Raiders of Fortune uses the common “rolling reels” payout mechanic, labelled “Trail Ways” by SG Gaming. Trail Ways is a little more than your average cascading symbols feature, however; as well as enabling you to win multiple times per paid spin, each consecutive win will gain a new modifier indicated by the trail displayed on the left of the main reel set. Make it to the top of the trail, and you win a batch of free spins. Furthermore, once you make it to the free spins bonus round, a new trail is activated with even more generous modifiers.

Raiders Of Fortune Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
I’m not entirely convinced that the background of Raiders of Fortune suits the title of the game, but perhaps that is just because I was expecting something more… well, Indiana Jones. Don’t get me wrong, it looks pretty, but a little animation would have gone a long way towards making this game feel more professional. The quality of the symbol graphics is top-notch, however, and the animation is beautifully smooth. Once again though, I can’t help but feel that the items represented on the symbols don’t quite gel with the Raiders theme. It all feels a little incoherent, but we don’t play slots for their wonderful storylines or consistent themes – we play them to win money! How does Raiders of Fortune score on that front? Let’s find out …
Before we start talking numbers, can I just say that SG Gaming is one of the rare breeds of developers who list their payouts in terms of multiples of your stake – I wish all developers would do this, as it’s even more convenient than coding the paytable to reflect changes in the current wager. A golden emblem is the highest-paying symbol and pays 20x your bet for a full pay line of six-of-a-kind, followed by Indie, who must indeed have been slightly miffed not to take the top spot on the table! A full pay line of his symbol is worth 15x your bet, whilst his pocket watch will pay you 10x for all six. The final two high-paying symbols are the knife and map combo and the gun worth 8x for a complete pay line. The wild symbol has no payout of its own, and there are no scatters to be found on the paytable as the bonus round is triggered by the trail ways system rather than traditional scatter symbols.
The demo version of the Raiders of Fortune slot game has a minimum bet of €0.40 and a maximum bet of €400.00 per round. I suspect the maximum bet in real money mode will be much lower than this, especially at smaller online casinos. Still, I would never recommend anybody spins a slot at that kind of level, regardless.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game utilises a 6×4 playfield, a common size, but many games which use a large grid such as this opt for pay ways rather than pay lines. The base game utilises 40 payways as standard, but this can be increased to 60 by means of the trail feature later.
You will progress one step up the trail each time you score a win. The trail has seven segments, each with a different enhancement that will boost your chances of winning more on the following spin. The seven segments on the base game trail are described below.
Trail Ways
The first time you score a win and the symbols are removed from the reels; you will move to the first step on the trail shown to the left of the reel set. With each subsequent win, you will progress one more step up the trail. The seven steps are as follows:
- One wild will be randomly added to the reels
- Three additional wilds will be randomly added to the reels
- The reels will expand to a 6×6 configuration, with 20 new pay lines
- A “colossal wild” of 2×2 or 3×3 will be randomly added to the reels
- A 5x multiplier will be applied to this and subsequent wins.
- Between two and five more wild symbols will be added to the reels
- The free games feature is awarded.
If you continue to win again after you reach the seventh step of the trail, you will win one free spin for every additional winning combination before the start of the free games feature.
Raiders Of Fortune Slot Bonus Features
I found it quite tough to make it to the top of the trail and trigger the free spins feature, but when I did, I was excited to find out what new features would appear on the new trail. Apart from the updated trail, the bonus round plays exactly like the regular base game.
You will typically start the feature with seven free spins, but if you score any additional wins after reaching the last step of the trail, you can potentially begin your bonus round with extra free spins. I managed to get a ten-spin bonus round on one occasion out of the five bonus rounds I played, with the remaining four being standard seven-spin features.
Free Spins Feature
During this mode, the trail ways of the base game are replaced with a brand-new set, with the following enhancements:
- Three wilds will be randomly added to the reels
- Bonus round multiplier increases by 1x, plus one wild added to the reels
- Reel expansion feature – the grid grows to 6×6 with 60 paylines
- The “colossal wild” feature activates, adding a 2×2 or 3×3 wild to the reels
- Bonus round multiplier increases by 3x
- Random wild modifier activates, adding up to five wilds to the reels
- Bonus round multiplier increases by 1x, plus two extra free spins awarded.
If you continue to win past the seven steps on the trail in this mode, you will win one extra free spin for every additional cascade and a 1x multiplier increase. I had hoped that your position on the trail would be held between spins during this feature, but sadly that is not the case.
Raiders Of Fortune Slot Review Final Thoughts
This is a unique online slot of sorts – the feature set is quite unlike any other game I have played, which is rare nowadays. Full credit to SG Gaming for making an effort to create a truly innovative new online slot in these days of endless clones and Megaways games. Perhaps some other developers will follow SG Gaming’s example by making some more truly original games if this slot does well. For me, that’s reason enough to recommend everybody give this machine a try.
