Piranha Pays (Play'n Go) Slot Demo & Review

I’m not sure about you guys, but if I had a list of the types of fish I’d least like to have in a fish tank at home, the Piranha would be right up there – these things have teeth like razor blades and can remove the flesh from bones within seconds. Well, for one old and lonely-looking grandad in Play n Go slots release Piranha Pays, it would seem the Piranha is the perfect companion. The well-presented cutscene gives you the backstory, so I don’t need to dive into that in much detail – as we all know, the specs are the most important aspect, and it’s those I’ll fill you in on here. Piranha Pays is a 5-reel, 4-row, and 30-payline slot as standard, but during the free spins bonus, those rows can grow up to 8 in height to deliver up to 50 win lines. As for the RTP and potential max win, those are 96.20% and 5,000x the stake, respectively.

As always, the main bonus game is the ultimate aim, and on Piranha Pays, that bonus allows you to spin on reels with up to as many as four additional rows, which increases the paylines up to a maximum of 50 – plus, the persistent Roaming Piranha Wild grows in size up to a maximum of 4×4 each time you unlock a new row. As for the base game, there is the chance to trigger a random win multiplier of up to 10x and land instant prizes worth up to 20x the stake.

Will Piranha Pays prove to be a slot you could get your teeth into at online casinos, or will it lack the bite you were hoping for? I suggest you dive right in to find out via the Piranha Pays slot demo below. As it’s free to play, it won’t take bite-sized chunks out of your bankroll!

Piranha Pays Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

Piranha Pays Slot Paytable
Piranha Pays slot paytable

You’ll be hard-pressed to find many slots themed on these underwater terrors, but there is one other I know about, and that’s Blazing Piranhas from PearFiction Studios – a slot with the same 5,000x max win as this one but with three bonus games and a buy bonus. Beast Below is another option you can play over at our Hacksaw Gaming free play page, and whilst not directly themed on the Piranha, it does feature the flesh-eating fish as one of the symbols. Alternatively, if you like the idea of a fishing theme but not the horrors, our Pragmatic slots demo of their Fish Eye slot is worth checking out, too.

A first look at the paytable on Piranha Pays hardly had me chomping at the bit to hit the spin button, but there are some semi-decent wins available. The Slab of Meat sits at the top with a 20x stake payout if five line up across a payline. Next up is the Pie, which returns 16x, while the Egg on Toast serves up 10x. The Battenburg Cake and Jammie Dodger round out the premium symbols, offering 6x a piece for winning combos of five. At the lower end of the scale, we have the royals, with the Ace and King paying out 2x and the Queen and Jack both returning 1.6x for a full line of five. Finally, the Piranha acts as a wild and scatter symbol, so it will help to create payouts by substituting for all regular symbols.

It’s onto the bet selection next, and stakes begin from as little as €0.10 a spin on the Piranha Pays slot, whilst the maximum price to play reaches as high as €50. Play’n Go offers a wide range of options between these two values, so you shouldn’t have any problem finding a level to play at that you are comfortable with.

Piranha Pays Slot Base Game & Modifiers

Piranha Pays Slot Base Game
Piranha Pays slot base game

Play’n Go has gone with a 5×4 configuration with 30 paylines for the base game, and as standard, you’ll need to land three or more matching symbols across one of those paylines from left to right. While there are not a lot of base game features/modifiers, a couple can help chew through the monotony as you attempt to trigger the main bonus.

Win Multipliers

During any spin during the base game or in the free spins bonus, a win multiplier between 2x and 10x can trigger. It will apply to all wins that the spin created.

Mystery Instant Wins

Much like a consolation prize, after a spin nearly delivers the three scatter symbols required to trigger the free spins bonus game, there is a chance of receiving an instant win worth 5x, 10x, 15x, or 20x the stake.

Piranha Pays Slot Bonus Features

Piranha Pays Slot Free Spins Feature

Directly above the reels is the combination of scatter symbols you need to land to trigger the free spins bonus. That is the Piranha wild/scatter symbol and two Can scatter symbols. The former only appears on the first reel, and the two former can only appear on reels three and five.

Free Spins Feature

Once triggered, you’re given 10 free spins of the reels, which start at 5×5 with 35 paylines and can grow up to 5×8 and 50 paylines. You’ll progress along the trail above the reels each time a new set of scatters lands on the first, third, and fifth reels. Each time you manage this, the rows increase by one, and therefore the number of paylines increases as well. Furthermore, the Piranha Wild symbol will remain on the reels and roam on each spin, while it will also grow in size as you move through the levels.

  • First Level: 5×5 reels with 35 paylines and a 1×1 Piranha Wild.
  • Second Level: 5×6 reels with 40 paylines and a 2×2 Piranha Wild.
  • Third Level: 5×7 reels with 45 paylines and a 3×3 Piranha Wild.
  • Fourth Level: 5×8 reels with 50 paylines and a 4×4 Piranha Wild.

Pros

  • Another top Play’n Go effort in terms of graphics and animations.
  • Two bonus rounds to trigger.

Cons

  • Just half the max win of the original.

Piranha Pays Slot Review Final Thoughts

Piranha Pays, like many other Play’n Go slots, is a fun and quirky release that will probably prove a popular choice for some. I didn't have much luck playing the demo personally, and although I triggered the bonus game three times, I never once progressed at least one step on the trail.
