One minute, we’d be fighting over the smallest things, and the next, we’d be best buddies ready to take on the world, having each other’s backs. We’re fine now since we’ve matured, but that’s probably because we don’t see each other as often as we did back then. That could be what Thor and Loki need, a bit of distance between them, with just the odd email sent back and forth. Well, if they’re planning something like that, they’ll have to put it on the back burner for a bit as they’re back together in RagnaRavens WildEnergy, a new slot from Yggdrasil that is the second in the WildEnergy series after RagnaWolves. This new slot plays out over a 6×3 reel configuration that provides 729 ways to win thanks to paying both ways and is a highly volatile title offering a 10,000x max win and a 96% RTP.
Obviously, a second slot in any series will invite comparisons to the predecessor, and at first glance, RagnaRavens looks different due to more reels and more ways to win. However, for me, at least, that’s where the differences end, as the remaining features are almost identical to the first title. There are Multiplier Wilds, Countdown Wilds, Re-Spins, and a free spins bonus, while the max win of 10,000x is the same, and the RTP differs by just 0.1%.

Ragnaravens Wildenergy Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Before I put my magnifying glass over the gameplay, bonus features, and all the other bells and whistles of this slot, let me point you in the direction of some other Thor or Loki-inspired slots you can check out if you’re a fan of the two brothers. I reviewed Pragmatic Play’s Loki’s Riches a while back, and that’s a solid effort without being spectacular. It is a cluster pays slot offering special expanding symbols, a free spins bonus, and, similar to this title, a 10,000x max win. A better option, in my opinion, is Valhall Gold from Elk Studios, and not just because I’m a huge fan of the studio but because you can unlock up to 531,441 rows and enjoy a wide range of base game and free spins modifiers and features.
With those recommendations out the way, let’s realign our focus on RagnaRavens WildEnergy, starting with the symbols and what they can pay. These actually look pretty small, but then I guess that is because of the Wild symbols, multipliers and wilds that will ramp up the payouts. The Helmet is worth just 1.5x the stake for a full line of six, while the next best is the Shield, which pays 1.2x for a completed payline. The Axe and Spear are the remaining ‘high’ paying symbols, each paying 1x the bet. The four differently coloured Norse signs represent the low-paying symbols in the game and will all return 0.6x for a winning combo of six.
When you click the ‘coins’ button to change your spin bet, you’re greeted with 18 staking options ranging from €0.10 to €100. You’ll find several other bet sizes within this range, and I don’t see any issues for both low and high rollers finding a stake they are comfortable to play with.
Ragnaravens Wildenergy Slot Base Game
One of the main differences between this slot and RagnaWolves is that there are 729 ways to win compared to the 243 of the original, which is down to the Pays Both Ways mechanic. Wins not only come when you line up three or more matching symbols from left to right but also from right to left. As standard, those symbol combinations must start from the leftmost or rightmost reels and move along successive reels. As for the base game features and modifiers, much of what you see here has come straight from the first slot in the series, and that means re-spins, countdown wilds, and multiplier wilds.
Raven Multiplier Wild Symbols
Wild symbols offer the main excitement during the base game and, of course, the free spins bonus, as they can generate re-spins and combine to create impressive win multipliers. Raven Multiplier Wilds are one of two wilds in the game, and these can only land on the second and fifth reels. If they help to create a winning combo, the Multiplier Wild Symbols remain locked while the remaining reels are given a re-spin. Those re-spins will continue as long as the wild symbols continue to create winning combinations, and as this occurs, the multiplier of the wilds increases by 1x each time up to a maximum of 5x. If there are Raven multiplier wilds on both the second and fifth reels, they each increase the win multiplier for that spin by 1x, while any Countdown Wilds on the two middle reels will also increase that win multiplier.
Countdown Wild Symbols
The respins fun continues with Countdown Wilds, represented by Thor and Loki, with the former only appearing on the third reel and the latter on the fourth. These will also trigger respins when they play their part in a winning combo, and once they do, they remain in place for a set number of re-spins as displayed on the symbols themselves.

Anytime you land three or four scatter symbols anywhere on the reels in the base game, the bonus round will be triggered, and you’ll be duly rewarded with seven and ten free spins, respectively.

How do the free spins play out differently from regular spins? Not by much, but the multiplier value created by the Multiplier Wilds does not reset between spins, which obviously gives you the chance to build up a nice multiplier for the later spins. One shame is that you cannot re-trigger the free spins bonus from within, as there are no scatter symbols on the reels during this bonus.

Ragnaravens Wildenergy Slot Review Final Thoughts
While I had a good time spinning away on RagnaRavens, there were a few negatives that continued to nag at me. It’s a great slot that is deserving of the score I’ve given, but aside from more ways to win, I just felt there wasn’t too much in this title that we didn't already see in RagnaWolves. Even the max win of 10,000x is the same. You’d expect the second slot in any series to offer something different from the original, but sadly, in this case, that has not happened. Something else I’d have hoped for was a little more to differentiate the free spins bonus from the base game spins aside from the multiplier not resetting between spins.
