The new Red Hot Sapphires online slot from provider Infinity Dragon Studios is essentially a ten-line adaptation of an older game titled “6 Rubies of Fortune”, as far as I can tell. It’s going to be up to individual players to determine if these adaptations suit their style of play or not – for me, this is the superior title, without a doubt. Ten fixed paylines, a 96.24% RTP, and a maximum jackpot of 6,000x your bet… tasty statistics, wouldn’t you agree?
And the features? Let’s start with the “Link and Win” feature, a three-spin bonus round that has the potential to win up to 1,300x your bet; I think this is related to the jackpots shown to the left of the reel set. However, the biggest prize listed there is only 1,000x your stake, so I’m not 100% sure what the deal is with that. One or two generous base game modifiers break up the standard gameplay in between bonus rounds, and once you do find yourself in that elusive free spins feature, then you’ll be all the happier to see that those same modifier win-boosters are permanently enabled in that part of the game!

Red Hot Sapphires Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
With a name like “Red Hot Sapphires”, I expected to see yet another machine filled with fruits, lucky sevens, bells, and bars… I’m disappointed I was pretty much on the money with that guess. I wish developers would come up with some new ideas for their slots more often – these cherries, plums, and lemons are getting a little bit tiresome for this avid discipline of online slot machines. On the plus side, it does look great, the animation is perfectly executed, and the sound… well, it isn’t instantly annoying, but that’s about as excited as I can be on that side of things. Still, if the fruity slot theme appeals to you, this is an excellent example of the genre. However, there is no escaping from the fact that it is just the latest game to employ a thoroughly worn-out style that should have been retired over a decade ago.
Let’s go back to the positives now – I think I have done far too much ranting on the fruit-themed slot topic in previous reviews. The wild tops off the paytable and has a somewhat disappointing return of only 10x your stake for each full pay line consisting of five-of-a-kind. That is a perfectly acceptable figure for a game with 243 ways, but for a ten-line machine? I think there must be far more going on here than meets the eye – we’re never going to get anywhere near the stated 6,000x jackpot with those sorts of wins, are we? Lucky sevens take the silver podium spot at 5x for all five, whilst the BAR takes the bronze at 3x your bet.
A dollar sign pays 2.5x for five-of-a-kind, but the highest-paying fruit symbol (the lemon) has an identical return too. I’d assumed the fruit were the lower-paying half of the paytable, but that assumption turned out to make an a*s of well… me, and me. Five royals make up the bottom half of the paytable, all of which pay 1.5x per line except for the Aces, which are slightly better at 2x.
Your wagering options start at €0.10 per round, maxing out at €50.00 for the high rollers in the crowd. The range is nice and wide, but with only ten intervals in between those two extremes, there may well be some players who are frustrated by the €10, €20, and €50 options that take up the high-end. If you are going to allow bets of that size, at least let players choose increments in €5.00 steps!
Base Game & Modifiers
I was expecting the base game to be pretty average – I mean, we have a 5×3 playfield with ten paylines; how interesting could it be? Quite a lot, actually! In addition to the regular paytable wins discussed in the previous section, the Epic Strike feature allows you to win huge prizes in the regular base game! Here’s how it works:
Epic Strike
Land five or more Epic Strike symbols to win cash from the bonus ladder shown on the left of the main reel set. Five symbols aren’t very exciting. However – you only receive your wager back for that combination. Hit nine or more Epic Strike symbols, however, and you will receive 500x your stake – now that’s much more like it!
Bank’em Wilds With Multipliers
Here’s something else you don’t see every day – Red Hot Sapphires is played in ten round batches, and you can see which spin you are currently on from the meter shown in the bottom-right corner of the screen. During spins one through nine, any Epic Strike symbols that land on the screen will leave behind a Bank’em Wilds frame that will persist until the end of the current ten round session. On the 10th spin of each batch, all the frames you have accumulated will transform into wilds, which even substitute for the all-important Epic Strike symbol, too!
If you land an Epic Strike symbol inside a Bank’em Wilds frame, an additional 1x multiplier will be added to the current ten-round session. For example, if you catch five Epic Strike symbols inside a Bank’em Wilds frame during your ten-spin session, all winnings collected during those ten spins will be multiplied by 5x.
This is a cool and innovative feature – but also a slightly sneaky way to convince players to keep playing until the end of each ten-spin batch. And if you win more than you paid for those ten spins when the counter resets to one, well, there’s no reason not to play the next session, too, is there?
You have to hand it to these slots’ developers – they sure know what they are doing!
Red Hot Sapphires Slot Free Spins Feature
Wrapping up the feature set of Red Hot Sapphires, we have a regular free spin bonus round triggered by hitting the three scatters that appear on reels one, three, and five only.
Starting with ten free spins and four Bank’Em Wild frames that are pre-positioned on the reels, you effectively get a free ten-spin session as described in the base game section above. A key difference with this mode is that the frames will always turn wild at the end of each spin regardless of what symbol is shown inside the frame, making it much easier to hit completed pay lines in this part of the game.
You can even re-trigger this feature, adding an additional ten spin session to your remaining counter.
