sense, there have been a few mines games, which is excellent, as at least you can win some money even if the gameplay isn’t the best, but again, not many look that great. Well, step forward, King Midas Gaming, who has given the game a complete revamp via impressive cute graphics, a slight tweak of the rules, and added a social element, meaning you’re competing with other players. Penguin Panic is a social multiplayer game with a 97% RTP and a maximum win of 200x the stake.
As you play along in Penguin Panic, many other players can participate, and that’s good news, as the more that play a round, the larger the amount you stand to win. That’s because stakes are pooled, and all the winners receive an equal share of that pool (minus a 3% cut to the casino), while the losers go home empty-handed. The gameplay is simple, too, as you and all the other players choose from 19 sheets of ice to sit their penguin and wait to see which sheets of ice crack. If your penguin ends up in the water, you lose; if not, a share of the prize pool comes your way.
Do you think you have what it takes to beat everyone else and claim a share of the prize pool in this multiplayer game from KingMidas? Then, put your (free) money where your mouth is on the Penguin Panic demo below.
Theme, stakes, pays & symbols
I think it’s fair to say you’ll not find many online casino games quite like Penguin Panic, at least not yet, but the original Minesweeper has been converted into an instant win game by several other developers over the years. Spribe Gaming has developed one of the best, with its Mines game offering a mouthwatering maximum win of 10,000x the stake. You’ll also find similar titles, such as Turbo Mines from Turbo Games and Mines Dare2Win from Hacksaw Gaming.
Back to Penguin Panic and the question I know you’re all asking, and that’s how much you can win when playing Penguin Panic. Well, the short answer is up to 200x the stake, but to scoop that much, you’d need 199 other players to play, and for you to somehow be the only penguin left standing after a round. It’s also important to remember that the casino takes a 3% cut of the prize pools, which is where the 97% RTP comes from; the rest of the money goes from the losing players to those who guessed the right ice sheets.
We end with the cost to play, and I’m only going off the demo version here, but the minimum stakes seem a tad high at €2.00, while the maximum bet reaches €50.00. I think, in reality, the real-money version will offer far lower entry points so that low-rollers can enjoy Penguin Panic, too.
How to Play Penguin Panic
The gameplay on Penguin Panic is easy to understand, as all you need to do is select a stake, wait for a new round to start, and choose an ice sheet you’ll live or die on. Random ice sheets crack once the round timer ends, sending penguins and their players into an icy cold despair. If you win, the prize pool is totalled up and split between you and any others who made it unscathed.
There are some social aspects to the game, too, and not just the fact that it’s a multiplayer game. Players that rank on the top of the current leaderboard have avatars above their heads – which is good to know as you can follow their bets by placing your penguin on the same tile as theirs. You can also brag or moan to the lobby using emojis.
It’s also possible to set up automatic spins up to an unlimited number, while the strategists among you can use the history page to determine which tiles to send your penguin to.
Pros
- Multiplayer game with a pooled prize shared by the winners.
- Visually, Penguin Panic is a major upgrade on regular Mines.
Cons
- The 2.00 minimum stake is a bit high (although this could be for the demo only).
Penguin Panic Review Final Thoughts
To be perfectly honest, I’ve never played a multiplayer game like this, so I have nothing to compare it to. But I will say this, and that’s that it’s a nice alternative to playing slots. Sure, you’re not going win huge amounts in the short term, but the action is fast, and at least you know that any money you lose is going to other players rather than the casino’s pockets (minus their 3% cut, of course). For some quick, simple and fun casino gaming, Penguin Panic is a great option if you ask me.
