Game Overview

I get the same feeling when a new Slingo release lands in my ‘to review’ tray as I do when I play a Slingo game—‘this makes a nice change’. I just find these games more relaxing and easier to play, and they do not require much focus. For any of you wondering what a Slingo game is, it’s basically what you get when you cross video slots with bingo. You tick off numbers as they’re drawn, hopefully creating Slingos (marking off full lines of numbers) and potentially triggering bonus games. The latest of these to launch is Slingo River Reels from Gaming Realms, a fishing-themed Slingo title that has a

The aim of Slingo River Reels is primarily the same as most other Slingo games. Tick off your numbers, create at least four Slingos, and you’ll be paid. However, mark off all numbers, and you hit a full house, meaning you win 12 Slingos to the tune of 210x your stake. Furthermore, along the way, you might trigger a Fisherman’s Respins bonus that could collect the money symbols off the grid and even multiply them by up to 5x.

We’ve reviewed quite a few Slingo games now, and while they all follow a similar premise, there’s still quite a lot of diversity from one title to the next. For example, Tetris Slingo offers an exciting Tetris-style bonus game, while Slingo Hot Roll delivers extra rewards via the roll of some dice. I recommend you check out some other free Slingo games once you’re done with our review today, as Gaming Realms is quite clever at adding new twists to what is primarily a bingo game.

For the payouts on Slingo River Reels, you’ll need to complete a minimum of four Slingos to receive your stake back. That means you’ll need five to make a profit, as that pays 3x your stake. Your prize increases the more Slingos you complete, so 10 gives you 120x, and a full house gives you 210x.

The stakes you can choose from start at a minimum of €0.20 and go up to a maximum of €20.00. However, your bet will increase if you buy additional spins once your original 10 runs out, which, even on the smallest of stakes, can prove to be costly very quickly.

Slingo River Reels Base Game

Like most Slingo games, the action takes place on a 5×5 grid with 25 numbered positions. Once you’ve decided how much you want to play for, you’ll receive 10 spins of a 1×5 reel that reveals numbers, wild symbols, super wilds, or fisherman symbols.

As the numbers come out, they’re marked off the grid. When a full line is completed, that is a Slingo; you’ll need at least four to earn a payout. The more Slingo’s you complete, the more you win. On top of that, two types of wild symbols can appear, and when they do, you’ll have the power to pick a number yourself:

  • Wild Symbols: If a wild symbol spins in, you can mark any number on the reel above it.
  • Super Wild Symbols: These let you mark any number on the grid.

Once your spins are used up, you can collect your payout if you created enough Slingos or continue to spin to try and create more. However, as marked on the spin button, you’ll pay a price per spin. That price is determined by how many Slingos you’ve created and how many numbers you’ve filled. Be careful here, as that price can increase rapidly, so weigh whether an extra spin is worth it.

Slingo River Reels Bonus Features

When numbers are marked off, they reveal cash prizes between 0.1x to 5x your stake. However, you’ll not have a chance of winning those unless you trigger the Fisherman Respins bonus, as explained below.

Fisherman Respins

If you’ve achieved at least 4 Slingos, you trigger the Fisherman Respins feature whenever a fisherman symbol lands. You receive respins on a 5×3 reel that can reveal Boots (Blockers) or Fisherman. If a Fisherman lands, you receive another Respin, but if none show up, you lose a life, and if you have no lives left, the feature ends. You collect lives by completing Slingos in the main game; you get a life once you complete 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12.

The aim is to complete full stacks of the Fisherman symbol, and doing so rewards the following:

  • 1 Stack: Rewards the cash prizes as multipliers of your stake on the reel directly above.
  • 2 Stacks: Rewards the cash prizes as multipliers of your stake on the two reels directly above.
  • 3 Stacks: Rewards the cash prizes as multipliers of your stake on all the reels.
  • 4 Stacks: Rewards all the cash prizes multiplied by 3x.
  • 5 Stacks: Rewards all the cash prizes multiplied by 5x.

Pros

  • The Fisherman Respins bonus adds to the fun and could prove lucrative.

Cons

  • Costs to play additional spins can rise rapidly.
  • Below average RTP.

Slingo River Reels Slot Review Final Thoughts

The fishing theme has now pretty much been utilised by every major developer, so I guess it's been more of a surprise than anything that it took the guys over at Slingo HQ as long as it has to put their effort together. With so many slots now available to play in this niche, it's hard to get excited about any new releases, no matter who creates them, but as far as Slingo games go, this is another good addition to the growing portfolio of titles offered by Gaming Realms.
