I think it’s fair to say this game is objectively beautiful – the background fills the entire window seamlessly, and the symbols appear as if they are floating on top without any boxes or borders. The result is a unique look that is colourful and attractive. That aside, this is a 25 pay line game with a 96.74% RTP, although the help file also makes mention of a “Jackpot Race” RTP of 1% – I think what they mean is that 1% of the RTP is allocated towards the game’s jackpots, as a 1% RTP would be outrageous in every possible way!
The game features an unusual “Wild Feature” whereby certain combinations of symbols can act together to expand other symbols and create stacked wilds, as well as a typical free spin-based bonus round. The free spins feature may be typical, but the triggering mechanism is not – you’ll need to collect corn symbols during the base game to activate it, which means you can be sure of triggering a bonus round if you continue playing long enough. Pumpkin Patch Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
The title of this game doesn’t leave much to the imagination regarding the theme. Unsurprisingly the backdrop is a pumpkin patch, but don’t expect a spooky Halloween style game – this is a cutesy slot and features naughty looking squirrels along with friendly flying insects, acorns, corn, and… a pipe? I’m a little confused about that last one, but I’m sure I must somehow miss the connection between these random symbols. Once again, I’m sure some readers will laugh at my inability to understand what is going on with all these random symbols, and if so, I’m glad I could give you a giggle!
I say we stick to what matters most – what are all these symbols worth?! There are two different wilds, one represented by the word “Wild” and another, which is a dancing pumpkin-headed creature … and look, he’s smoking a pipe! It’s all making sense now! Both wilds will pay you 40x your bet for a full payline of five-of-a-kind, whilst the highest-paying regular symbol is the pumpkin at 30x. The flying insect is worth 20x for all five, whilst the squirrel pays 18x, the pipe pays 10x, and the cob of corn is worth 6x your bet for five-of-a-kind. The lower half of the paytable includes six royal symbols, which pay between 1.6x and 4x for all five.
The wager selection aspect of the game is a little overcomplicated for my liking – you have a bet level control and a coin value control, which would be fine, except for the fact that increasing and decreasing the bet results in seemingly random intervals no matter what options you choose. For example, selecting the penny coin size and bet level one gives a minimum bet of €0.25, but the bet level control does not increase in single units, so you can’t bet €1.00 – it goes straight from €0.50 to €1.25. I guess it’s a minor annoyance, but I can’t understand why Habanero has chosen to do things this way. Setting all options to their highest value produces a maximum bet of €5000.00, which I highly doubt will be available in real money mode.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game is much more straightforward than the wager selection system, thankfully! It’s a 5×3 standard sized playfield with 25 paylines, and all wins are awarded for matching three or more symbols on a payline starting from the left side of the reels. There is a single base game modifier, called the “wild feature”, in the game’s paytable, along with two bonus features which we’ll explain in the following section.
Wild Feature
If the flying insect symbol appears next to a pumpkin symbol, the pumpkin will expand into a stacked wild symbol covering the entire reel it appears on before your winnings are calculated.
The squirrel symbol will also cause a wild expansion when it appears adjacent to a pumpkin symbol. Both symbols can appear simultaneously on rare occasions, creating multiple wild reels for huge payouts.
Pumpkin Patch Slot Bonus Features
There are two main bonus features in Pumpkin Patch – firstly, a progressive jackpot feature is included. One percent of the value of every spin goes towards building this jackpot,
Jackpot Feature
This is an unusual progressive jackpot feature as it operates in the form of a “Jackpot Race” that takes place at a scheduled time shown at the top of the game. The jackpot race runs for ten minutes, starting at the scheduled time, and all players who are spinning during this period have a shot at winning a prize in the race. There are eight winning positions in the jackpot race, but if less than eight players participate at the time each race takes place, any unclaimed prizes will be returned to the pool for distribution during the next race phase. I’m not sure how well this will work in practice – I guess it will depend on how popular this game turns out to be.
Free Games Feature
You can trigger the free games feature by hitting three pumpkin man symbols during the base game, but it can also be triggered by collecting corn symbols during the base game. In the top right corner of the game screen, you will see the number of free spins you have collected for your next bonus round, which always starts at eight. Collecting 30 corn symbols will automatically trigger the free games feature, meaning you will never go hundreds of spins without seeing a bonus round.
During the free spins feature, all wins are tripled, and you can also win additional free spins by collecting more corn symbols whilst the bonus round is in play. After each bonus round is completed, the free spin counter will reset back to eight.
Pumpkin Patch Slot Review Final Thoughts
Habanero has done its best to create a unique slot in Pumpkin Patch, and the result has worked well. I particularly appreciated the fact that you can trigger the free spins feature by collecting corn as well as by hitting the scatter symbols, ensuring that you will not spend an entire session without a bonus round. How well the jackpot feature will work remains to be seen, but this is a great slot that deserves to do well – why not give it a try yourself?
