Razor Ways slot theme, stakes, pays & symbols
All the slots in the Razor Shark series share plenty of similarities, but in the case of this latest release, Razor Ways, it is the first to move away from regular paylines to the ways to win mechanic, and it also has expanding rows, something neither of the first two offered. Additionally, the original Razor Shark has a maximum win of 50,000x the stake, Razor Returns doubled that up to 100,000x, and now Razor Ways has reduced it to 25,000x. That is slightly odd, as the Razor Shark series was previously known for its highly volatile action that could result in massive payouts.
Speaking of payouts, let’s see what the Razor Ways paytable has in store for us. The Red Shark sits at the top with a 5x the stake return for six matching symbols across consecutive reels. The Purple Shark delivers up to 3x, the Green and Blue Sharks both reward a maximum of 2.5x, and the Diving Helmet, Flippers, and Compass round out the premium symbols and all share a 1x the stake max win. Finally, we get to the lower-value symbols, which are the Red, Purple, Green, and Blue Starfish symbols, all with equal returns of 0.5x for a six of a kind win.
We conclude this section with the betting range that can be found on Razor Ways, with the options available mirroring the previous two releases. Players can choose to spin from a minimum of €0.10 up to a maximum of €100.
Razor Ways slot base game and modifiers
The Razor Ways slot has six reels and between 3 to 6 rows, depending on how a spin progresses. Initially, with a 6×3 configuration, there are 729 ways to win, but these can increase to a maximum of 46,656 should all rows unlock. Winning combinations are created when three or more matching regular symbols land on consecutive reels starting from the leftmost reel.
Cascading reels & expanding rows
The symbols in winning combinations are removed from the reels, allowing a cascade to occur. New symbols drop in from above and tumble down to fill the vacant positions left behind, potentially creating additional winning combinations.
Whenever a winning cascading occurs, there is an instant prize win, and one of the locked rows will unlock. It’s possible to unlock up to 3 rows and up to 46,565 ways to win. During the base game, the rows reset to default at the start of a new spin.
Wilds & expanding wilds
Three types of wild symbols can land on the reels of the Razor Ways slot:
- Regular Wild Symbols: This will substitute for all regular symbols when winning combinations are possible.
- Expanding Wild Symbols: When this lands during the base game, it will expand to cover all unlock positions on its reel. It can also hold a win multiplier of 2x, 3x, or 5x, which applies to wins it helps to create.
- Convertor into Wild Symbol: When this lands, it spins through and randomly selects one of the regular paying symbols. All instances of that symbol and the convertor transform into wild symbols.
Mystery symbols
When Mystery Symbols land anywhere on the reels, they will reveal one of the following:
- Regular paying symbols
- Any of the above wild symbols
- Golden Shark symbols (Razor Reveal & Free Spins)
Razor Ways slot bonus features
There are two bonus games to aim for in the Razor Ways slot, the Razor Reveal Feature and a Free Spins Bonus game. There are also numerous Push Bet and Bonus Buy options available, all of which we’ll cover in the next part of our review.
Razor reveal feature
The Mystery Reveal feature triggers when three or more Mystery symbols land on consecutive reels during a base game spin. All unlocked rows carry over, and the Mystery symbols transform into Golden Sharks, which spin through and stop on one of the following symbols:
- Instant Prize Symbols: These hold prizes as a stake multiplier of 1x, 2x, 5x, 10x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 250x, 500x, 1,000x, 2,500x, and 5,000x.
- Multiplier Symbols: These will hold a multiplier value of 2x, 3x, 5x, and 10x. All instant prizes currently collected are multiplied by that value.
- Collector Symbols: This will collect and remove all the values currently on the reels and hold the combined value of all until the end of the feature. All empty positions will now transform into Golden Sharks and again roll through to reveal a new symbol.
- Converter Symbols: This will scroll through all the regular symbols currently on the unlocked rows. All instances of the chosen symbol will turn into Golden Sharks and reveal new special symbols.
- Bonus Scatter Symbols: The free spins bonus is triggered if three or more of these are revealed during the Razor Reveal feature.
- Row Unlocker Symbols (only during the bonus buy): This unlocks the next row up and turns all symbols into Golden Sharks. They then spin through to reveal new special symbols.
Free spins feature
You will trigger the free spins bonus whenever three or more bonus scatter symbols appear anywhere in view during the base game or the Razor Returns feature.
- 3 Scatters: You start with 6 free spins and a 1x total win multiplier on a 6×3 unlocked grid.
- 4 Scatters: You start with 8 free spins and a 3x total win multiplier on a 6×4 unlocked grid.
- 5 Scatters: You start with 10 free spins and a 5x total win multiplier on a 6×5 unlocked grid.
- 6 Scatters: You start with 10 free spins and a 10x total win multiplier on a 6×6 unlocked grid.
During this bonus, Glowing Mystery Symbols may land, and they generally function the same as regular Mystery Symbols. However, they’re also collected in a meter to the side of the reels which could result in you unlocking the multiplier and unlocked reels of the higher free spins bonuses. Each level requires the collection of five of these symbols.
Push bet features
You will find three Push Bet options you can consider when using the Coins button to configure your spin bet.
- Scatter Push Bet: For 140% on top of your current spin bet, you can increase the chances of landing bonus scatter symbols.
- Mystery Symbols Push Bet: For 300% on top, you can spin with the guarantee that at least two mystery symbols will land on the reels.
- Mystery and Scatter Push Bet: You can spin with all the benefits above for 400% on top of your current spin bet.
Bonus buy
Alternatively, in the Bonus Buy feature, you can buy the slot’s different features and bonuses directly:

There’s no denying there have been some significant changes to the gameplay of Razor Ways, and adding payways instead of using paylines like its previous releases has undoubtedly given the Razor Shark franchise a new lease of life.
I’m slightly disappointed that the winning potential has dropped significantly, but overall, the more enjoyable gameplay offsets this. To wrap things up, I can say with confidence that this is one of the better slots I’ve reviewed in 2024 and a title I highly recommend you try out.
