Game Overview

The legend of Robin Hood never seems to get old with those who create popular culture. The outlaw from Nottingham, England, has been the star of countless movies and video games over the years and has more than his fair share of high-quality online slot machines. The heroes latest outing comes courtesy of Just for the Win, a relatively small yet competent creator of first-tier slots with a reputation for high variance, risky-yet-rewarding gambling experiences. Robin Hood’s Heroes has a maximum jackpot of 5,000x your bet, up to 10,000 pay ways, and a 96.05% RTP.

As for the feature set, there are special money symbols on reels two through five, which work in conjunction with the cash grab feature to award big jackpot prizes. A separate cash collect feature appears in the base game only with the potential to gather up any money symbols that are currently in view for a smaller payout. The main cash grab feature is a three-spin affair, whilst splitting wild symbols can increase the number of pay ways in all game modes. If that wasn’t enough, Just for the Win has also added a typical free spins bonus and a bonus buy facility, so you will be playing for some time before you have seen everything this game has to offer!

If you are already done reading about the game and want to give it a spin yourself, be our guest! You’ll find the free demo slot of Robin Hoods Heroes directly below, which you can enjoy on your desktop, tablet, and mobile.

Paytable For Robin Hood's Heroes Slot

So just who was Robin Hood? The legendary outlaw was first depicted in English folklore and literature in the 15th century. He was described as having lived in the late 13th century, devoting his life to stealing from the rich to give to the poor. Several other outlaws are regularly named alongside Robin Hood, often called his “Merry Men”, whilst the main opponent in his quest to narrow the gulf between rich and poor was the Sheriff of Nottingham. The history of Robin Hood has now been debated for over a century, with some believing the outlaw to be nothing more than a fairy tale whilst others are certain that he both existed and behaved with honour and nobility. It’s a debate that will likely never be settled, as the existing ballads, literature, and stories are all we have to confirm or deny the tale either way.

The unusual playfield layout with six reels of varying heights leads to a possible 10,000 pay ways before the wild split feature is taken into account, potentially increasing this figure even further. It doesn’t make much difference if the maximum number of pay ways is 10,000 or 15,000 – the paytable numbers will always be small compared to a ten or 15 pay line game. Robin sits at the top of the pay table and only pays 5x your bet for six-of-a-kind, which gives you an idea of the payouts you can expect from this slot. Maid Marian is next with a return of 2.5x your bet, followed by Friar Tuck at 2x and Robin’s hat at 1.5x. There are two more “high-paying” symbols with payouts of 1x and 0.8x your stake, after which you have the typical playing card suits filling out the low-paying half of the table.

There are just ten options for selecting your bet size, which doesn’t seem nearly enough considering that the minimum bet is €0.20 whilst the maximum is 250x higher at €50.00 per spin. There doesn’t seem to be any apparent reason to limit the options available to players so severely, and I can see many players being unhappy with the limited choices available.

Base Game & Modifiers

Win Up To 5,000x Your Bet Across 10,000 Paylines In Robin Hood's Heroes Online Slot From Provider Just For The Win

Many online slots keep their most unique and interesting elements back for the bonus rounds, but Robin Hoods Heroes is slightly different. The game throws its unusual playfield at you immediately upon loading the machine; it’s a six-reel design with four positions on the first and last reels, plus five positions on reels two through five. Multiplying these counts together gives a total of 10,000 pay ways in the default configuration, but the game also includes a wild split feature that can potentially boost that number even further.

Money Symbol

These special gold coin symbols appear on reels two through five in the base game and also show up during the cash grab feature. The money symbol does not have any value on its own, so it requires the cash collect or cash grab features to be active for a prize to be awarded.

Cash Collect Feature

This bonus mode can only trigger during the base game and activates randomly when three to five money symbols land anywhere on the reels. It can be extremely frustrating if you catch lots of high value money symbols and the cash collect bonus does not trigger, but when it does, it can be an extremely valuable part of the game.

Wild Split Feature

The wild split symbol is similar to the regular wild but has a red outline around its edges. These symbols only appear on reels two through five and will split the position they stop at into two to five regular wild symbols. The new positions increase the number of active payways, potentially leading to much larger wins.

Trigger Two Bonus Features Whilst Playing Robin Hood's Heroes Video Slot

With so much going on in the base game there are lots of developers who would omit including a free spin feature – not so with Just for the Win, it seems, as their Robin Hoods Heroes online slot includes several more special modes and features.

Scatter symbols appear on reels two through five only and landing three of these will award between 7-15 free spins whilst all four will grant you 10-20 free spins. More on that later though, let’s rewind a little first as there is yet another bonus mode to discuss.

Cash Grab Feature

The cash grab feature will be triggered when six or more money symbols land during the base game. This is a three-spin feature, meaning that you begin with three spins on your counter and need to land at least one more symbol on each spin to reset the counter back to three.

At the start of the cash grab feature, your money symbols will become sticky and lock in place, after which the three high-paying character symbols are transformed into doubler, collector, and adder feature symbols. This mode feels a lot like the money cart feature in the massively popular Money Train series of online slots; you need to collect special symbols to boost your final payout whilst always ensuring that you don’t run out of free spins.

Free Spins Feature

It’s a rare occurrence when the free spins part of the game is nearly an afterthought, but that feels like the case here when trying out the Robin Hoods Heroes slot game. I’m sure it was nothing more than the luck of the draw, but I never hit this particular feature while testing this slot – I had to use the bonus buy feature to get a look at it!

Even after you do hit the scatter symbols, there is still an element of luck to this part of the game, as a bonus wheel will determine if you receive 7 to 15 free spins for a three-scatter trigger or 10 to 20 free spins when the feature results from the maximum of four scatters.

During the free spins feature, you will find all wilds have been replaced by wild split symbols, theoretically making this part of the game much more profitable than the base game. You can also re-trigger the feature by hitting 2, 3, or 4 scatters for an extra 2, 4, or 7 free spins, respectively. It all sounds great, but my results were far better in the cash grab feature than in this one. Your mileage may vary, as they say, but for my money, I’d definitely choose the other bonus rounds!

Bonus Buy Feature

For those players who are lucky enough to live in a country that doesn’t interfere with its citizen’s right to gamble with their hard-earned money, you can skip the regular base game parts of Robin Hoods Heroes and fast forward straight to the special features for a bumper-sized fee.

Three options are available – 209x the normal stake gets you advance entry to the Cash Grab feature with all four heroes activated, whilst 119x the regular cost will get you a Cash Grab with two of the four heroes in play. You can also opt to begin the feature without any heroes for 53x the normal wager, but I feel as if you probably shouldn’t skimp on this purchase if you are going to try it.

Predictably my results were much better when trying the most expensive option, but after doing some math, I realised that both the 119x and 209x options worked out roughly equal, whilst the lowest tier didn’t go very well for me at all. Of course, you could have different results, but I recommend skipping this feature’s bottom tier.

Robin Hood’s Heroes Slot Review Final Thoughts

There is so much to the Robin Hoods Heroes video slot that you’ll need to spend an entire evening spinning its reels to see everything it offers. The features aren’t particularly unique or innovative, but you rarely see so many of them incorporated into a single machine. This game deserves to be a hit for Just for the Win – track it down and give it a spin!
