Red Hot Luck (Pragmatic Play) Slot Demo & Review

Have you ever experienced such good luck that you’d consider it red hot? I mean, winning €10,000 from a scratchcard I’d consider lucky, but winning, as somebody did recently, €38.5 million playing a WowPot progressive jackpot slot is nothing short of out-of-this-world luck and would definitely fall under red hot. Well, Pragmatic Play’s Red Hot Luck, featuring the unique PowerPays mechanic, is a 7-reel, 7-row, and Cluster Pays slot with an RTP of 96.08% and a max win of 5,000x that relies on plenty of luck. That’s because traditional payouts have been replaced by a points system, whereby spin points increase after each winning combination lands on a spin. I’ll get into that in more detail later on in this review.

Points mean prizes, which means the aim is to accrue as many of them as possible on each spin. Single-winning combinations will not count for much on Red Hot Luck. However, rack up a handful of combinations thanks to the Tumble Feature, and throw some multiplier scatters into the mix, and you could build up some major win multipliers. Better yet, manage that in the free spins bonus, and you could have a nice-sized global multiplier to add on top!

Is the PowerPays mechanic something you’ll enjoy? Well, instead of the hassle of signing into online casino accounts to find out, you might as well just play the Red Hot Luck slot demo below.

While the Red Hot Luck slot title might, for obvious reasons, suggest this is a luck-themed slot, it’s not. In fact, once you open the slot, you’ll see an erupting volcano to the left of the reels and lots of different coloured gems on them. Finding gems is lucky, I guess, but being anywhere near a volcano eruption has to be classed as the opposite. If you did come here expecting something luck-themed to play, I suggest you opt for Irish slot titles such as 9 Pots of Gold from Gameburger Studios or AvatarUX’s Pop o’ Gold, with the latter in particular offering some fantastic features and mechanics you could get lucky from.

While luck seemingly has little to do with Red Hot Luck aside from its title, I’m sure you’ll be hoping to get lucky once the symbols and their payouts start rolling in. As mentioned earlier, and as you’ll learn more about shortly, payouts work differently on this latest title from Pragmatic Play. Symbol combinations give you points rather than payouts; at the end of the spin, the total number of points is converted into a payout. The Red Gem rewards the most points, with its best payout of 2,450 points coming when 49 of the symbols land in a combination on the reels. For the same number of symbols, the Green and Blue Gems pay 1,960 points and 1,470 points, respectively. The Ace pays up to 1,225 points, the King is worth up to 908, and the Queen and Jack will pay a maximum of 735 and 490.

In true Pragmatic Play style, you’re given plenty of staking options when spinning the reels of Red Hot Luck. At the lower end of the scale, you can bet a minimum of €0.20 per spin, while the maximum bet allowed is €240.00.

Before I break down the PowerPlays mechanic, let me take you through the reel format, reel mechanic, and what you need to do to create wins. First, Red Hot Luck is a slot game that takes place across a 7×7 grid. As for the mechanic, this slot uses the famous cluster pays mechanic, which requires symbol combinations to land in clusters rather than across paylines. A winning cluster is any 5 or more matching symbols connected horizontally or vertically, no matter where they are on the reels.

Pragmatic’s tumble Feature also returns, which plays a big part in generating the sizable payouts you’ll no doubt look for. Winning symbols are removed from the reels, creating space for new symbols to land and potentially create other winning combinations.

Powerplays

I have mentioned how the symbol combinations now earn points rather than payouts. If you look to the right of the reels, you’ll see two counters, one that keeps track of the points earned on that spin and another that displays the current multiplier of your stake that you’ll win. Both will increase as you continue to land symbol combinations throughout the spin. Once the spin ends, the points convert to a multiplier, which you win. As you’ll see on the paytable on Red Hot Luck, there’s a long list that describes the points and how much they’re worth as a payout. Rather than list that here, I’ll tell you that at least 50 points will secure the lowest payout of 0.2x your stake, while 10,000+ will net you the maximum of 100x.

Scatter Symbols

10,000 blooming points just for 100x? I know that’s what a lot of you are saying. However, there’s another element that plays an integral part in the PowerPlays mechanic, and that is the scatter symbol. When this symbol lands, it will not disappear after a winning combination like the others. It can also have a multiplier value of between 2x and 500x. That multiplier is applied to your total win multiplier for that spin. On top of that, the values of multiple scatter symbols will also stack up, so you can see there is potential for creating some big win multipliers.

Red Hot Luck Slot Bonus Features

Landing four or more of those scatters will also trigger the Red Hot Luck free spins bonus, which is the only bonus game that can be activated on the slot.

Free Spins

Once the triggering spin is complete and you’ve received your winnings, you receive 10 free spins of the reels. The significant difference between the spins during this bonus and the base game is that there’s now a global progressive multiplier. Each time a scatter symbol lands with a multiplier value and the spin results in a win, that value is added to the global multiplier. The global multiplier applies to payouts on all future spins.

Bonus Buy

You can enjoy the fun of the free spins bonus whenever you like by using the Buy Bonus feature. The only catch is it will cost 100x your current stake to purchase it.

Pros

  • The PowerPlays mechanic offers something new.
  • Scatter symbols up the payout potential massively.

Cons

  • The theme lacks, well, a theme.

Red Hot Luck Slot Review Final Thoughts

I’ve given Pragmatic Play plenty of grief in the past for developing a lot of clones or slots that offer little difference from previous titles. However, once in a while, the developer shows it can produce something different. Red Hot Luck is one such title, and while I'm not convinced the PowerPlays mechanic will catch on, this slot is at least unique.
