I was playing another Gamebeat title just before this one – Buffalo Trail – and to say I felt a little bit of “déjà vu” when firing up Raging Lion for the first time would be something of an understatement. Both games employ a 6×4 playfield and 4,096 payways, but the two games’ RTP varies slightly at 96.14% for Raging Lion and a few percentage points less for Buffalo. Trail. Gamebeat has not listed a maximum win cap in the documentation for this game either, which suggests that the two games are not simply clones of one another; nevertheless, my first impressions of Raging Lion were still that this would make a great alternative game for fans of the Buffalo franchise of land-based slots to play at online casinos.
As far as features are concerned, the main event is a free spin-based bonus round triggered by 3-6 scatter symbols during the base game. This bonus round includes several extra tweaks and twists that aren’t available during regular play and can boost your winnings significantly, but it is all you get, unfortunately.

The animals featured in Buffalo Trail were all North American species. Still, Raging Lion takes you thousands of miles across the oceans to the African Savannah, where you will find lions, elephants, rhinos, zebras, and deer. The feel of the game is very similar overall – swapping out the animals featured on a few symbols doesn’t make that big a difference to me personally. Even so, if you enjoy playing slots that feature animals on the reels, then Raging Lion should be right up your street.
Regarding the paytable, the lion is at the top of the tree this time with a return of 7.5x your six-of-a-kind, followed by the elephant, which pays 6.25x for all six. The rhino pays identically to the elephant at 6.25x for six-of-a-kind, whilst the Zebra and the Deer both step it down slightly to 5x. The wild and scatter symbols do not have any payout of their own in the Raging Lion online slot, and whilst these numbers don’t seem overly impressive on their own, if you factor in that this is a game with 4,096 payways, then you can potentially begin to get a different impression. All symbols are stacked on the reels; although it does appear as if the picture symbols appear stacked less often than the lower-paying royals, at least the potential to win on many pay ways is there.
As far as the wager selection part of the game is concerned, there are ten choices which range from €0.40 to €40.00 per spin. I can’t help but feel as if the max bet on most online slots is extremely excessive, but €40.00 is relatively tame by some developer’s standards, so my only complaint would be that it would be nice to have a few extra choices towards the upper end of the scale.
Base Game & Modifiers
The Raging Lion video slot is a 6×4 reel game with 4,096 paylines, and all wins are paid for hitting three or more matching symbols from left-to-right. There aren’t any special features or modifiers included during the base game, but the main bonus round does seem to hit quite frequently, and I didn’t find myself becoming tired of the game in between bonus rounds despite spending several hours testing the game.

So, with the base game not offering much in the way of special features, it’s only reasonable that you will be looking forward to hearing what the bonus round has to offer. First of all, you can win 8, 15, 25, or even 100 free spins by hitting 3,4,5 or 6 scatter symbols, respectively, but this is just the beginning.
The free games feature adds 2x, 3x, and 5x multiplier wilds to the reels which do not appear during the base game. These symbols do not appear on the first reel but do multiply together if you should be lucky enough to hit more than one of them on a pay way during the same spin. Because of how pay ways games work, you should expect to win on many pay ways at once if you hit two more of these on a single spin.
You can also retrigger this bonus round by hitting scatters at the same rate described in the first paragraph of this section, with the addition of a five free spins reward for hitting just two scatter symbols during the bonus round.
Raging Lion Slot Review Final Thoughts
Raging Lion is a fantastic online slot, but I can’t help but feel that Gamebeat’s own Buffalo Trail is slightly superior in some ways, so I would probably seek out that game rather than this one.
