Pirate Bonanza (Hacksaw Gaming) Slot Demo & Review

We’re heading back to the seven seas in our latest slot review, and that means stocking up on rum, whacking on an eye patch, recruiting a shoulder-friendly parrot, and dragging our cannonballs to our pirate ship. The developer behind the latest Arr-inducing slot Pirate Bonanza, is Backseat Gaming, who have released this title in partnership with Hacksaw Gaming. What can we expect? Well, at its core, it’s a 6×5 scatter pays slot with a 96.31% RTP and a 10,000x the stake maximum win.

Aside from those basics, Pirate Bonanza utilises an interesting tumble feature with highlighted positions that, should a Cannon symbol appear, will turn into multipliers between 2x and 100x. Those values are either added to or, in some cases, multiplied with a global win multiplier that applies to the total win on the current spin. There’s also a chance to trigger two free spins bonus games, the best of which gives you spins where highlighted positions remain sticky – which means more chance to land those multipliers!

Have I done enough to intrigue you into learning more about this pirate-themed slot? If you’re ready to give it a try, then read on below, where you can also enjoy the free Pirate Bonanza demo slot.

Pirate Bonanza Slot Paytable

While the Pirate theme is one you’ll come across on many slot games, it’s been a while since I last reviewed one. Well, at least it feels that way, as I cannot remember any off the top of my head. A look back through shows that Cannonball Cash from Red Tiger Gaming was the latest, and now it makes sense why I didn’t remember – it’s pretty lacklustre. The best I’ve played is probably Elk Studios Dead Man’s Gold, a slot with up to 262,144 paylines, giant symbols, win multipliers, and a free spins bonus. I’m certainly hoping Pirate Bonanza is as good or perhaps even better than that slot, purely because there are not many other pirate-themed slots I’d consider worthwhile playing.

The next step in today’s review of Pirate Bonanza is to investigate the paytable. There are nine paying symbols in total, with the theme-related ones offering the best payouts. The Pirate’s Hat and the Compass are both worth a cool 400x the stake when 19 or more land anywhere in view, whilst the Map and Bottle of Rum also share a payout of 200x. The five coloured Gems complete the pays section, and all return 50x the stake for wins of 19+ symbols.

Finally, we come to the stake selection, and you can opt to play from a minimum of €0.10 up to a maximum of €100.00 per spin. So, plenty of options are available for players of all-sized budgets.

Pirate Bonanza Slot Base Game

Pirate Bonanza Slot Base Game

Pirate Bonanza is played on a 6×5 reel configuration operating on a scatter pays mechanic. This means you’ll scoop payouts when 8 or more matching symbols land in any position on the same spin.

Tumble Wins & The Cannon Feature

Winning combinations are removed from the reels, allowing new symbols and those still on the reels to tumble down to fill the vacated positions. This cascading mechanism can lead to additional wins, and the process can be repeated.

However, this tumble feature differs from others in that the reel positions involved in winning combinations become highlighted. If the Cannon symbol lands as part of the spin, it will add multiplier bombs to all highlighted positions once the spin comes to an end. The bombs explode to reveal a multiplier, and all are added or multiplied to the spin global win multiplier that will apply to the total already won from the spin.

  • Low-value bombs: These have values of 2x, 3x, 4x, or 5x, and those values are ‘added’ to the global win multiplier.
  • Medium Value Bombs: These have values of 10x, 15x, 20x, or 25x, which are ‘added’ to the global win multiplier.
  • High-Value Bombs: These have values of 50x, 75x, or 100x, which are ‘added’ to the global win multiplier.
  • Golden Multiplier Bombs: These have values of 2x, 3x, 5x, or 10x, and they are used to ‘multiply’ the global win multiplier.

Pirate Bonanza Slot Bonus Features

Pirate Bonanza Slot Bonus Feature

There are two bonus games to aim for on the Pirate Bonanza slot, which are triggered when four or five scatters land simultaneously during a base game spin. Let’s learn more about what these are.

Loads The Cannons Free Spins

Four scatter symbols get you 10 free spins on reels that now have a higher chance of landing the Cannon symbol. Furthermore, you receive an additional 5 spins each time three scatters land on the same spin.

Fire At Will Free Spins

Five scatters award everything in the previous free spins bonus, but now the highlighted positions remain sticky until the bonus game ends.

Bonus Buy

You can choose from one of the bonus buy options on the Pirate Bonanza slot:

  • BonusHunt FeatureSpins: For 3x your current stake, you can spin with five times the chance of triggering a free spins bonus game.
  • Broadside FeatureSpins: For 50x, you spin with the guarantee that at least 1 Cannon symbol lands.
  • Load the Cannons Bonus: You can purchase this free spins bonus for 100x your current stake.

Pros

  • Highlighted positions and multipliers have the potential to create substantial wins.
  • Lots of bonus buy and enhanced play options.

Cons

  • The best bonus round is hard to trigger unless you use the buy bonus - perhaps that's the plan?

Pirate Bonanza Slot Review Final Thoughts

We’re spoilt for choice when it comes to scatter pays slots, so any new one coming along has to make sure it can stand out from the crowd. Pirate Bonanza has opted for a highlighted position mechanic with multipliers in an attempt to achieve that, and in all honesty, it can throw up some big multiplier wins. Is that mechanic enough to pull you away from the other big contenders in this genre? I guess that will come down to personal preference.
