Rise Of Olympus SlotRise Of Olympus SlotSlot Demo & Review

One of the most exciting developments in online slots over the last decade must be the grid slot – a genre for which Play’N’Go is undoubtedly one of the most talented developers. Although Rise of Olympus isn’t a full-on grid slot, the machine takes inspiration from those games and traditional video slots, resulting in a fascinating hybrid. There are no paylines or payways, as wins are awarded for any combination of three or more adjacent matching symbols anywhere on the playfield. The RTP is a little above average at 96.50%, whilst the maximum win is capped at 5,000x the current bet.

The base game includes three modifiers which are available on rotation, according to which of the three gods is currently displayed on the left of the reel set. Better yet, scoring a win which includes all three of the god’s symbols will award the “Wrath of Olympus” feature, whereby all three modifiers are awarded one after the other! You’ll need them, too, as the only way to activate the free spin bonus round is to clear the entire playfield of symbols, which would be virtually impossible without the assistance of all three gods.

Are you a fan of grid slots? Or do you prefer classic video slots? The beauty of this machine is that either way, you should still enjoy what Play’N’Go has created here! Check out our free demo slot of Rise of Olympus below, and see for yourself.

I’m not entirely sure which was the first game to use the hybrid mechanics featured in Rise of Olympus. Play’N’Go’s Golden Ticket games use an almost identical setup, for example, as does their Moon Princess slot machine. There are some subtle differences between each of these games, but in many ways, they are effectively re-skins to suit different target audiences. Let’s not forget about Rise of Olympus 100 too, which is something of an evolution of the ideas and concept presented here. I feel it’s only fair to mention Blueprint’s excellent Gods of Olympus Megaways as well, but I genuinely can’t decide which is my favourite Olympus-themed online slot!

The wild is the highest-paying symbol offered in Rise of Olympus, with a return of 50x your bet for a horizontal or vertical line of five-of-a-kind. Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades all share the second-place spot, but their payout of just 10x your bet seems a little underwhelming compared to the wilds! You can also mix and match the three gods – any set of five non-matching symbols will still pay you 5x your bet. The lower-paying half of the paytable is made up of the gods’ crests – a trident for Poseidon, for example – and these have payouts ranging from 2x to 3x your bet for all five symbols.

The minimum bet available in Rise of Olympus is €0.20 per spin, whilst those with larger bankrolls can opt to stake up to €100.00 on each round if they wish. One thing is for certain here, though, there’s a wide enough range of bets for all players to find something that suits their particular playing style.

Base Game & Modifiers

Rise Of Olympus Slot Base Game
Rise of Olympus slot base game

Rise of Olympus utilises a 5×5 playfield, which is reasonably large by video slot standards yet tiny compared to most grid slots. The game does not use traditional paylines or payways, so any set of three or more matching symbols appearing on adjacent positions (horizontally or vertically) will award a win. You don’t need your line to start from the left or right – three symbols in the middle of the screen will do just fine!

Whenever a winning combination forms, the symbols will immediately disappear and be replaced by a wild symbol. If you are lucky, that new wild symbol will help to form another winning combination, and the process will repeat.

There are three modifiers which can occur on any non-winning spin:

  • Zeus Modifier: Two sets of symbols will be removed from the playfield.
  • Hades Modifier: One set of symbols will be chosen from the paytable to be upgraded to another, better-paying symbol.
  • Poseidon Modifier: One or two wild symbols will be added to the playfield in random positions

Rise Of Olympus Slot Bonus Features

Rise Of Olympus Slot Free Spins Feature

There are no traditional scatter symbols available in Rise of Olympus, as the free spin bonus round is triggered by clearing the entire playfield instead. This is very difficult to achieve in regular gameplay, but if you score a win that includes all three of the gods’ symbols, you will get a helping hand from the Wrath of Olympus feature.

Wrath Of Olympus

Keep an eye on the meter shown to the left of the playfield – it has three sections, one for each of the three gods. Filling the meter will cause the playfield to be re-filled from scratch, after which the three gods will take turns activating their modifiers. This is by far the easiest way to trigger the free spins feature.

Free Spins

There are three different free spin modes available, one for each of the gods. The option chosen will determine how many free spins you will receive and which modifier will be available during your bonus round. The selected god will apply their modifier to every non-winning spin for the duration of the feature.

Hades awards four free spins and is the most volatile option of the three, followed by Poseidon with five spins and then the lower-risk Zeus with eight. Filling the charge meter during this mode will add two free spins to your remaining counter.

Rise Of Olympus Slot Review Final Thoughts

I’m not exactly sure what it is about this machine that really appeals to me, but I seriously can’t stop playing it once I get started! If you are looking for something a little bit different to try, then you can’t go wrong with Rise of Olympus – especially if you enjoy grid slots.
