Piñatas And Ponies Slot (Red Tiger Gaming) Slot Demo & Review

If you like cute-looking online slots, Red Tiger has a special treat for you today! The developer’s latest game, titled Pinatas and Ponies, is bright, colourful, and sickly sweet. The backdrop is filled with candy, flowers, balloons, and, well… Pinatas and Ponies, of course! This is a grid slot that uses a 6×6 grid, creating 36 positions for symbols to fill. Everything works as a scatter in this game, so there is no need for pay lines or pay ways. As for the rest of the vital statistics, the RTP is a touch below average at 95.72%, whilst the maximum win has been determined through mathematical simulation as 3709.9x your bet.

The headline feature of the Pinatas & Ponies online slot is the different-sized pony pinatas that appear above the grid. These are filled with win multipliers which can be awarded randomly during the base game or filled and unlocked during the free spin bonus round for bigger win potential. Speaking of those free spins, you’ll need at least three of the Sweet Spins symbols to trigger them initially, and you can also re-trigger the feature for additional sets of 10 free spins as well. A feature buy facility with multiple options is available if permitted within your jurisdictions.

Paytable For The Pinatas And Ponies Slot
Piñata’s and Ponies slot paytable

Pinatas are an alien concept in my country; I see them featured on TV shows sometimes, but I’ve never seen one at a party or anything like that. The word Pinata is a Spanish term for a container that is often made of paper mache or cloth before being decorated and filled with candy or other treats. In some ways, Pinatas are much like slot machines – you never know what they could give you! It’s not surprising, then, that several online slots have been released over the years that feature the Pinata, including the Pinata Smash game we recently reviewed here at Demoslot.

You’ll need at least ten matching symbols anywhere on the screen to score a win in Pinatas and Ponies, which seems like a big ask to begin with. There are only eight different symbols, however, and the 36 possible positions mean that you can actually hit three different groups of ten symbols on a single spin if you are fortunate. The top symbol looks like some chocolate and toffee truffle and will pay you… ah, now here is where we run into a problem.

Red Tiger’s paytables are notoriously tricky to work out; even the help file for this game gives a formula for calculating winnings based on paylines, yet this game has no paylines. I had to play the game, record my winnings for various combinations, and then compare them against what was shown on the paytable to determine how things worked. This really should not be necessary, and Red Tiger desperately needs to start implementing a paytable mechanism which updates automatically in line with your currently selected stake.

Let’s try this again, then, shall we? The highest-paying chocolate toffee truffle symbol will pay you 20x your total bet for 25 or more symbols anywhere on the grid, whilst the red and white candy is worth 10x for the same maximum combination of 25 or more symbols. The pink swirly candy is worth 7x for a maximum hit, while the toffee drops this down to just 5x for 25 symbols. I have to say; I expected the winnings to be a little bigger, considering that you need 25 or more symbols on a 36-position grid to score these wins.

The betting range is relatively small in this game. Or perhaps sensible should be the word? I never really think it’s a good idea to be betting €100.00 per round on any online slot, but if you enjoy that kind of thing, you may want to look elsewhere as this game only permits bets of between €0.10 and €10.00 per round.

Base Game & Modifiers

Win Up To 3,709x Your Bet In The Pinata And Ponies Online Slot
Piñata and Ponies slot base game

Spinning the base game works like many other grid slots; it’s a 6×6 playfield, meaning there are 36 positions, and you need at least ten matching symbols anywhere on the screen to form a winning combination. Any time this happens, the winning symbols are immediately removed from the grid, allowing new ones to drop in from the top, potentially creating several consecutive wins from a single paid spin.

Multiplier Modifier

During the base game, the pinatas along the top of the screen may decide to award a random multiplier of up to 30x to your winnings. This happens quite frequently, but most of the time, the multiplier applied will be just 2x or 3x; I never saw anything higher than 10x during my game testing.

PiÑatas And Ponies Slot Bonus Features

Piñata's And Ponies Slot Free Spins Feature
Piñata’s and Ponies slot free spins feature

You will need to hit three sweet spins scatter symbols anywhere on the grid to trigger the main bonus round unless you opt to purchase the feature using the bonus buy option detailed below.

Sweet Spins Feature

During this mode, every winning combination will contribute to filling up the progress bar above the playfield, which will gradually unlock the larger Pinatas, which hold the biggest multipliers. You are only awarded ten free spins initially, and I believe reaching the largest Pinata with just ten spins would be difficult. Luckily, you can re-trigger the feature by hitting three or more further sweet spin scatter symbols whilst the feature is in play.

It would have been nice to see a couple more special mods or extras in this part of the game, but it’s a fun bonus round that is still worth looking forward to.

Bonus Buy

There are four options on the bonus buy menu. The first three cost 5x, 10x, and 15x the normal bet, respectively, and unlock each of the three Pinatas above the grid during the base game. This will immediately grant you a random multiplier and also seems to affect the number of matching symbols that will appear on the next spin.

I had a lot of luck with the small Pinata feature at 5x the regular bet, coming out with a profit almost every time, but I was much less successful with the higher-priced options.

You can also purchase the sweet spins bonus round for 80x the regular stake, which seems like a bargain to me, and I would definitely use this option if it were available in my jurisdiction.

PiÑatas And Ponies Slot Review Final Thoughts

This game is another win for Red Tiger, and the only criticism I can make of it is the opaque nature of the paytable. I honestly have no idea why Red Tiger doesn’t just implement an automatically updating paytable as almost every other developer does… hopefully they will get around to it one day. In the meantime, at least we have a great new fun slot to play in Pinatas & Ponies!
