I would argue that Cleopatra was one of the very first Egyptian-themed online slots, and for a time, the game was hugely popular at both online and land-based casinos. The game did receive a full-on sequel called ‘Cleo II’ a long time ago, but I haven’t seen that machine available to play anywhere for quite some time now. A Megaways update has been heavily rumoured over the last couple of years, but as far as I’m aware, nothing has come of that yet – perhaps they got the details wrong, and it was this Slingo game that was being developed behind the scenes. Whatever the case, it’s surprising how well the game has held up considering its age – who could genuinely say that the slot included in Cleopatra Slingo looks almost two decades old?
There are two paytables to discuss within Cleopatra Slingo – the Slingo paytable and the slot paytable. The Slingo part is easy enough – every line you complete on your bingo card gets you some free spins on the Cleopatra slot. The numbers shown are cumulative – for example, three lines get you one spin, and four lines get you two spins; therefore, four lines actually get you three spins total. Completing your entire Slingo card will add a whopping 39 additional spins to your current total, which means that you can potentially score up to 90 free spins altogether.
As for the slot machine paytable, the Cleopatra logo is the most valuable symbol on offer, with a return of 500x your original buy-in for a full payline of five of a kind. The scarab and fan symbols will each get you 37.5x the total bet for all five symbols, followed by the gold bar at 20x. Each game consists of ten spins where numbers will land on the bottom row of the number grid in the middle of the screen. If any of the numbers match those shown on your Slingo card, they will be crossed off – just like a traditional bingo game. There are special symbols on the reels as well as numbers too, including two different types of wild that let you choose which number you would prefer to cross off at that time.
Completing a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line on your Slingo card will move you up the payout ladder shown to the left of the reels. The aim of the game is to hit as many lines as possible during your ten spins, although it’s also possible to purchase extra spins at the end of a round if you think you stand a good chance of completing some extra slingos. Slingo was always intended to be a crossover between slots and bingo, and Cleopatra Slingo performs that job perfectly. The only problem is that I preferred it when you could be certain how much you would win once your Slingo game was completed. Slot spins are no replacement for cold hard cash, so it would have been nice to see a cash alternative also offered on the prize ladder.
