Game Overview
I’ve reviewed several slots from Synot Games recently, and for the most part, they’ve been classic-style slots that offer few features. However, I think it’s about time we see what else the studio has up its sleeves, and we’re about to find out as Realm of Lions is a modern style slot with a Hold & Win bonus, four fixed jackpots, and a buy bonus feature. It is played across a 5×4 reel configuration comprising 25 fixed paylines, an 96.12% RTP, and a 3,000x the stake maximum win.
The Hold & Win feature is similar to what we’ve seen from many other slots. You receive 3 resettable re-spins to try and collect cash prize symbols worth up to 18x the stake or jackpot symbols delivering 20x, 50x, or 100x. However, bonus collect symbols can collect all values in view and hold that combined cash prize themselves, while an interesting touch is the Bonus Up symbols. They will remove the lowest-value cash prizes from the reels, meaning more winning potential as the bonus game progresses.
So, if you’d like to learn more about this intriguing Synot Games release, you’re in the right place. Make sure to read our full review of the slot before giving it a whirl via the Realm of Lions slot demo below.
theme, stakes, pays & symbols
The title gives a clue to the overriding theme of the Realm of Lions slot, which is a Safari featuring the most feared big cats and other beasts such as Elephants, Zebras, and Rhinos. Admittedly, it is nothing unique, as there are dozens, if not more, slots that have gone with wild animals as the main focus. You only have to check out our Safari Slots page to find numerous others, including Safari Gold Megaways from Blueprint Gaming and Play’n Go’s Safari of Wealth. I will say that while the theme is slightly lazy, the presentation is definitely of a good standard.
Are the symbol payouts of a high standard, too? I’ll let you be the judge of that, as the best 5-symbol payout is 10x the stake returned by the Wild symbols. Next, we have both the Rhino and Elephant delivering up to 8x and the Zebra and Kudu rounding off the premiums with a top return of 4x. The playing card symbols offer the smaller rewards on the reels, with the Ace and King both returning up to 2x, and the Queen, Jack, and Ten worth a maximum of 1x.
Before spinning the reels on Realm of Lions, the first thing you must do is set your stake. You can choose from a good number of betting options between the low-roller-friendly €0.10 per spin minimum and a maximum of €80.00.
Base Game & Modifiers
The Realm of Lions slot uses a 5×4 reel layout offering 25 fixed paylines. To land wins, a spin must reveal three or more matching symbols across a payline starting from the leftmost reel.
Gamble
Synot Games regularly adds gamble features to its slot games, and there is another to consider when playing Realm of Lions. You can gamble any wins, even those won from the Hold & Win feature. If you correctly guess the colour of the next playing card, you’ll double your winnings. You can do this up to ten times, assuming you get lucky enough to get that far. A single wrong guess will lose all you’d previously won.
Realm of Lions slot bonus features
During the base game, instant Prize symbols holding values as a multiplier of the stake can land anywhere in view. However, they do not mean anything until the Hold & Win bonus game, which triggers when six or more land as a result of a base game spin.
Hold & Win Bonus
Once the required number of instant cash symbols land, the Hold & Win bonus triggers. During this feature, only the following symbols can land:
- Instant Prize Symbols: 1x, 2x, 4x, 5x, 8x, 10x, 12x, 15x, 16x, 18x.
- Jackpot Symbols: Mini (20x), Minor (50x), Major (100x).
- Bonus Collector Symbols: These collect all values of the symbols in view and becomes a regular instant prize symbol holding that combined value.
- Bonus Up Symbol: This removes the lowest value Instant Prize symbol from the reels.
- Blanks: These do nothing.
The triggering Instant Prize Symbols carry over from the base game, and you’re given 3 re-spins of the reels. Each time a new bonus symbol lands as a result of a re-spin, those re-spins are reset back to 3. Once that counter reaches zero, the bonus game ends, and you’re awarded the combined value of all bonus symbols as a multiplier of your stake.
Bonus Buy
You can attempt to trigger the Hold & Win bonus game naturally via the base game or use the buy bonus feature to purchase it for 100x the current stake.
Pros
- The Hold & Win bonus game has a couple of elements you’ll not commonly find elsewhere.
- Nice graphics and well presented.
Cons
- The maximum win of 3,000x might not be as appealing as other slots in the safari niche.
Realm of Lions Slot Review Final Thoughts
The theme of Realm of Lions may not be the most original, but Synot Games has executed it perfectly, making it an excellent addition to a crowded genre of slots. Does it have enough to stand out from the competition? I think it does. The graphics are very good, the Hold & Win bonus is entertaining, and whilst the max win could be better, I don't think there are many of us who would turn our noses up at a jackpot of 3,000x.
