Pop Cop (Yggdrasil Gaming) Slot Demo & Review

Game provider Peter and Sons have created a stunning world of anime-inspired cartoon cops and robbers for us to explore in today’s review. A female good cop turned bad plays the lead role, and we’ll follow her escapades as she chases down a band of bandits that seem to have had several beatings from the ugly stick in order to steal their loot for herself. Let’s dig a bit deeper to see how this story develops. Pop Cop is a medium volatility, six-reel, five-row slot featuring a maximum win of 10,000x and an RTP of 96.20%.

Sun, sea, and sand are on the horizon of the palm tree lined beach view that serves as the backdrop for this title. Whist a female in uniform named City Cop, pursues several local degenerates on her futuristic electric scooter. The slot action takes place on a 6×5 grid, and a scatter pays mechanism is utilised, requiring players to land a minimum of eight of the same symbols anywhere on the screen to achieve a win. This is complimented by the popular cascading reels system, where all symbols involved in a winning combination are removed from the grid and replaced with new ones. Game-enhancing bonuses include an Area Multiplier and a free spins round, which features increased multiplier values up to x50.

I’ve not previously had much exposure to the world of anime, and the best way I can think to describe the theme of today’s review is a cross between Baywatch and Robocop. If that sounds appealing to you, then you can check out the Pop Cop demo slot, which is available to play for free below!

Pop Cop Paytable
Pop Cop paytable

There are a fair few law enforcement inspired slots on the market if you care to look for them. One that sticks in my mind is Cops and Robbers Megaways, from provider Inspired Gaming. The original arcade machine version of this game was a runaway success during its time, and the online Megaways version is a great follow-up. However, if you’d prefer something slightly more edgy, Max Win W.P.D could be the ticket. It’s a high volatility slot game with a maximum win of 30,000x and features a muscley agent named Max who stars in a high action sticky wilds style bonus round. It’s time to get back on track with Pop Cop now, and the next step of our review takes us over to the pays section; I’ll see you there.

In order to achieve the highest payout for each symbol on the paytable, you will need to see 11 or more of them land on the screen. The exception is the Golden Safe scatter symbol, which is also the most valuable symbol, returning 100x the total stake if five or more land in view. The highest paying standard symbol featured on Pop Cop is the Yellow Character, which will pay 50x for 11+ symbols. Next, it’s the Red Character at 25x, the Purple Character at 15x, and the final premium, the Green Character, worth 12x bet. The non-premiums listed on the charge sheet are funky looking versions of the A, K, Q, J, and 10, which will pay 10x, 8x, 5x, 4x, and 2x, respectively, for 11 or more symbols that land on the screen.

When it comes to the stake options, there are a fair few on offer. There are 14 different options to choose from, to be precise, and these range from as low as €0.10 to as high as €50.00, ensuring an abundance of possibilities for real money players.

Pop Cop Slot Base Game

Pop Cop Base Game

Pop Cop operates over a 6×5 reel formation and uses a scatter pays system, which requires a minimum of eight of the same symbols to be present anywhere on the screen. These symbols do not need to be linked in any way for a win to be paid. The cascading reels system is utilised, with any symbols that are involved in a win being removed from the grid, creating additional space for further symbols to drop in from the top. This offers the opportunity for multiple wins and cascades to take place within a single game round.

Area Multiplier

The area multiplier can appear randomly on any main game spin. It is a box that surrounds a pre-determined number of grid positions and contains a multiplier value of either x2, x3, x5, x8, or x10. Any symbols within this box involved in a winning combination will have the value of the chosen multiplier applied to them.

Golden Bet

Players can toggle on the Golden Bet button, which will increase their base stake by 0.2x, increase the odds of landing the free spins feature, and increase the frequency of Area Multiplier activations.

Pop Cop Slot Bonus Features

Pop Cop Free Spins Feature
Pop Cop free spins feature

Four or more scatter symbols landing on the grid during any one spin will trigger the free spins feature, awarding ten spins. Any additional scatter symbols above the required four will award an extra five starting spins each.

Free Spins

During this bonus round, any Area Multiplier boxes that land will have an increased multiplier value, which can be x5, x10, x15, x20, or x50. Landing three or more scatter symbols on the screen during this feature will award an additional five free spins.

Bonus Buy

If in the relevant jurisdiction, players can choose to purchase the free spins bonus directly at the cost of 160x the current stake value. This will trigger the bonus with between 10 – 20 starting spins being awarded and operates at an RTP of 96.30%, slightly higher than the game average.

Pros

  • Reasonable maximum win and RTP level.
  • Cool Graphics and animation.
  • The Area Multiplier feature can give some good wins, particularly in the bonus.

Cons

  • Base game is slightly dry.
  • The game is not optimised for Western players.

Pop Cop Slot Review Final Thoughts

Pop Cop is certainly not a conventional game. That is immediately clear from its wild anime-style theme, and it just has a general feel about it of not being set up correctly for Western gamers, from the unreadable text style to the strange symbols that are used on the paytable. But after playing it for a while, it did grow on me slightly. There are some great animations incorporated, particularly within the bonus round, and the Area Multiplier can give some serious wins. Overall, it's not one I’ll be rushing back to, as there are better scatter pay slots out there, but lovers of anime may get a kick out of it.
