Game Overview

One little piggy went to market; Another little piggy stayed home. As for the third little piggy, he robbed a bank and ended up featuring in a Playtech slot machine called Piggies & The Bank. I guess he should have just had roast beef! Still, at least he’s immortalised in the history books, unlike his brother, that ended up as a plate of delicious salt and pepper pork belly. So just how much was our piggy friend able to steal in Piggies & The Bank? Playtech isn’t saying, but they do admit that the grand jackpot of 2,000x your bet can be won multiple times from a single bonus round… so probably enough to buy a whole cow! The game also features 50 fixed paylines and offers a respectable RTP of 95.38%.

Piggies & The Bank is part of the Mega Fire Blaze series of Playtech machines, all of which include a three-spin feature with four fixed jackpot prizes. The value of these is displayed above the reels at all times, with the largest ‘GRAND’ jackpot returning a respectable 2,000x the current stake. Game-specific features include a free spins bonus with expanding wild symbols and a gold wild re-spin mode – both of these are reasonably fun but lack the excitement of the Mega Fire Blaze bonus round with its much larger prize potential.

I’ve been doing a little thinking recently – if a pig can get away with robbing a bank, surely I could pull off a heist myself? While I draw up the blueprints for the next big assault on Hatton Garden, why not fire up our free demo slot of Piggies & The Bank for a few spins? It’s available to play below!

Hi, again folks! I’ve just been released from prison after trying to buy a diamond-tipped metre-long drill bit and a half dozen shape charges. Looks like the bank robbery is off the cards for a while – I guess I’d better hope I get lucky playing Piggies & The Bank instead! I have to say it all feels a little unfair really – those Peaky Pigs terrorised Birmingham for decades without even breaking a sweat! Perhaps I need to learn how to turn myself invisible like the pigs in Hacksaw’s Magic Piggy. I guess all this has taught me why parents tell their kids to keep their Piggy Riches in a ‘piggy bank’… I only wish that I’d listened instead of trading warez on AmiExpress!

Fifty-line games suffer a similar problem to slots that feature thousands of payways in that it’s very difficult for developers to offer anything substantial for any single combination. Hitting five scatter symbols will return you 50x your total stake, which isn’t all that impressive but is certainly better than the other prizes. Take the two wilds, for example – these come in pink and golden varieties, but both share equal payouts of 150 coins for a full payline of five of a kind. I say coins because Playtech has this annoying habit of showing payouts as a multiple of the line bet rather than as a product of the total bet or even just a flat cash value – this can be really quite confusing to the uninitiated, so I’ll convert the remainder of the payouts into multiples of stake. The gold bars are the highest-paying regular symbols, with a 150 coin payout, but this is equivalent to just 3x the total bet in real terms! The safe will pay 2x your stake for all five symbols, as will the piles of banknotes. As for the low pays, five aces or kings pay 1.5x the current stake, with the remaining royals dropping this down to a flat 1x for a five-of-a-kind combination.

Playtech’s slots are pretty crazy regarding the range of bets they offer – this one, for example, allows minimum bets of just €0.10, but the upper limit is an outrageous €450.00 a go! If you’ve got that kind of money to splash out on playing slots, then more power to you, but for everybody else, please be sure not to accidentally spin the reels with such a huge wager selected!

Base Game & Modifiers

Piggies And The Bank Slot Base Game
Piggies and the Bank slot base game

For a game that uses the default video slot configuration of just five reels and three rows, this machine includes an unusually high number of fixed paylines – fifty, to be precise. This setup makes it much easier to hit winning combinations but has a very noticeable side effect in that those wins are almost certain to be much lower than you would like! A quick glance at the numbers listed on the paytable in the previous section confirms this fact comprehensively, with even the highest-paying symbols offering only a tiny prize of just three times the total bet.

Gold Wild Respins

The base game has an additional trick up its sleeve to help offset the disappointment caused by its low payouts, which Playtech has dubbed the ‘gold wild re-spins. This feature activates whenever a gold wild symbol lands such that it covers its entire three-high reel and sets off a sequence of free re-spins where the stacked wild moves one reel to the left with each spin.

If any additional stacked gold wilds land during the feature, those will be held in place, and the feature will re-trigger once more. During the gold wild re-spins, any cash coin symbols that land on the reels will transform into wild symbols – if a full stack of cash coin symbols lands, it will become a stacked golden wild, causing a further re-trigger to be awarded. The feature only ends when no more golden wilds are visible on the playfield, so lucky players may find this feature continuing for some time on a good day!

Piggies And The Bank Slot Bonus Features

Landing three or more scatter symbols anywhere on the reels will award eight free games. You don’t receive any additional spins for a four or five-scatter trigger, but there is at least a small cash premium for those lucky occasions where such combinations occur.

Free Spins

During the free games feature, any gold wild that lands on the playfield will automatically expand to cover its entire reel, effectively making every golden wild into a stacked golden wild which will trigger the re-spin feature just as in the base game.

The free spins can be re-triggered by landing three or more scatters whilst the feature is in play, adding eight more free spins to your remaining total.

Mega Fire Blaze

Finally, Piggy & The Bank includes Playtech’s popular Mega Fire Blaze jackpot feature, which offers four fixed jackpot prizes. The amounts offered are as follows:

  • MINI – 20x Bet
  • MINOR – 100x Bet
  • MAJOR – 500x Bet
  • GRAND – 2,000x Bet

To activate the Mega Fire Blaze, you’ll first need to land at least six coin symbols during either the base game or free spins. Each coin symbol will award either a cash prize or a star – the star coins are what award the game’s jackpot prizes, and you’re guaranteed one jackpot for every star visible on the reels at the end of the bonus round.

Best of all, this feature is played on an enlarged reel set with nine rows – any prizes landing on the seventh row will be multiplied by 2, whilst a 5x multiplier boosts those landing on row eight. All coins landing on row nine are guaranteed to award a jackpot prize.

Pros

  • Lots of features to discover and enjoy.
  • The Mega Fire Blaze is a fantastic bonus round – when you can hit it!
  • The re-Spin feature provides a means of hitting big wins even during the base game.

Cons

  • The regular paytable prizes are very small.
  • The free spins feature is a bit of a letdown compared to the Mega Fire Blaze

Final Thoughts

This is the first time I’ve played a Mega Fire Blaze game – my first impressions weren’t great, but I soon found myself warming to the game, and by the time I finished writing this review, my opinion had changed dramatically. The Mega Fire Blaze is definitely the best aspect of the machine though, and that can be found in many other existing slots.
