I’ve always liked the presentation of Quickspin’s games; I especially appreciate the high-quality feel of the graphics and animation whilst still having a different look to games created by other first-tier developers. Their Raven Rising video slot is a new 20 fixed pay line game with a Viking / Norse mythology theme. The RTP is just above average at 96.07%, and whilst there is no mention of a maximum win or winnings cap anywhere in the help files or paytable, I found a figure of 6,804x the bet which was achieved during a one billion spin run.
This is another rolling reels style game, labelled “tumbling reels” by QuickSpin, meaning that you can win several times from a single paid spin. There is an ascending multiplier feature as well as a free spin bonus round with an upgrade gamble wheel. Those lucky enough to live in a jurisdiction where bonus buy features are permitted can bypass the base game and go straight to the higher-paying bonus round if you wish.

Norse mythology and Thor have been common themes in the online slots industry ever since Microgaming’s first Thunderstruck game almost twenty years ago. The classic machine eventually received a sequel – imaginatively titled Thunderstruck II – which built on the already popular game and elevated the franchise to the status of all-time classic. Many developers have tried their hand at recapturing the magic of Thunderstruck with varied success. Could Quickspin be the one to match the success of Thunderstruck? It’s a tall order, but if anybody could do it, I have faith in this developer to be the one!
Let’s start by looking at the paytable; the wild symbol sits at the top of the list with a return of 125x your bet for a full payline of five-of-a-kind. The regular symbols begin with Odin, who pays 75x your stake for all five of his symbols, whilst Freyja will reward you with 50x. Thor’s Hammer is worth 25x for all five of those, whilst Odin’s Axe completes the picture symbols with a return of 10x for five-of-a-kind. There are four low-paying royal symbols which pay between 5x and 1.25x for full lines of those – nothing too exciting there, but it’s better than nothing!
As a 20-pay line game, it isn’t surprising to see a minimum wager of €0.20 per round, whilst the maximum of €100.00 should be enough for even the highest of high rolling players.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game of Raven Rising takes place on a standard 5×3 playfield with 20 fixed paylines. This is a tumbling reels game, so all winning combinations will be removed from the reels immediately, allowing new symbols to fall into view to create new winning combinations. Each time a win is removed, the current multiplier will increase by 1x and will only reset the next time you make a paid spin.
QuickSpin often includes a base game modifier or two, but the developer has chosen to omit this in Raven Rising. Despite this, I never became tired of the base game while testing the slot.
Raven Rising Slot Bonus Features
With no modifiers or base game features, it feels as if Quickspin have some ground to make up with their free spins feature. You’ll need to hit three or more raven scatter symbols to trigger the bonus round, with three scatters awarding seven free spins, four awarding 10 spins, and the maximum five scatters awarding 15 free spins.
Ragnarok Gamble Feature
Before the free spins feature begins, you will be shown the Ragnarok gamble wheel, which allows you to gamble your bonus round for a chance to win additional scatters and, therefore, extra free spins. You can choose to gamble until you have the maximum of 15 free spins or until you lose the entire bonus round.
Free Spins Feature
During this mode, the ascending multiplier will not reset between spins, allowing you to get up to some crazy win multipliers if you are lucky and win lots of times from each of your spins.
You can also re-trigger the bonus round by hitting three or more scatter symbols again whilst the feature is in play. Three will add 3 more free spins to your counter, 4 will give you an extra five spins or all 5 will add seven additional free spins.
Bonus Buy Feature
For a cost of 100x the regular bet, you can skip the base game and go directly to the free spins feature. The number of triggering scatters will be randomly determined, but I never saw more than three scatters land when I tested this game’s feature. I think 100x is a fair price for this feature and would definitely use this option if it was available in my market.
Raven Rising Slot Review Final Thoughts
I don’t think Raven Rising will become an all-time classic, but it’s still a solid slot that looks fantastic and pays just as well. A couple more features or modifiers would have helped this game stand out a bit more, but the free spins feature is a good one, and I have no hesitation in recommending you give this slot a try.
