Game Overview
Irish-themed slots have been a huge thing ever since the original Rainbow Riches game, but whilst some developers seem content with creating simple clones of Barcrest and IGT’s smash-hit franchise, Play’N’Go has come up with something much more original with their new Shamrock Miner online slot. This is a 12 pay line game as standard, but a playfield expansion feature can add five more pay lines up to three times for a total of 27 maximum pay lines. The RTP is not stated in the help files for the current version of the game, but the maximum win of 5,000x your bet is. Play’N’Go usually offers casinos several RTP options anyway, so if you are playing this game for real money, be sure to check what RTP the game is running at your favourite online casino.
The game features a cash symbol that works similarly to the cash symbols in games such as Fishin’ Frenzy – you’ll need to land a wild symbol at the same time as one or more cash symbols to collect the prizes shown, otherwise, they are nothing more than decoration. The free spin bonus round awards between 10 and 20 free spins depending on the number of triggering scatters and also adds multiplier wilds into the mix, which can significantly boost the value of any cash symbols visible on the reels.
If you are as big of a fan of Play’N’Go slots as I am, then I expect you are eager to give this game a try for yourself. If that’s the case, I have good news – our free demo slot of Shamrock Miner is available right here!
Shamrock Miner Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
So just what is a shamrock anyway? Well, Wikipedia defines it as a “young sprig”, which is one of the most common symbols of the country of Ireland. The patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick, is said to have used the Shamrock as a metaphor for the Christian Holy Trinity. Oh, and don’t think that the rock is a sham – the name comes from the Irish word seamrog, a diminutive of the Irish word seamair, and simply means “young clover”. All this considered, I feel slightly confused about the concept of going mining for these things, but alas, I doubt Play’N’Go expected anybody to think about this in such depth. I guess they weren’t banking on demoslot.com, were they?
There are four “high-paying” symbols on the paytable, starting with a red gemstone that will pay you a fairly exceptional 200x the current bet for a full payline of five-of-a-kind – I have to say that is a pretty impressive return for a base game combination, and suggests that a great deal of this games RTP has been allocated to the base game. The green gemstone is also worth a nice amount at 100x your bet for all five, whilst the purple and yellow stones each have a return of 50x for five-of-a-kind. Five royal symbols occupy the lower half of the paytable, all of which will pay you just 10x your bet for a full pay line. Still, I’ve seen games where the highest-paying symbol only returns 10x the current stake, so these aren’t terrible returns, either. Nice work on the paytable, Play’N’Go!
The unusual twelve pay line setup leads to an equally unusual wager selection process – the minimum bet is €0.12 per round, while the maximum stands at €60.00. Play’N’Go has ditched its usual scrolling quick-bet selection interface for this game, so you’ll need to use the two up and down arrow symbols to control your current bet instead.
Base Game & Modifiers
There isn’t much to the base game, except for those huge wins on the paytable, of course! It’s a five-by-four reel set, which is larger than average, but with only 12 paylines, I can understand how Play’N’Go was able to allocate such huge prizes to the five-of-a-kind wins in this part of the game. There are many features to look forward to, including an expansion feature, but none are available until you make it to the bonus round; with that in mind, let’s skip right ahead to that most important part of Shamrock Miner!
Shamrock Miner Slot Free Spins Feature
Three bonus scatter symbols will award ten free spins, while four and five scatters will award 15 or 20 free spins respectively. The free spin bonus round has numerous benefits over the base game, too, so it’s a shame there isn’t a bonus buy feature to allow you to skip straight to this part of the game.
The cash symbols that appear in the base game will show up even more frequently during the bonus round, but there’s an added twist here – the wild symbols that land during free spins can also have a multiplier attached to them which will multiply the value of all cash symbols that are collected.
Each time a wild lands, it will be stored in a cart, with bonus modifiers triggered for every four wilds you collect. To enable all of the special features of the free spins bonus round, you will need to fill 12 carts, which seems like a tough ask – I didn’t manage to fill more than four carts during my game testing.
The features which can be added include ten more additional free spins, an increasing random multiplier up to a maximum of 30x, and a reel expansion feature. The latter will increase the grid size first to 5×5, then 5×6, and finally 5×7. Each step up will add five additional pay lines too, which means you can potentially have 27 active pay lines during the free spins feature along with a 30x multiplier… that 5,000x jackpot doesn’t feel so out of reach, considering those numbers!
Shamrock Miner Slot Review Final Thoughts
Shamrock Miner feels a little unusual for a Play’N’Go slot – the user interface is different, there are no base game modifiers, and even the bonus round just doesn’t quite feel “Play’N’Go” to me. Nevertheless, I had a lot of fun playing this game but didn’t have a lot of luck in terms of my winnings. Of course, your mileage may vary, and I would still recommend this game to all slot fans.
