Scroll Of Seth Slot (Play'n Go) Slot Demo & Review

My first thought upon loading up Play’N’Go’s Scroll of Seth online slot was – “Wasn’t his name Sett?”. I have no idea where I remembered the fact from, but sure enough, searching Wikipedia throws up an article where he is known as Set or Sutekh, with Seth being a Greek translation. It’s worth taking a look at that article if only to see the depiction of Seth on the right – so that’s who the weird crow head guy is meant to be! Let’s get back on topic though – this is a 50-line slot that offers a maximum jackpot payout of 5,000x the player’s stake. As with most Play’N’Go slots, the RTP on this one is casino-selectable, so it’s worth checking that your favourite casino is running the game at its default 96% setting.

Play’N’Go often sticks to a fairly standard formula for their games – the developer seems to favour a traditional 5×3 reel setup, for example and doesn’t tend to bother with bonus buy facilities or bonus bets. What you do get here is a scroll scatter that only appears on reel three but will transform up to three reels into full stacks of wilds when it does. During the bonus round, the scroll gains a second ‘tier’, which allows it to reward you with multiplier wilds and additional free spins. You can win up to 15 free spins initially, but re-triggers allow you to boost this to a maximum of 50 if luck is on your side.

I’ve had a lot of fun playing previous Egypt-themed games from Play’N’Go, so I feel it’s got to be worth giving our free demo slot of Scroll of Seth a try – you can find it available to play below.

Behind sweets/candy and fruits, Egypt has to be one of the most popular themes used by online slots. We have a huge selection of these games in our review library, including several by Play’N’Go. Aside from Doom of Egypt, Legacy of Dead and its predecessor Legacy of Egypt, are some of my personal favourites. Scroll of Seth looks quite similar to those previous efforts – the feature set is markedly different, but it is still relatively basic by modern standards. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though – not everybody enjoys overly complicated slots!

The highest-paying symbols available in Scroll of Seth are its two wilds; the normal wild can land in stacks on reels two and four, whilst the higher-paying advanced wilds can only be hit via the wild reel and scroll scatter. The payouts for the two symbols are 6x and 30x the total bet, respectively. As for the regular symbols, those pay much less – there are five ‘high-paying’ symbols represented by animals, but the payouts for these only range between 0.6x and 1.6x the total bet. As for the low pays, it’s pretty apparent that you shouldn’t expect much there either – five aces will get you half your bet back in winnings, whilst the jacks and tens share the lowest paid spot at just 0.3x for a five-of-a-kind combination. I guess the large number of paylines and ability to hit stacks of wilds on every reel must account for the low numbers shown here, but it’s still a tad disappointing.

As for the betting range, an adequately widespread is available with minimum/maximum permitted bets of €0.10 and €100.00 per spin, respectively. There’s also Play’N’Go’s usual quick bet selection bar, providing instant access to five different bet amounts without needing to navigate any additional menus.

Base Game & Modifiers

Scroll Of Seth Slot Base Game

After Scroll of Seth has finished loading, you’ll be presented with a five-column reel set with three rows and 50 fixed paylines. There’s also an additional reel along the top of the playfield, which is greyed out until the scroll scatter activates it. As with most online slots, you’ll need to hit at least three symbols starting from the left to score yourself a prize. Wins are much more common than usual in this game, however, due to the increased number of pay lines.

Scroll Scatter & Wild Reel

The scroll scatter is a special symbol that is only present on the third reel. Whenever this lands, it will trigger the wild reel, displayed along the top of the regular symbols. The wild reel has two tiers – one for the base game and an enhanced tier that is only active during the bonus round.

During base gameplay, between one and three enhanced wilds can land on the horizontal reel. All symbols underneath an enhanced wild will be transformed into stacks of regular wilds – if you are lucky, you may even be able to land wilds on reels one, three, and five at the same time as the normal stacked wilds which are present only on reels two and four – a full screen will pay you the games top prize of 5,000x the total bet.

Scroll Of Seth Slot Bonus Features

Scroll Of Seth Slot Free Spins Feature

The scatters used in Scroll of Seth feature the Ankh symbol – you’ll need at least three of them to win yourself a set of free spins, with eight being awarded for the minimum of three scatter symbols. If four or five scatter symbols land simultaneously, you’ll be treated to 11 or 15 free spins, respectively.

Free Spins

The big difference between this mode and the base game is that a second tier on the wild reel can activate when the scroll scatter lands on reel three. The wilds in this mode can have multipliers of 2x, 4x, or 11x attached to them, whilst the Ankh scatter now awards two or four additional free spins before transforming into a wild itself.

Pros

  • Lots of pay lines mean that wins are frequent.
  • The ability to hit a full screen of wilds for an instant jackpot is always nice to see!
  • Multiplier wilds during free spins boost the value of wins significantly.

Cons

  • The regular payline prizes are undeniably disappointing, even for a 50 payline game.
  • The jackpot of 5,000x is only average by today’s standards.
  • No bonus buy facility, irrespective of where you are located.

Final Thoughts

Whilst Scroll of Seth is a well-presented game, it’s not very exciting – I much preferred Play’N’Go’s previous Egypt-inspired games, such as Legacy of Egypt. That title also offered a much bigger jackpot and a better bonus round, so it’s clear that the developer could have made a bigger effort with this release.
