Game Overview
There’s quite a bit of confusion surrounding the tale of the city of Atlantis – I’ve spoken to people in the past who firmly believe that it’s a place which once existed somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean, and even one, interesting fellow who thinks that aliens built it. I think he probably watched too much Stargate Atlantis. The truth, of course, is that Atlantis was a fictional island that somehow became a living legend after being briefly mentioned in Plato’s works Timaeus and Critias. The latest use of the legend comes courtesy of Blueprint Gaming, and it’s a slot machine titled Rise of Atlantis 2. The game doesn’t include paylines or payways, as it uses a scatter-pay payout mechanic instead. The RTP is between 96% and 96.03%, depending on if you choose to use the bonus buy or bonus bet options, whilst the jackpot is listed at €250,000 or 50,000x the total bet.
Despite this being a very modern online slot, Blueprint has taken it relatively easy regarding the feature set. There are rising multipliers that can appear between rounds, moving up one position per spin. There’s also a Poseidon’s Call feature capable of expanding the playfield to a maximum size of 6×8 and a free spin-based bonus round that offers between 12 and 20 spins depending on the number of triggering scatter symbols. Depending on your country or jurisdiction, you may also be blessed with options for a bonus bet and buy facility.
So, could Atlantis be real? Of course not; it’s just an imaginary place written about in an ancient storybook! Don’t worry though – just because it wasn’t a real place won’t make our free demo slot of Rise of Atlantis 2 any less fun to play! You can find it below:
Rise Of Atlantis 2 Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
The popularity of the Atlantis legend is so strong that there are already numerous existing online slots that feature Plato’s imagined island paradise. There’s Reelplay’s Atlantis Megaways, the original Rise of Atlantis (of course) by Blueprint, and even a somewhat unusual take on the theme in the form of BGaming’s Big Atlantis Frenzy. All of these games share a similar underwater aesthetic, and nearly all of them also include Poseidon as a character – this makes sense, as he also showed up in one of the original stories by Plato. However, I’d still doubt that Blueprint thought too deeply about these things when creating their game!
Poseidon is the most valuable symbol on the game’s reels, offering a payout of 50x the total bet when 12 or more of them show up simultaneously. In second place, a jewel-encrusted crown can get you up to 25x your stake back in winnings, whilst the golden trident offers 15x for 12 or more matching symbols. There are two further high pays, both represented by ancient objects lying in the sand at the bottom of the ocean, and these offer payouts of 12x or 10x, respectively. That just leaves the low pays, made from simple coloured shapes – the purples can pay up to 8x the total bet, whilst the reds, greens, and blues are worth 5x, 4x, or 2x, respectively.
The betting range is reasonably limited here, but not quite as much as some other recent Blueprint releases. There are minimum/maximum bets of €0.20 and €20.00 per spin respectively, and whilst there are only a total of 13 different bets available, that seems fine given the relatively limited bet spread.
Base Game & Modifiers
When you first begin to play Rise of Atlantis 2, the game utilises a six-reel layout with five rows per reel. This gives a total of 30 symbol positions, which already seems like a decent number given that the top prizes only require 12 matching symbols to receive. Once the Poseidon’s Call modifier kicks in though, the grid can grow with three additional rows – that’s 18 extra symbol positions or enough slots for four maximum simultaneous symbol wins!
Rising Multipliers
These bubble-like symbol surrounds can appear during any spin and appear anywhere on the playfield. The lower they are, the better it is for you – especially if the multiplier stated inside the bubble is large! This is because rising multipliers stay on the reels between spins, ascending by one position with each passing game round.
Poseidon’s Call
After any spin that results in a win, there is a chance that Poseidon will add an extra row of symbols to the playfield. If another win occurs on the expanded grid, Poseidon may choose to repeat the process by adding another row – this can even happen a third time, creating a maximum grid size of 6×8 symbols.
Bonus Bet
Enabling the bonus bet costs you an extra 25% on top of the normal cost of each spin in return for enhanced odds of triggering the bonus round. Just how much better the odds are is not specified, but we know that the RTP increases slightly to 96.03% when using this option.
Rise Of Atlantis 2 Slot Bonus Features
The main bonus round is a free spin feature that awards spins according to the number of triggering scatter symbols. Three scatters will grant you just five free spins, whilst four, five, or six symbols up the count to 7, 10, or 15 free spins, respectively.
Free Spins
The bonus round plays out much like the base game, but as usual, there is one key difference – in this mode, the rising multipliers will increase in value each time they rise up the screen! Each multiplier bubble can be valued at up to 1,000x, and if more than one of them is visible at the end of a round, their values will be summed together before being applied to your win. Additionally, when the grid expands during the bonus round, it will remain at that size for the duration of the feature.
Bonus Buy
I was surprised to find three options on the bonus buy menu – the regular free spins can be purchased for 125x the current stake, whilst an ‘ultimate rise’ variant with enhanced multipliers will set you back a cool 375x your active bet. For those with the deepest pockets, 625x the current stake can buy you Poseidon’s Fury – this features the same enhanced multipliers but also gives you a maximum expanded grid right from the start.
Pros
- Fun scatter-pay gameplay, along with high-quality graphics and presentation.
- Three different bonus buy options provide some extra variety for those able to take advantage of them.
- The 1,000x limit of the multiplier bubbles makes it feel as if anything is possible when playing this slot!
Cons
- There’s no way you can hit the biggest prizes outside of the bonus round.
- The better bonus buy options are hideously expensive!
Rise of Atlantis 2 Slot Review Final Thoughts
There’s not much to complain about with Rise of Atlantis 2 – it upgrades the original game nicely with some well-suited additional features and a bonus round that offers significant enhancements over the regular base game. I’m pleased to see a return to form for Blueprint here, as the last game of theirs that I played was… well, let’s just say it wasn’t anywhere near the quality of this one!
