Reel Em’ In A Bit Fishy Slot (SG Gaming) Slot Demo & Review

Fishing! It’s the hottest theme in slots right now for some reason. I can only guess that big-name franchises such as Big Bass Bonanza and Fishin’ Frenzy are raking in such vast amounts of cash that other developers are seeing dollar signs and trying to steal a piece of that sweet, sweet, fishy action! Light & Wonder’s entry into the crowded fishing-themed slots scene is named Reel’em In! A Bit Fishy! This certainly is not the most original name in town, but hey, I’m sure it will do just fine. As for the stats, we have 729 paylines, a respectable RTP of 95.92% and a maximum win of 8,259x bet. Not too shabby at all.

Feature-wise, Reel’em In! includes a couple of base game modifiers triggered by two special symbols – the fishing rod and the electric eel. The rod enables you to catch super-valuable fish, whilst the electric eel is a growing wild that also boosts your winnings by a multiplier of up to 4x. There’s a free spins bonus available, too, awarding between eight and 15 free spins depending on the triggering combination. The “Buy Pass” button allows you to purchase a free spins bonus with a random number of spins.

Come on then, guys, time to grab your rod and your deck chair for some more fishy fun! Fire up our free demo slot of Reel’em In! A Bit Fishy! Below, you know you have to.

Just what is the fascination amongst slot developers and fishing nowadays? It isn’t just the two big name franchises I mentioned earlier (Big Bass Bonanza and Fishin’ Frenzy) – there are dozens of other games available too, featuring such amusing and creative names as “The Rodfather Megaways” and “Fish Upon a Cashpot” – you have to give them 10/10 for effort, at the very least! Whenever a market becomes as saturated as this one, however, it is always going to be challenging to make your game stand out from the crowd. With that in mind, let’s check out the paytable of Light & Wonder’s new game to find out if it’s more than just another fish in the sea.

Starting from the top, the anchor is the highest-paying regular symbol with a return of 10x your bet for each full payway of six-of-a-kind. A life ring is next, sporting a value of 8x the current stake for every full set of six of those you manage to hook. Your trusty fishing hat is worth a respectable 5x the bet for a full payway, as is an old-school fishing net – for those who don’t care for those new-fangled “rods”. The remainder of the paytable consists of four royals with values of either 3x or 1.5x the bet for six-of-a-kind. Unfortunately, the wild and scatter symbols do not pay, but there are the “cash fish” to consider, which can be collected when the rod symbol appears. These have values of 50x, 25x, 10x, or 5x your bet, making them much more valuable than any of the normal line hits.

Wagering options start at a low-roller-friendly €0.10 per spin, with plenty of small steps offered between there and the maximum bet of €20.00 per round. High-rollers may be disappointed with the lower-than-average top bet, but these options should cover most players.

Base Game & Modifiers

Reel Em' In A Bit Fishy Slot Base Game
Reel Em’ In A Bit Fishy slot base game

The base game uses a slightly extended playfield of six reels of three rows each. This is actually quite an unusual configuration – many games that add a sixth reel will also add a fourth row as well. This is the reason for the unusual number of payways offered here – 729, resulting from a standard 243-way playfield being stretched out one reel and tripling the number of available ways.

Fish Reel & Cash Fish

The “Fish Reel” can be seen underneath the regular reel set and occupies only four positions, similar to how many Megaways slots add an extra four-wide horizontal reel along the top of their grids.

The fish reel can contain cash fish symbols, swordfish, or electric eels. At the start of each spin, the fish reel will move horizontally by one position. If a fishing rod appears above a symbol on the fish reel, you will hook the corresponding prize and be awarded either a cash value or a modifier.

Electric Eel

The electric eel is a special wild symbol that will expand to cover the entire reel where it appears. Any wins that include electric eel symbols will also be boosted by a random multiplier of up to 4x. In very rare situations, it is possible to hit two electric eels at once, causing your win to be multiplied by the product of both multipliers.

Reel Em’ In A Bit Fishy Slot Bonus Features

Reel Em' In A Bit Fishy Slot Free Spins Feature

The main bonus round is a free spin feature with one unique aspect – you can trigger it using both bonus scatter symbols or by hooking a swordfish with the rod symbol. If you hit both scatter symbols and a swordfish simultaneously, the game will award you a boosted number of free spins.

Free Spins

In this mode, you are awarded between 8 and 15 free spins with a new modifier – the shark wild. The shark seems to appear on most bonus spins, but not all of them, and will transform a random number of positions into wild symbols.

The paytable states that it is possible to transform up to five entire reels into wild symbols, and whilst I did not see quite as many as that during my testing, I did sometimes receive a significant number of shark wilds.

Unfortunately, the shark wild can also transform many positions into wilds that will not cause you to hit any winnings. This can be very frustrating, especially as the shark takes its sweet time adding those wilds to the grid!

Bonus Buy

Finally, if you want to bypass the base game and go straight to the shark wild action, you can pay 51x the regular cost per spin to purchase a bonus round. This is certainly a fair price, but the number of spins received cannot be selected; most of the time, you can be sure of receiving only the minimum of eight free spins.

Reel Em’ In A Bit Fishy Slot Review Final Thoughts

What can we say? It’s a solid game with some fun and unique aspects to it. My only question is, was it really necessary to make it another fishing game? I have to admit; I’m getting a little bit bored with this theme by now. I’d still give this one a try, but I can imagine I am not the only player starting to feel a tad bemused by the obsession with fishing!
