Skate or Die (Nolimit City) Slot Demo & Review

‘Pain’ is the word I’d use to describe a couple of years in my youth when I used to skateboard, believing I was the next coming of Tony Hawk. At the time, the grazes, cuts, bruises, lost teeth, and even broken bones I experienced were the trophies or bragging rights I gained for merely attempting (and subsequently failing) the latest life-or-death skateboard trick. I eventually gave it all up after realising I was no good, and partly because my parents threatened to disown me unless I did. It’s the ‘Skate or Die‘ attitude of skateboarders that provides the title and theme of the latest highly anticipated slot from Nolimit City, a game that has a 5×3 reel configuration, 243 ways to win, a 96.03% RTP, and a 30,000x the stake maximum win.

The Skate or Die phrase is a good way to explain playing many of Nolimit City’s highly volatile slot games, as often, you’re either going to win big or go home empty-handed without anything to do but attempt to soothe the injuries sustained to your bankroll. A Crasher Game on the Skate or Die slot sums it up perfectly, as you’ll either win nothing or, if brave enough, up to the maximum win of 30,000x the stake. The slot also features a Multiplier row above the main reels, xWilds, xNudges, three free spins variations, and the abundance of booster bets and buy bonus options you’d expect from Nolimit City.

If you want to find out how exciting NLC’s latest slot is, you can access the free-to-play Skate or Die slot demo below, and whilst you’re at it, enjoy the rest of my ramblings in my full review of the game.

I doubt there are many of you newbies out there, as most semi-experienced online slot players will be familiar with Nolimit City and their crazily volatile slot games. However, if you are fresh to the provider, you’re in for a treat as the developer has so many fantastic slots on its books that are on par or even better than Skate or Die. There are far too many examples to list in full, but a couple of games with huge jackpots come in the form of Tombstone RIP, where 300,000x the bet can be won, and San Quentin, which offers a max reward of 150,000x.

So what are the symbol payouts you’ll be risking your cash for on Skate or Die? Well, the biggest is 30x the stake whenever the Crasher symbol lands. As you’ll find out, though, you’re not obliged to accept that win and can gamble it for up to 30,000x. As for the regular symbols, Chad, the main skateboarder and his appendages represent the premium symbols. His head is worth a top return of 4x the stake for a 5-symbol combo, while his Arm, Hands, and Legs pay up to 3x, 2x, and 1.5x, respectively. The Ace is the best of the low-value symbols with a 0.9x maximum return, the King is worth up to 0.8x, and the Queen can deliver returns of up to 0.7x. The Jack and Ten wrap things up with a maximum of 0.65x and 0.6x for winning combos of five.

Spinning the reels on Skate or Die can begin for as little as €0.20, whilst the max stake on the game can reach a high of €100.00. Real-money players shouldn’t have any issues finding a stake to play within this range, with plenty of options for both low and high rollers.

Skate or Die slot base game

Skate Or Die Slot base game

The reel format of Skate or Die is not as complex as you might expect from Nolimit City, with the slot containing a 5×3 configuration as standard, although there is an independent Extra Source Row above the main reels. Winning combinations form when three or more matching symbols appear on consecutive reels to the right, starting from the leftmost reel.

Extra Sauce Row

The extra row will land multipliers of 2x, 3x, 4x, or 10x, or nothing at all for the positions above each reel. Those multipliers only apply when the following xNudge or xZone wild symbols land on the reels below them.

All the wild symbols below will substitute for regular symbols when winning combinations are possible.

  • xZone Wilds: If these land when a multiplier value is visible on the Extra Sauce Row directly above, that value applies to all symbols directly adjacent to the wild in all directions. Any multipliers that overlap are added to each other.

  • xNudge Wilds: When these land, they will always nudge up or down until they are fully stacked on their reels. Each position they nudge increases their multiplier value by 1x. Multiple instances of this symbol have their multiplier values added to a total xNudge multiplier. Furthermore, if there is a multiplier value on the Extra Sauce row, those multipliers also apply.

  • xNudge Wild Supreme Symbols: Only available during the Boneyard Free Spins bonus game; this performs all the features of the regular xNudge Wild, but the symbol receives all multipliers visible across the Extra Sauce Row.

Skate or Die slot bonus features

Skate Or Die Slot
Skate Or Die Slot free spins feature

As with skateboarders, slots are judged on the tricks they can pull off, and the above are just some of what you can expect from Skate or Die. Below, you’ll learn about three variations of a free spins bonus game, a Crasher Game that could land you up to 30,000x the stake, and the slot’s Bonus Buy options.

Free Spins Bonus

Scatter symbols can appear in any position across the reels, and the number that lands on the same spin determines the variation of the bonus game you trigger. You receive 10 free spins for each of the following:

  • Face Plant Free Spins (3 Scatters): An xZone Wild is guaranteed to land on every spin.
  • Dead Meat Free Spins (4 Scatters): This feature guarantees at least two xZone Wilds on every spin.
  • Boneyard Free Spins (5 Scatters): At least three xZone Wilds will land on every spin, and the xNudge Wild Supreme can appear during this bonus.

Crasher Game

If the Crasher Symbol lands fully stacked across a reel in the base game, you receive a 30x the stake payout. You can keep or use that win as a bet in the Crasher Game. That also applies to any win of 30x or more you receive during play in the standard game.

Essentially a Crash-style bonus game, playing the Crasher Game will either return a payout of between 30x and 30,000x the stake – or nothing. You must collect a win before the skateboarder crashes to the ground, losing your original stake.

Bonus Buy

As for the buy bonus options, there are five to consider:

  • Crasher Game: Wager 30x the current stake for a chance to win up to 30,000x or nothing.
  • Face Plant Free Spins: 60x the stake.
  • Dead Meat Free Spins: 200x the stake.
  • Boneyard Free Spins: 1,000x the stake.
  • Lucky Draw Free Spins: 210x reveals one of the three free spins bonuses with odds of (50/40/10).

Pros

  • An entertaining theme packed with pain and humour.
  • A 30,000x max win is gnarly dude.

Cons

  • Not as feature-packed as other releases.

Skate or Die Slot Review Final Thoughts

The anticipation for the announcement of NLC slot games is like nothing seen before, and that will undoubtedly be the case once again for Skate or Die. It’s hardly surprising, though, considering the quality the developer consistently adds to their titles in terms of extremely volatile gameplay, winning potential, and out-of-the-box themes, which are displayed in abundance in this release.
