You may have recently seen the Jeffery Dahmer series on Netflix, or the 2019 movie, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, which was the story of Ted Bundy. All this gore and fascination has led to iGaming studio Nolimit City creating their very own game titled, Serial, with the lead character, The Bodycam Butcher, taking centre stage as he stalks and hunts for victims. We all know by know that Nolimit City stacks the majority of their slots with features, so there’s just going to be too much to mention here, but we’ll cover the main bits, though. Serial Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
If you tuned into the crime channel or spent time scanning documentaries, you’ll know that every country has had its fair share of serial killers. Mostly, we just get to see and hear about those that live or lived in America, and some of these men and occasionally women can only be considered pure evil. We mentioned Dahmer and Bundy earlier, but the list is endless, with more well known killers like John Wayne Gacy, Harold Shipman, the Yorkshire Ripper and Dennis Rader regularly getting airtime. Usually, I’d direct you to a couple of other games in the same niche as Nolimit’s Serial at this point, but the game is so unique that there is nothing else remotely like it out there on the market. As we are more than aware, Nolimit City is prepared to use themes and go to places no other game developer currently considers.
Let’s move on to the pays then, and perhaps unsurprisingly, the highest value symbol on the paytable is The Bodycam Butcher himself, paying 5x for a five of a kind win. Next up is the lead detective, who is worth 3x for a full payline, then we have a doctor at 2.5x for all five, followed by the victim at 1.5x, and completing the premium pays is the human remains, that will pay 1x if all five appear on a payline. The lower value symbols come in the form of the butcher hook, chainsaw chain, gloves, shovel, and finally, the hardhat, with each of these paying 0.9x, 0.8x, 0.7x, 0.6x, and 0.5x, respectively, for a five of a kind win. The standard wild symbol in the slot is the gas canister, with this substituting for all regular game symbols.

The standard gameplay on Serial is set on a 5×3 reel format with an initial 243 paylines in play. This configuration will increase each time a winning combo lands, as we will find out about in the next section of the review. Creating those wins will require you to land a minimum of three matching symbols from left to right, and of course, they will need to be on an active payline.
Respin Feature
Every time a win is formed, the symbols from that win will lock in place, and a free respin will be awarded. The respins will continue for as long as winning symbols land on the reels. Furthermore, each new respin will unlock an enhancer cell at the top and bottom of the reel set, giving you additional chances to win and land special symbols that can increase your winnings further.
Enhancer Cells
As we just mentioned, not only does unlocking the enhancer cells in the base game potentially give you a 5x6x6x6x5 reel set to play on and more chances to win. You also have the possibility of any of the following symbols appearing in them.
- Wild: Regular wild symbols.
- xNudge Wild: This will nudge into full view, increasing its multiplier value by x1 with each nudge.
- xWays: Reveals between 2 – 4 matching symbols from the paytable. If more than one hits, they will both reveal the same symbols.
- Character Symbols: The premium paying symbols can appear.
- Infectious xWays: Only present on reel five and will split into 2 – 4 matching symbols. All symbols that match on the main 5×3 reel set will also split.
Xsplit Wild
A very special symbol to keep a look out for is the xSplit Wild, which can only appear on reel 5. This acts as a x2 wild, and when it lands, it will saw its way across to the left, splitting every symbol into two that it encounters. Furthermore, it will double the values of all other special symbols. This is particularly impressive if you have an xNudge symbol in play.
Serial Slot Bonus Features
There are two free spin features that can be triggered on Serial. The first of these is ” The Search ” free spins, triggered when three scatter symbols land in view. Each scatter will have a number attached to it, with these being added together to produce your starting spin total.
The enhanced feature titled ” The Kill ” is trigged when three scatters appear in view and the xSplit Wild symbol also lands on reel five. The Kill Free Spins
The enhanced feature plays out pretty much the same way as The Search free spins. However, there is one significant difference. On each spin, the xSpilt Wild will move into one of three random positions on reel five. Nolimit City has raised the stakes with the inclusion of the xBizzare feature. Serial Slot Review Final Thoughts
I was intrigued to see what Nolimit City had done with this theme, as it is entirely original, so a blank canvas, if you will. Of course, the game has some of the best artwork and sound effects you will find from any iGaming studio; that is just a given now from this provider, but what about the gameplay itself?
There are features and modifiers galore that help to keep the entertainment levels high, and what I really like about an online slot is when you can hit the max win or something huge in the base game, which Serial offers, so that was great to see. As for the main bonus features, I had varied success with my small sample size and played most of the bonus rounds on the enhanced feature. One thing that I did find slightly annoying was that on the dead spins ( of which I had a fair few ), the saw continues to make its way across from reel five, which is pretty much pointless, and after 30+ bonus buys and lots of dead spins, does begin to grate on a bit.
