Slingo Deadliest Catch (Slingo Originals) Slot Demo & Review

Is it shocking that I didn’t recognise the two men who appear on the introduction screen of Slingo Originals’ latest hybrid gambling game, Deadliest Catch? I’m not completely braindead (probably), but I knew they must be somewhat famous or well-known… wow, was I about to fall into a rabbit hole or what! Now that I’m all caught up on what counts as popular television these days, I should tell you more about Slingo’s adaptation of the Discovery Channel’s unusual take on “reality TV”. The game boasts a 95.74% RTP which is very similar to that offered by more standard online slots, whilst Slingo lists the jackpot as 500x the stake over at their website. It turns out that 500x is the top prize from a single turn, so bigger prizes can be won overall.

Most of us have probably tried a Slingo game already, as the slot/bingo hybrid format has been doing the rounds for a while now. It’s evident that Slingo themselves are fully aware of the risks posed by allowing the format to get stale, as several theme-specific bonus rounds have been included in Deadliest Catch. Labelled “crab fishing”, “crab hunt”, and “crab grab”, there are both regular and night versions of these three features, all of which can be significantly enhanced by collecting a large number of crabs in the base game. Making the most of these additions requires careful decision making – it’s the thinking mans Slingo, if you will!

Fans of the Slingo genre are sure to get a kick out of this one; even if you aren’t especially fond of fishing, the bonus games offered here make this one of the most interesting Slingo titles to be released in a while. You can try the game via our free demo slot of Deadliest Catch, available to play below.

Slingo Deadliest Catch Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

Slingo Deadliest Catch Theme
Slingo Deadliest Catch theme

I’ve ended up beginning to make fun of the fishing slot craze recently, not because there is anything wrong with fishing as a theme, but rather because of how insanely out of hand the whole thing has become! It seemingly all started with the Fishin’ Frenzy games, but such was that franchises explosion in popularity; it wasn’t long before the Big Bass Bonanza games began to appear with alarming frequency. And then it really started getting silly – Wild Marlin Big Game Fishing? Sounds legit. The Rodfather Megaways? Get it out there, my son. I refuse even to make a joke about just how fishy this genre might become because, at this point, there seems little chance that I could hope to challenge the reality!

Returning to objective mode now, the paytable offered by Deadliest Catch is anything but your typical Slingo. Only the lowest three prizes are offered in cash, with 0.5x, 1.5x, or 4x your total stake available for three, four, or five Slingos (completed lines), respectively. The remainder of the paytable consists of the daytime variants of Crab Grab, Crab Fishing, and Crab Hunt, awarded for six, seven, or eight Slingos, respectively, along with the night-time variants, which offer far larger prizes. In the bonus round section below, I will list the prizes available in each bonus mode individually.

The wager paid in Slingo buys you 11 spins in the base game, with additional spins usually being offered for purchase if you have failed to complete your card at the end of those 11 spins. You can opt to buy in for as little as €0.20 in this version, whilst the maximum bet per card is set at €25.00.

Base Game & Modifiers

Slingo Deadliest Catch Base Game
Slingo Deadliest Catch base game

I’m reasonably sure that all Slingo games follow one specific formula. The basics consist of a 5×5 number grid akin to a standard bingo card, along with 12 possible Slingo lines – the five horizontal rows, the five vertical columns, and the two diagonals. Your initial buy-in grants you 11 spins to complete as many lines as possible, after which you need to purchase additional free spins on a one-by-one basis if you wish to keep playing.

Bonus Crabs

Whenever a crab appears, it will be added to your bonus crab counter, which can seem a little frustrating at first – these crabs are removing one of your chances to cross a number off your card. Can’t they get out of here?! Not so fast though, as these crabs are essential if you want to increase the odds of winning a massive jackpot in one of the later bonus features.

Scatter Win

Scatter payouts are relatively unusual in Slingo games, and whilst the returns are not hugely impressive, it’s still nice to receive a reward for a combination that may have occurred anyway!

Three wild or super wild symbols will pay you 1x your total stake, whilst four return 3x, and five pay a very reasonable 50x your game bet.

Slingo Deadliest Catch Bonus Features

Slingo Deadliest Catch Bonus Round

Whilst most Slingo games see you trying your best to win the big cash jackpots, this game instead asks you to put your faith in the outcome of its six unique bonus rounds. The results could be even more impressive than those offered by other Slingo games, but you’ll need to collect a large number of crabs during the base game to obtain the best odds in any of these features.

Crab Hunt Bonus Feature (+ Night Fishing)

This mode awards seven picks as standard, with one additional pick for every crab collected up to a maximum of 19. Each pick guarantees a prize of between 1x and 20x your bet in the day mode or between 5x and 500x during night fishing.

Crab Fishing Bonus Feature (+ Night Fishing)

This bonus is a little less generous than the previous one, awarding five picks as standard plus one additional pick for each crab you have up to a maximum of 17. Your picks are worth between 0.1x and 2.5x your bet in the day mode or between 1x and 30x your bet when night fishing.

Crab Grab Bonus Feature (+ Night Fishing)

The final bonus of the bunch may look different to the previous two, but it’s more or less the same thing underneath. You receive four picks from the options displayed on the screen to start with, plus additional picks for any bonus crabs you have collected, and the prizes are worth between 1x – 25x in day mode or 5x – 100x at night.

Slingo Deadliest Catch Review Final Thoughts

This is an enjoyable Slingo variant, although it’s a shame that there isn’t much variation between the different bonus games. I’d still choose this game over the other Slingo games I have tried recently, but if you want to know exactly how much you are playing for, then the payout schedule offered here is unlikely to appeal.
