The theme of the game is the same as the original version that we first saw back in the 2000s, but with a lot more paylines of course! It is somewhat of a chance to reminisce seeing this slot in action, as it doesn’t seem 5 minutes ago that the original section 16 of Reel king was doing the rounds with its £500 jackpot.
Heading over to the paytable we see the lower value symbols comprise of the cherry, plum, melon, 9, 10, and Jack. Pays ranging from 0.1x up to 1.75x will be awarded when winning combos are formed through them. The higher value symbols on the slot are the queen, king, ace, and jackpot, where a 6 of a kind win will pay you 2x, 2x, 7.5x, and 50x respectively.

The base game on Reel King Megaways™ features the legendary dings that can sound when a reel stops in place after spinning. It’s worth mentioning that the reels can only ding when this process starts from reel 1. This is a really important part of your gameplay, as the dings that sound can help you to trigger the bonus feature on the game.
If you look to the left hand side of the reels, you will see that there is a reel king meter. The first 5 positions are arrows, and then position 6 is occupied by Reel King, position 7 by Super King, and finally position 8 by Mega King.
Each ding that you successfully hit will move you one position up the reel king meter. So if you were to hit the full 6 reels of dings then you would immediately find yourself at the Reel King position. However this is not the only way that you can manoeuvre yourself up the meter.
Every time that you hit a winning connection and it causes the reels to cascade, it will also move you 1 position up the meter. So in theory you don’t need to hit any dings at all if you are able to get enough consecutive reel cascades, although generally a combination of dings and cascades is how the meter will be filled. Players should note that your progress on the meter during the base game will reset at the end of each spin.
Cascading Reels
We’ve become accustomed to seeing slots within the Megaways™ niche include the cascading reels mechanic, especially if they feature 117,649 paylines. Reel King Megaways™ as we have already mentioned falls into that particular payline category, so it’s little surprise to see the popular tumbling reels that first featured in Bonanza also play a significant part in this slot, but we’ll cover that in more detail shortly.
Those who are unfamiliar with cascading reels will be pleased to know that this feature gives you even more chances to win. When any winning combination is formed on the reels, the symbols that make up that win will then explode and be removed from the play field. New symbols will then drop down to replace them giving you additional opportunities to make winning connections.
Reel King Megaways Bonus Round
When you reach one of the 3 levels on the reel king meter you will trigger the first part of the bonus round. This will see a new feature entry meter appear at the top of the reels, and the level which you have entered on will determine what your requirements are to reach the free spins that are marked upon on it.
As well as the meter appearing you will also be awarded an amount between 1 – 6 of reel kings on the reels. It is these reel kings that can move you along the feature entry meter, as well as also awarding you cash wins.
To move along 1 position on the meter you will need all of the reels on an individual reel king to become lit. If at any time the reels on these reel kings do not become lit, or fail to produce a win, then they will die. - Level: Reel King – Between 1 & 2 reel kings will appear on the reels, you will need to move a minimum of 5 positions along the meter to trigger the free spins. A maximum of 15 spins can be won from this level.

Bonus Gamble
If you have managed to make it to a free spin amount on the meter, then you can either choose to collect that amount of free spins and the cash you have won, or you can gamble it on the pie gamble to try and win more free spins.

Along with Slotto, Reel King will always be a timeless classic for me when it comes to any type of slot machine. Slotto didn’t really go on to become a successful franchise like Reel King, but the excitement of all of the reel kings becoming active was what set it apart from the original games in that £500 jackpot series.
So what about the Megaways™ version then? I actually like this slot, some of it is to do with what I have just said and the memories I hold of the original, but there is a lot of action going on in the Megaways™ game, and that is ultimately what players are looking for when they play slots within the Megaways™ niche.
I did wonder if there would be a set jackpot of sorts that the reel kings could trigger, but it has to be appreciated that Megaways™ can be very volatile, and when games make the leap over to the this engine not all of the features we know and love from the original will work within it.
