Alarm bells started ringing for me once I started looking through the help pages and prize details of Shining Hot 100; it appears that there are no special features or modifiers in this game whatsoever. If I were to try and list every online slot machine with a fruit machine theme or style, then I would almost certainly never reach the end; by the time I had finished compiling the list, you can be sure I would have at least a dozen more titles to insert into my listing. The exact process could then continue almost indefinitely. Okay, it may not be quite as extreme as that, but it sure is close – there are several hundred online slots that would be virtually indistinguishable from this one if you only looked at the reel strips. The bottom line here is that there is no way you are going to pick out a game such as Shining Hot 100 online slot because you enjoy playing slots with a fruit-based theme; this is the type of game that people would only ever choose because they enjoy the setup, the payout mechanics, or some other aspect of the way the game operates. The presentation of any online slot can be ignored mainly if it offers exciting gameplay and many ways to hit a massive win, so the question has to be, can Shining Hot 100 hold its own in terms of its gameplay?

Let’s start with the paytable – the biggest prize on the board is awarded by the Scatter Bells, which have a chunky return of 500x your stake if you hit all five of them. That’s awesome, of course, but things begin to taper off quickly after this one major prize; the Wild takes second place with a return of just 25x for a full line of five-of-a-kind, followed by the Apple at 12x. The bottom drops out entirely after this – the next two symbols pay just 2.3x, followed by three more, which pay a depressingly low 1.1x for an entire pay line. All of these symbols do at least appear in stacks, so it is theoretically possible to hit a full screen of one symbol should you get fortunate. I did get close to a full screen of the lower-paying symbols a handful of times whilst I was testing the game, and with 100 paylines to win on the returns could reach a level worth getting excited about.

When I looked at the available bet sizing options, the game threw me another curveball – the minimum bet is a full €1.00 per spin, which is far too high a cost for anybody who calls themselves a low roller. The maximum bet of €100.00 per spin is unlikely to upset the high-rolling crowd, but this is a low variance online slot – what was Pragmatic Play thinking?

Base Game & Modifiers

The base game of Shining Hot 100 uses a slightly enlarged 5×4 playfield. Whilst 100 pay lines is undoubtedly a high number compared to other games with a reel set of this size, it falls far short of the maximum 1,024 possible ways to cross a 5×4 grid. For that reason, you may find that some combinations you assumed would be a winner turn out not to be, despite the higher than average pay line count.

Winnings are awarded for hitting three or matching symbols on any pay lines from left to right, except for the scatter bells that pay as long as they are visible on the screen. Five scatters represent the jackpot in Shining Hot 100 and are the only thing you can hope for every time you hit spin.

A full screen of wilds is theoretically possible, so I listed the maximum jackpot as being 2,500x your bet in the first paragraph. Realistically, however, the 500x for five scatters will likely be a more achievable jackpot.

Shining Hot 100 Slot Review Final Thoughts

A classic online slot with 100 pay lines could be an interesting bridge between the old and the new, but there simply isn’t enough to keep players interested for more than a few minutes. Just a single bonus round would have gone a long way towards breaking up the monotony of a base game-only slot; as it stands, I can’t recommend Shining Hot 100.
